Madigan's Pubcast, Episode 6: Canadian Killers, Aliens, and Monster Sharks 🔪🛸🦈
Вставка
- Опубліковано 5 лют 2025
- Kathleen opens with an introduction to “Cardboard Cher,” who will be joining the Pub crew. She reveals that one of her favorite Twitter accounts to follow is “Super 70’s Sports,” and laughs at a recent tweet they posted showing the Milwaukee Brewers ground crew originally wearing lederhosen. Kathleen loves the city of Milwaukee, and although she is a lifelong St. Louis Cardinals fan she admits that she would be excited to attend any Brewers game, especially if there were lederhosen involved.
She announces that she’ll be opening her weekly Pubcast with a Dolly Parton quote, with this week’s quote involving Dolly and business. Kathleen states that the best concert she’s ever seen in her life is Cher in at the Park Theatre in Vegas.
SHARK WEEK & MEGALODON: Kathleen reveals her extreme disappointment regarding the authenticity of the 2013 Shark Week special “Megalodon: The Monster Shark Lives.” Her bff Lorene (who also directed Kathleen’s “Bothering Jesus” special on Netflix) provides insight on how you can tell whether the content of one of these shows includes accurate and true information. Kathleen goes on to describe the outrage from both scientists who knew that the mega shark was a hoax, as well as viewers who believed the History Channel’s Megalodon story. The Network regrouped and promised to reinspire the integrity of Shark Week content to fans, and the following Shark Week season they released the sequel “Megalodon: The New Evidence.” This sequel ALSO provided no credible proof of Megalodon’s existence, which was finally disclosed in the third installment “Megalodon: Fact vs Fiction.” Kathleen remains a huge fan of the History Channel and Shark Week, following numerous sharks on Twitter such as “Deep Blue” and “Katharine the Shark.”
BILLBOARDS: Kathleen discusses her opinion of billboards, stating she’s never received any useful info from them except when in Vegas and Atlantic City. Kathleen thinks that most billboards don’t display “fun” information, and therefore don’t motivate her. Most contain positions on abortion, religion, and 800 numbers you shouldn’t call, and she thinks that they “junk up” any road trip. Kathleen appreciates a good truck stop on a road trip, and agrees that Loves Truck Stops rent billboards in good locations so that she can plan bathroom breaks accordingly. She applauds the 4 states that have outlawed billboards: Hawaii, Alaska, Maine, and Maine. Florida has the most billboards of any state (11,100 permits on file) followed by Georgia (9,600), California (8,700), New Jersey (8,500) and then Kathleen’s home state of Missouri (2,100.)
ELVIS’S ROYALTIES & COLONEL PARKER: As a follow up to Episode 5, Kathleen confirmed Lisa Marie Presley’s ownership of Graceland. In looking into Elvis’s estate further, Kathleen wondered what happened to the money generated from Elvis’ recording royalties. Elvis. Presley Enterprises owns the rights to all recordings made after 1955, but has no rights to the Sun Records catalogue.
Kathleen explains how Elvis was defrauded by his first manager, Colonel Tom Parker. When Elvis began recording at Sun Records in 1954, he signed a contract with Sam Phillips (owner of Sun Records) giving Phillips exclusive ownership to ALL recordings made in his studio. In 1955, Phillips sold Elvis’s Sun Records catalogue recordings to RCA Records. Kathleen screams at the events of 1973, when the Colonel negotiated a deal with RCA to give Elvis a lump sum of money in lieu of ANY royalties made on the Sun Records recordings. RCA gave Elvis $5.4M, which makes Kathleen’s head explode when it is disclosed that the payout was split EQUALLY between Elvis and Parker.
Kathleen goes into further detail on her strong opinion that Colonel Parker was a complete con artist, including bundling Elvis movies and signing an exclusive merch deal in which he was awarded 25% commission on millions. Even at Elvis’s funeral, the Colonel attempted to persuade Elvis’s father to sign over Elvis’s business affairs after death.
DON’T FUCK WITH CATS: Kathleen reviews the Netflix documentary “Don’t Fuck With Cats,” which details the murders of Canadian serial killer Luka Magnotta and how a group of amateur internet detectives help international authorities bring him into custody.
WHAT TO WATCH THIS WEEK: Kathleen reviews “The Great Hack” on Netflix, which is the story of Cambridge Analytica and their influence on the 2016 US Presidential election.
MYSTERY OF THE WEEK: Kathleen discusses the UFOlogical-verified alien transmission on November 26th, 1977 in England. Southern TV was broadcasting the evening news when the tv pic wobbled and a 6-min message from alien Vrillon took over the broadcast. The transmission is available on a UA-cam video. Kathleen discusses her problems with aliens, and also the story of Fatima.
CLOSING REMARKS: Kathleen describes the disco she created in her bedroom as a teenager, and her love for Shaun Cassidy.
Kathleen, I know you have said you won't keep this up when life returns to normal, but I would be really stoked if you found a way to do it. You're really good at this.
"If you're in this Podcast, you're in it to win it with the rabbit holes" thanks for the laughs Kathleen!
We are winning with the hat trick: Cher, Stevie and Dolly! Its a pubcast trinity!
I'm binge watching these podcasts in chronological order. I graduated high school in '77 but don't remember hearing about that TV broadcast. At any rate, I'm sure it's a hoax. And those who perpetrated it didn't fess up because what they did was illegal and they didn't want to be arrested. Also, it sounds like they were idealistic and hoped it might make a difference. Anyway, thanks for all the laughs!!
First, I love that you have a pair of glasses on your head while wearing another pair, and second, you made my Alexa go off. I look forward to your podcast every week. Thank you so much!
Don’t forget the headphones! Makes me smile
I was thinking the same thing about the double glasses today!! Love it!! 😆😆
Every week?!?!? Noooooo! I just did all 6 in one day. Now what? I guess I will listen to Nim. Or the Hack... or the lies about Megladon.... 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️
I love your Pubcasts, Kathleen! Please keep doing them, I love your commentaries and jokes! I'm in Columbus, OH, and love to see your show next time you're in town. Stay safe and funny!
I'm also in Cbus!! I hope she comes to the Schott or Southern Theatre when its safe again. Love knowing that there is another Termite close by! 🖤
Nice to see people from Ohio on here, I just discovered the pubcast.
This podcast is what I needed in my life. Such a sweet community of followers 😸
My favorite billboards are in Branson (yea Missouri!). They advertise where you can buy timeshares. And then on the next block is another billboard advertising attorneys who will help you get out of your timeshare. If it weren't for all the billboards in Missouri, people wouldn't know where to get fudge or cutlery. 😕
Thanks, Kathleen! Love the pubcasts!
You makes Tuesdays special. Thanks Kathleen. Some times I find myself listening to you and I have no idea what the f$*K you are actually taking about and I don't even care. Amazing.
Kathleen - you make our days so much better! I love everything about this: the backdrop, the desk stuff, the rumbling of the paper, the sound of the ice in the drinks, the bartender’s notes, everything! Please keep them coming.
Thank you for being so authentic - and please come to NY after all this is better!
I stumbled on this podcast over the weekend and now I don't know how I have, or could EVER live without it! Love everything from the cardboard cutouts of all my faves to the stories and commentary. Always loved your comedy and now this is the best thing ever!
Thank you thank you thank you and please keep it up!!!
I love when you tell stories about your parents. Every story you've told about them in the podcast and your specials crack me up! Keep up the podcast, I'm really enjoying it!
I look so forward to your podcasts Kathleen. I love being a termite!
NAILED IT!!!!! I am really loving these podcasts!
Cher is an excellent addition to your back up gals!
Thanks for being there and providing laughter.
This come to you from one of your termites in the no billboard zone of Alaska.
Really look forward to these Pubcasts!! It’s a great escape and the laughs are so needed by so many right now. Thank you!! 💕😁
The area in England that the crop-circles popped up in is also in s outhern England. Wiltshire to be precise. 🤔 Possibly the next rabbit hole? So much to unpack there; Stonehenge , Avebury... Hope everyone had a wonderful rest of the weekend! 👽🎃🤖
Good pubcast Kathleen. Glad Cher is backing you up too. We always enjoy hearing what you update us on. Not only worthy termites here, but loyal ones as well. Keep it up please.
The best thing for me is that you are staying happy and healthy during this challenging time...and you are sharing it. Keep it up.
🤣 Enjoy your podcast. Appreciative of recently finding you! Catching up on your early shows 😃🧚♀️ Thank you~Stay safe. 🌷🌼
I love the glasses on glasses look.
Cambridge Analytics owes its life to Jill Lapore's "If Then" in which she chronicled the early days of data collection, and its value to political campaigns and companies seeking insight into consumer buying behavior. NPR's archived interview with her worth a listen. And thanks for adding the Cher life size to make a trifecta of wonderful ladies. Big fan of all three.
Also, looking forward to seeing Lewis Black on your Pub cast.
I totally agree with you Kathleen about billboards!
Especially the "TV" like ones. Very distracting AND UGLY!
Hi Kathleen!! Love your pubcasts! I look forward to them every week! So glad you added Cher! Would love to see you live sometime, I’ve been a fan for many years now! I listen to you just about every day on my way to and from work. You’re so funny!! Keep it up, termite!
Kathleen, I am a huge fan and wanted to say THANK YOU because Storytime and the Pubcast have been keeping me quite entertained throughout the pandemic! Since design work dried up I got a job delivering "the devil's lettuce" throughout San Francisco and always listen to your posts while I drive. I am also a midwesterner, originally from Indianapolis but have lived in SF for 20 years. The other day my friend and I were at her old Victorian apartment and noticed this crazy insect infestation that had developed mounds of dirt on top of the radiator- it turned out to be TERMITES! We had to get some Raid and tell them night-night! Also- Stevie and Dolly are also my personal heroine's! Hope to see you live someday.
Love love love Kathleen and this podcast. I listen to the episodes multiple times. So entertaining.
Just found these and love you. I am binge watching!
You make laugh so hard! Thank you for doing the run down the rabbit holes for me. I take your documentary suggestions to heart each week. I have not been disappointed.
I hope you know and can truly feel the gift that you are. Your ability to bring laughter during these strange times is needed. Thank you.
Girl you are doing God's work! Even if the nuns would say different. Peace out Girl Scout!
Sure do love your work, Kathleen Madigan. Thank you!
Love the Pub! I’m a liberal from Nebraska, and many of your stories about your Missouri neighbors are very relatable! Keep making the pubcast, it’s great!
So glad I found this pubcast! Huge fan forever. Seen all your specials a million times and seen ya live twice. Time for another one. Hopefully!!! Ron is on my list too. Anyway really enjoy you, I feel like an "insider" when you mention things like The Villages. BTW, huge doc fan. Saw Must Love Cats a while ago, now gotta watch Wild Wild Country. Thank you, keep it up.
My Alexa is racist. I asked her, “Alexa, play house cleaning music”. All the songs she played were in Spanish; so many accordions... I know I’m in south Florida, but REALLY??!! Bad Alexa! Shame on you! Ha! I was able to quit Facebook in 2014. It was rough, but I feel so free now. Of course, my livelihood is not reliant on social media, so I can’t imagine the difficulty you would face! Love your channel! Also, You were the best comic on Bagram’s USO stage in 2010 which included Lewis and the late Robin Williams. They were great but you were outstanding! Thank you!
I just got the note 20, and lost Facebook because I can't remember my email, phone number or password from 2009. I had about a week without it. I caved.
I am enjoying your podcasts! Thanks for sharing your insights!
I love listening to all your podcasts. You are so awesome. Keep them coming.
You could do a pubcast every day and I'd watch it faithfully 😀 Keep it up!
This is a great podcast Kathleen!! Love you Kathleen! I’m proud to be a termite 🦸🏻♀️
Excellent info. Excellent podcast!!
Would love to see you and Lewis do that 70's thing please, please, please.
I discovered your pubcasts just a month ago, so am hitting up your older ones.TY for the education and entertainment!😊
Who thumbs down her?? Love her!!! Saw her in person. She is a little cutie.
Helen morons who need a life and think being mean is fun.
I wandered the same thing🤬. Love her ❣️
I'm so jealous! I would love to see her stand up live someday...
Recently found your podcast (thanks to my better half) - and listened to this episode today - proceeded to go home and get lost in the rabbit hole of Don’t F**k with Cats…INSANE!
Love the podcast - excited that can binge these back episodes!! Keep up the amazing work - looking forward to more rabbit holes!
just noticed this episode says 3 years ago. doesn't seem that long ago things went to shit for a while and you started entertaining us out of boredom on youtube with storytime and this pubcast. thank you for 3 years of free entertainment. I do support your "work of the lord" here buying merch (still hoping for a baseball hat one of these days)
If you liked the Great Hack you need to watch the Social Dilemma, it explains a lot of what is going on today with Covid and riots and politics with people beiing fed only what they believe whether its true or not. I am reading 1984 with my senior in HS it is a little scary how relevant it is. Thanks for the pubcast and going down the rabbit holes.
As usual, loved the pubcast. Today, well 9/15 was Kathleen Madigan day in my diary. Got a new pubcast to watch, my tshirt arrived and my sister and I bought tickets to your Niagara Falls appearance in 6/21. We'll count on your readings and pubcasts to keep our sense of humor until then. Thanks. By the way, alot of police departments now have cybercrime units.
Got my t-shirt today, and listened to the podcast. That's a double win in my book!
Kathleen, so funny and yet extremely informative, thank you. I think that you should do a podcast with the Pete and Sebastian podcast...but the hilarity might be too much to handle .
Love that intro music!!!
Love when Paddles chimes in!
Awesome as always! From one mid-westerner (MN)!to another!
These aren't particularly sophisticated, but they're exactly what I need. I get to hear a ramble, I learn something, and I get a few chuckles in. Perfect replacement for bar conversations during COVID times. Thanks for making these, they always make my day!
And the Flynt Campari ad wasn't a cartoon, it was a fake interview, like she suggested. It also included a goat. Not bad for a laugh if you like mocking the Evangelical high horse.
Billboards....take my eyes off the road to read them and BAM. Basically yesterday's texting while driving.
I love Tuesdays during pandemic! Thanks Kat!
Have you seen the Mermaid “documentary” that aired on discovery!? The Body Found. I fell for it! Love your pubcast! Can’t wait to see you in AZ next year at the casino!
I did too!
Me too! (Can't wait til she comes to Arizona) IF the Rona doesn't keep her out of Scottsdale.... I want to see her so bad!! 💜
Another entertaining pubcast !! Think Derry Girls for your next viewing pleasure on Netflix if you haven’t done already . Good Irish entertainment . And really a Peaches LP crate ?? Haven’t seen those in 25 years ... love it !
Dammit, I love this woman! So funny, so intelligent and creative.
I think the message was clear and you are doing what they recommended. We can only control ourselves and our reactions and you are following that still small voice inside you and remaining calm through adversity. Your spirit tries to lift other spirits. The only control we have over weapons removal is with the leaders we elect. On a micro level we are doing great as a species but the further out we go from our little corner of the world, the more we fall apart. You are doing your part and are appreciated.
Love your podcasts. You're like a funny friend.
Loving the Pubcast and I love Bothering Jesus. I watched your special with my partner and had to pause it to explain to him the difference between Catholics and Protestants since he grew up without religion.
We just got a Love’s truck stop! Exit 175 on I70 in Missouri. Love your podcasts.
This girl makes my day....crazy fun way to hang out...spot on fact checking
As a Canadian I didn’t know about the psycho from the doc Don’t Fu*k with Cats until I watched it. It was crazy! I learn the weirdest shit from this podcast and that’s why I keep coming back every week, and of course, to see Kathleen!
Great show 👍🏼 One interesting thing about the cat killer was the amount of free time he must have had. Creating all his internet bios and creating alias of supposed followers, all to photo-shopping he did, insane! His mom was crazy also. Thanks again for a very informative and entertaining pub-cast. Have a great week Kathleen 😊
Fell for the shark too, but I read "Invisible Horizons: True Mysteries of the sea" by Vincent Gaddis that says there may be one by Indonesia. (Interesting book) For more meg (fiction though) Steve Alten.
As a kid, travelling in the back of a station wagon with my sisters, billboards were entertainment. We played the "Alphabet Game" where we tried to complete the whole alphabet from billboards. Missouri was great because of the abundance of Q in Antiques and Z in Ozark. Have you seen the movie - "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri"? That's billboard power, there, in movie. Kansas has a LOT of space for people. Just start with southeast Kansas. There used to be a lot more people there. Example - Crawford County, Kansas, almost 62,000 people in 1920 and less than 40,000 today.
Single mom working and schooling my 6 & 8 yr olds at home. This requires “micro-dosing” alcohol throughout the day - love tuning in to see what your drink of the day is. Please, PLEASE come to South FL with Ron White for a show when life goes back to normal!
Love the mystery section! I never even heard of these!!
Thank you Kathleen! Great way to make the work day less of a pain! I didn't know that about Falwell and Flynt, so can we really be surprised about jr.?
... “and Trisha Yearwood’s Southern Kitchen, that shit’s real.” ❤️😂❤️
Something about Dolly's left arm, coupled with your shadow, make Dolly look about 5 months pregnant. Anyone else notice this? Love this podcast Kathleen. Keeping me sane. Can not wait to see you again LIVE!
I did just watch the UA-cam Vrillon spot. Interesting that the alien has a southern British accent, as well... 👽🇬🇧
There already is a rabbit hole podcast. Well worth a listen.
Kathleen!! Absolutely love you and EVERYTHING you do!!! You and I are contemporaries, and you have seen my thoughts!!!🤣 Not a safe place to be, but sure is fun having company!!!
#tuesdaysrock
Kathleen, are you aware that you are sold out of termite tshirts? I went to order ours and there are none available! My husband and I love Story Time! We really want the T-shirts. When are you going to have them in stock? You have a lot of wholesome and worthy termites who need sleep wear!
Yeah! It's almost 12 o'clock and I am ready, got a snack and I'm drinking my own mixture of vodka, Sprite and orange juice with extra vitamin c, gotta get your vitamins!
Debra Helmlinger : that’s practically a health drink!
Second version, vodka, Sprite and apple juice, we all need more fruit
Nice 😉
I managed to make myself watch "Don't F**k With Cats" in its entirety, and was glad I did. It is an excellent documentary. Fascinating how the computer nerds managed to do all that investigation from their homes.
Enjoyed the Col. Tom Parker/Elvis info. Curious how many managers take advantage of their clients. Would like to add another favorite Elvis song, "I Can't Help Falling In Love With You" Its the only Elvis song that I know all the lyrics by heart.
Thanks for making Tuesday special!
P. S. Please market termite facemasks. I would love one!
Also from an Irish family of nine. No one under six feet though. Laughed so hard when you said in a large family a hug is a sign of weakness you do not want to show!.....lol
All three ladies ! Looks great, they look like your personal assistants. 🙀
I use to love the Pedro South of the Border billboards. They livened up driving through N Carolina on my way to my grandmothers house.
Oh and the Discovery Channel did a show special on Mermaids!
Why?
“I don’t know, someone saw one I guess”
You may have missed a great fork in a rabbit hole:
“gin up” traces it to the application of ginger (the spice) to the posteriors of horses in order to make them appear livelier to a prospective purchaser or to run faster in a race. Such “gingering” was apparently widespread at one time.
Hello from Kansas 😂🌻Wiiiiiidde Open! 😏
Keep giving us homework assignments! Love it. 🍻👍
“Aliens are vague.”😂
I think you should talk about the documentary from 2011 on Discovery, Mermaids the body found. I loved the Do not F-- with cats doc on Netflix. I also think Aliens need to be more specific 🤪🍻, thanks for the laughs 😂✌️
OMG!!! I'm from Utah and I think I was pulled over by the same cop on our way out of Utah towards Wendover!!! We were going 98!!! He seriously looked like Howdy Doody!!!
I've been wanting to say that I love it that you wear glasses on your face AND on your head as a headband. I may have to start doing that. Top that off with your headphones and you look like a really busy journalist facing a deadline. Also, love the Cher cutout. Basically, it looks like we're watching an on-air journalist reporting with 6 other people in the room and two of them are making out behind your back, literally. What Larry Flynt did for 1st Amendment rights was huge. Porn fan or not, Larry took it to the Supreme Court and won. Give the movie, The People vs. Larry Flynt a look. It pretty much covers the entire case and Larry's zany, unwavering resilience. Given your taste in movies, I think you'll like it, especially the legal end of it. Flynt even has a small role as Judge Morrissey of the Cincinnati Court. Again, many thanks for the pubcast. Love it. Good stuff.
One of these days I want to stop at Grandpa's Cheese Barn here in Ohio. But as a whole, I hate billboards, too!!!
Ahhhh , happy senior termite here in 1066 County. Thanks Maddy. Funny generous lass. 🥰😊
Idk Kathleen...tic tok may be a bad idea..those Chinese people from Paris could still be looking for you! 🤷♀️🥢LV 👜👜😂😂
🤣🤣🤣 the Chinese mafia according to her mom.
So glad to see Cher joining us today.
Driving down to the Ozarks they always had those billboards for Meramec Caverns & Jessie James’s hideout. They even had a billboard that said you missed the turn to the hideout. Turn around!😂
Greetings from Sudbury, Ontario! Love your podcasts! We are kindred spirits, as I also make sure I put OFF on before going outside. Catholic school sucks!
Omg I love Ann's bra shop!!! Also pretty sure 90% of those billboards are from Springfield to Branson
I love the rabbit holes!!!! 🐰
The whole time you were talking about aliens I was thinking about the song "Calling occupants of interplanetary craft" by The Carpenters😂
I wish I watched this later. It's to early for a cocktail. The sound of the ice is making me thirsty.
Nah, I had mine at 12
You are my current favorite spirit animal 😉
“It’s easier to quit a cult than it is to quit facebook” 😂😂😉
*side note: I may have paraphrased
OMG, my Alexa came on when you said her name!
Mine too. Startled the he'll out of me. LOL
I LOVE this podcast - It's the best accompaniment to b!tch ass chores I have - I've been avoiding my flexible spending account paperwork since April - but I got it done while enriching my life with this pubcast - I started at 6:30 in the morning with a cup of cocoa. I will join tiktok when you do.
my favorite part was "aliens are vague..."
I just quit fb, now I can't do a lot of things online.. games, or other things. I was on fb from the early days. Now finally ppl call me to see if I'm ok, because I don't post on it anymore.. huh?
My son's girlfriend watched don't fuck with the cats and said very interesting. Now I must watch...😁😁😁
“Aliens are vague” Yep, wrote that down!
