      Yes, that kid plays quite well - beautifully, actually. But there's nothing saying that you can't play every bit as well as he does, if you set your mind to it. I've heard YOU crank out some pretty awesome songs during practice, and the more you play, the better you'll get, especially with the extra lessons you're taking. :)

      Armando Eleazar this is a Concert in Mi minor (E minor), but this boy is not playing the full Concert, only the second and third movement.
      I am learning to play it too, I am 9th grade and I think that this is very soulful and emotional piece (Vivaldi is an amazing composer, all of his works make me motivated..) and this kid plays very well (Eh from 2009, now he is not a kid yet) Well done! :)

    • @garrisonbullard9655
      @garrisonbullard9655 7 років тому +11

      Locktwiste72 As a bassoon player I can tell you that while the double Reed and thumb work can be hard, learning the bassoon is much easier than people make it out to be. However, taking lessons from a teacher (one that actually plays bassoon, not your band or orchestra director) is essential, because the double Reed is so easy to learn wrong.

    • @soupmail
      @soupmail 7 років тому +5

      It was really easy for me. You just have to make sure you got good reeds (handmade are best) and have a no-playing-around basson teacher really helped. If you are in school get a private lesson teacher because the band teachers don't help as much.Private lessons can get expensive and so can reeds but that will make a difference.

    • @mpladykp
      @mpladykp 4 роки тому +3

      I agree with these guys, it's not hard to play or learn but the problem is that most teachers dont know how to play so you need to get private lessons. My music teacher has no Idea how to play the bassoon and doesn't even know the fingerings

    Beautiful work! It's also harder to play standing up (like most people do for a concerto) than it is sitting down like orchestral players do. The weight of the instrument is distributed very differently and if you haven't practiced a LOT in the new position, it can throw you off. Doesn't seem to here, though!

    I'm impressed of the level this kid is playing at, but let's think about this for a moment. How many kids his age are genuinely this determined to do something? Not many would be the most probable answer. The odds of him being forced to practice and have lessons are quite high, especially if this kid is coming from a family where this sequence basically happened. "Mum, a bassoon isn't a brasswind instrument." "Yes it is." "Buy me one and I'll prove it." I always find myself feeling bad for these prodigious kids, just because the odds of the instrument they play being forced upon them is much higher than magically being able to play.

      Jackie Faith I'm also, a 15 year old bassoon player, but I played oboe beforehand, and the practice I had using high air pressure significantly helps my tone. So, basically, use lots of air. (Also make sure you get handmade reeds, not the store bought pieces of crap)

    @bobperlman Your son is a truly gifted young man. I'm 16, and I am a bassoonist as well. I can tell you from experience and hearing other people play that it is rare to find young teens able to play with such good tone. The bassoon has such awkward fingerings, and is a difficult instrument. Tell him to stick with it, being a good bassoonist opens up so many doors considering the rarity of good bassoonists.

      @@samuelbertenshaw5511 The cheapest way to get a bassoon that's guaranteed to not be a scam in NA is to buy one off of eBay or something like that, do any necessary repair work and add any keys you want. Ends up being around 2-3k Canadian dollars at the least
