I think this works because the director, David F Sandberg used to work on horror before this. Just like James Wan with Aquaman, both managed to use their horror skills perfectly to build up tension. By having a former horror director to make this scene, it really works beautifully for the darker roots

If this happened at LexCorp, Lex would simply laugh in Sivana's face before killing him and dispersing the Sins with one of his many anti-Superman contingencies.

I love how the two main characters are polar opposites at the end of the film. Basically, Sivana sees family as a tyrant. Seeing his childhood, you can really understand why he feels that way. Meanwhile, Billy (as the film progresses) sees family as a source of power.

It's scenes like this why I appreciate Shazam so much. They could have made the whole movie super family-friendly and silly but they made the villains a genuine threat with brutality and darkness. For each joke and goofy moment, they have scenes like this or when Billy's mom rejects him.
Thats also the SINS the BIBLE talks about which we should avoid. In Jesus Christ we can be saved from this, if you truly believe in him, repent from youre sins and accept him as your lord & savior. He died on the cross for our Sins. These creatures do really exist in hell. Heaven and hell are real. We have a God who loves us and don't want anyone to go to hell. Its our Choice if heaven or hell, its free will, which God gaves us.
Marvel fan here. This was an underrated movie and needs more love. Hoping DC brings out more quality films like this one. It's a shame that the lesser DC films got more hype and press than this entertaining gem of a movie.

Nice attention to detail.
The writing in this movie was great with attention to setups/payoffs. Would’ve liked to see more dynamic action but this movie was like 90M so it makes sense that it wouldn’t be like Aquaman or MoS/BvS

Can we take a moment to appreciate the talents of John Glover in this. His turn from pompously dismissive to 100 percent terrified. Plus getting a second turn at being the dad of a dc villian. I'm willing to bet when he set out to be an actor, he never imagined his typecast would wind up being the literal embodiment of daddy issues.
i love all of the little details, like when the sins are speaking it shows their personalities envy knows that there's someone more powerful and that infuriates him pride thinks he's above the sins and is standing apart from them and sivana, he also doesn't acknowledge shazam as a threat but instead justs acknowledges him only through the reputation of the wizard and wrath is the only one out of the three that makes a comment about wanting to kill billy another thing is how they foreshadow sivana's weakness, in 3:13 his eye is blank and all the sins are out but when most of the sins are re-absorbed in 4:13 his eye starts to glow the final thing i noticed is that sivana notices the add but only reacts when he hears 'our focus is family' when he hears this he becomes enraged because he knows the hypocrisy in the ad and it reminds him of how his family never paid attention to him
my dad made me bring my 6 yr old sister with me to this movie, i assumed it would be fine because it was just a superhero movie. then i had to cover her eyes during all the monster scenes cause she was freaking out
my favorite part of this scene is when Sivana gets in the elevator at the end the companies message of “pride and family” comes on and he shatters the screen cutting it off showing that he views the “family” values etc as a hypocritical or false stance

I really wanted the seven sins to have some more vibrant colors or at least different colored eyes so that it was easier to differentiate them. Like, Greed and Wrath and Lust... They were easy to tell. But Envy and Sloth and others.... Kinda hard.

Mark Strong is practically Gary Oldman-level dynamic in terms of friend or foe. He's exactly who you want want helping you in Kingsman, he's the perfect henchman in Rocknrolla, and then he turns on the straight up evil here.
This is the kind of villains i like. Those whose mere presence changes tge entire tone of the story into something darker. Those whose movies only have funny scenes when they aren't on screen. That's when you really feel their level of threat in my opinion.
I can understand Sivana taking out his dad and brother considering how they've treated him his whole life but did he have to take out the other board members? They did nothing to him.
Actually one of the weaknesses of superman is the magic that is the basis of the power of shazam as well as of Sivana so in my opinion it would have been something very even pulling in favor of Sivana
Doctor Sivana went from being your stereotypical mad scientist to a man disgusted by his weakness and so became the modern equivalent of the evil sorcerer archetype (which fits better with Shazam powers being made of magic).

That is an impeccable American accent from Mark Strong. It's even specific enough to suit the character. Also note that the director chose a female target for lust.

envy knows that there's someone more powerful and that infuriates him
pride thinks he's above the sins and is standing apart from them and sivana, he also doesn't acknowledge shazam as a threat but instead justs acknowledges him only through the reputation of the wizard
and wrath is the only one out of the three that makes a comment about wanting to kill billy
another thing is how they foreshadow sivana's weakness, in 3:13 his eye is blank and all the sins are out but when most of the sins are re-absorbed in 4:13 his eye starts to glow
the final thing i noticed is that sivana notices the add but only reacts when he hears 'our focus is family' when he hears this he becomes enraged because he knows the hypocrisy in the ad and it reminds him of how his family never paid attention to him

DC is actually not that dark. I'd say the only hero who fills the dark tone is Batman. The rest are bright and idealistic heroes. So yeah, DC is not all about that dark and gritty stuff.

What I loved about this scene was the reluctance of everyone to leave their chairs. Decorum.
I really wanted the seven sins to have some more vibrant colors or at least different colored eyes so that it was easier to differentiate them. Like, Greed and Wrath and Lust... They were easy to tell. But Envy and Sloth and others.... Kinda hard.

Wrath: A strong angry monster
Pride: devillish look with a stance of arrogance
Sloth: has a hunchback and walks on all 4 it seems
Greed: Extra arms for taking more and more
Gluttony: fat which shows how it hungers for more
Lust: the long tognue which do a lot of work when people have sex
And Envy: Not having any destingushing features showing how different it is to the other sins

Mark Strong is practically Gary Oldman-level dynamic in terms of friend or foe. He's exactly who you want want helping you in Kingsman, he's the perfect henchman in Rocknrolla, and then he turns on the straight up evil here.
This is the kind of villains i like. Those whose mere presence changes tge entire tone of the story into something darker. Those whose movies only have funny scenes when they aren't on screen. That's when you really feel their level of threat in my opinion.
I can understand Sivana taking out his dad and brother considering how they've treated him his whole life but did he have to take out the other board members? They did nothing to him.

I've learned that when people say a character is suave or charismatic, they usually mean fuckable (I'm pretty sure you don't mean that; it's just that I've noticed that there's a disturbing correlation I've noticed between characters people find physically attractive and people who they deem "charismatic). And I'm not going to say different, because really, why the hell would people listen to differences?
It makes my stomach seize when I imagine the kind of dull retreads people would create with Superman, especially when their ideal Lex Luthor is just "charismatic" or "suave" (That's like saying Steve Irwin was "Australian" as part of his personality.

Essentially, Superman would have no interiority, Lex would be "bootyful and misunderstood" and Lois would exist solely as a trophy for Superman to "win" in a series of B99-style hijinks bracketed with mass destruction that have no impact on even the immediate environment by the next movie.

Lex in the DC Animated Universe (which is where everyone and I mean *FUCKING EVERYONE* gets their version) is not suave or charismatic. He is a brutal heartless bastard who lives for the concept of "more" and is willing to shit on governments and people to get it.
