I'm visualising one in my life.
There are cheaper ones, like tank drum.
You can buy it next time :) or try Kalimba, it's affordable musical instrument. Like a thumb piano
One coming in the post .. im 71 and always wanted one.. so decided to go for it. Thanks ❤
I’m 72. My kids pitched in and got me one
Amazing!
Are you enjoying it, are you having lessons?
I just spend half an hour each morning, enjoying myself. ' me time'
For the first time I heard a hand pan when I sat on a terras near a park in Amsterdam. It brought tears to my eyes. Did not dare to go to ask what instrument that was. Now, years later I stumbled upon a video that was shared in Social Media. There I heard the name handpan for the first time. So I am going to buy one. First I will go and find out which handpan touches my soul and the journey starts from there including the great community of handpan players. Namastee 🙏🏽
Have you found your scale already? 😊 I also buyed my first handpan, it was a search!
@@brentmoerenhout1734 which scale did you decide to go with if you don’t mind me asking? :)

How many inches is your Handpan?
Same here. Don't know where to start
i appreciate you showing us how to play man. i’ve had my handpan for about two weeks now and i’ve already learned so much from you. i put people to sleep when i play around them lol
I recently received my first handpan/hangdrum. Daniel Waples inspired me. It's so intuitive. I love it. I don't need need to know the notes or read music. I just follow the sounds and let the sounds lead me.
At what price, if i may ask? Thank you. The Kurd D drum from "MAG instruments" is almost 2000 Euro.
I just bought one on credit... I have wanted one for years... I'll be paying it off over the next year.
Only one oopsie :
Expensive
thank you, very helpful, oh gosh this was 6 years ago, still very helpful in 2023, thank you David
Seems like all handpan teachers have the same first name : David.....
Thank you David
Just got my first handpan, a MAG d minor kurd. I've looked at various lessons and I must say I find yours the easiest to follow with the quickest progress. I am of course also trying to own jamming and rhytms, but it helps to follow some sort of structural course, and I find yours brilliant.
Bruh, these things are so expensive. I really want one though.
I know! I really want to learn how to play it!
I thought it was a 2 peice of iron plate wont be expensive but i was wrong.
Amazon lets you pay them off interest free if you get their credit card. Been waiting years for one, its finally in the mail.
@@Echiya I've been thinking about doing that. Which one did you get? Are you happy with it?

Many years ago I was walking down Sta Catarina Street in Porto City when I listened to a heavenly sound all around me... it took me a while to understand were it was coming from but then I saw a guy in the midle of the street with a handpan (first time ever) and it was such a strong emotional experience... I really would like to learn how to play it myself 😊
Very sensitive and grounding intro to the handpan! Thank you very very very much!!! All my blessings for you
I really need to say thank you for ur awesome videos. As a kid i played drums, but never became really good. Now the little i learned back then really helps me with ur lessons and learning to play this wonderful instrument is kind a insane. At the moment i'm at Lesson 4 or 5 and it just sound so awesome. Thank you very much for sharing your techniques and teaching us.
I had a dream about playing this. This will happen.Thank you so much ❤️🙏.
Thank you. Looking forward to following you.
Thank you for sharing.
Even before the violin this is the most beautiful sounding instrument I have ever heard. I absolutely feel like I am in heaven when I hear this. My friend showed me this instrument yesterday and I fell in love with it so much I ordered one last night.
one of the finest masterpiece instrument created by a creator..thank you mush for bringing this to us to mesmerize with this magical sounds of handpan..
subbed will be using thanks. love the instrument glad I got one
Very helpful! Thanks!
Thank you so much for these videos! Knowing there isn't a ONE SINGLE ABSOLUTE way to play this beautiful instrument is extremely reassuring! (My oboe teacher would rap my knuckles with a pencil if I wasn't holding the instrument right! --Not hard, though, just enough as a firm reminder xD ) Oddly enough, the fingers that gave me the most trouble with the oboe are my favorite fingers for handpan; my ring fingers.
Thank you for supplying this boost of confidence, as trivial and silly as it seems. I'm anxious to check out your other lessons!
Blessed be and merry meet
We just got delivered handspan so excited

I just buyed a handpan, it arrived today and I hope with your videos I will be able to play some easy tunes soon. I am definitely going to use the thumbs for the three lower tones but for the other ones I find the middle fingers more practical.
Thanks for making these!
hey! dont youre thumbs ache?
Hi, i’m also planning to buy one, i’ve never used a handpan before but i love it and find it interesting. But i’m a little bit afraid of the idea, what if i didn’t learn how to play it and it was waste of money! So wanted to ask you what do you think, i guess it has been couple of months since you bought it, is it hard or you learned?
Where are you at today with your handpan?
I will be getting my handpan soon. My son is an amazing guitar player. Hopefully there will be some collaboration too 😊
I love the sound so much, yet I'm so unsure of how often I'll use this as an investment. I'm really looking to get one, it could be such a cool thing to cover modern songs on.
Hi David, am awaiting my first "handpan", actually have a Hapi Drum on the way. Have found that your tutorials seem very well thought out and would suit me (or anyone wanting to get started on these instruments) in learning how to get the most of my new instrument. I find your videos very well thought out, not only in their drills, but in the progression that you lay out for growing and improving one's dexterity and coordination. I've been practicing already on my desk, as I watch or sometimes on my lap, until my drum does finally arrive. Hope the practice pays off and when I can, I'll submit a video to show you how well your teaching comes across. Thank you for your efforts and your skill!
would love to see your video, please send it :)

Learning to play the Handpan has been calling me, it's time to learn
Looking to add this to my goth/speed metal bands
Please do upload more vdo 🙏 thank you soo much for this vdo
thank you brother. Alway have been mainly a guitar player, bass, little piano, other odd stringed instruments, etc. I enjoy playing the drums, not enough to spend the $ and I’ve always loved playing the congas. Anyway I saw a handpan in a movie or t.v. show 10 or so yrs ago and knew I wanted one. I finally broke down and bought one yesterday as a birthday pres to myself. (2-11-75) Thank you! Subscribed🙏🙏🙏 Liked. Looking forward to gleaning some of your knowledge. now, DON’T C@(K IT UP! 🤪 😉
Hey there David,
Thank you so much for this very easy to follow beginners guide, am enjoying working through it!
Am curious what kind of stand you are using here for your Handpan please?😁
Finally got my today! Thank you so much for the extremely simple intro! I played piano for almost 15 years but got in a car accident and don't have all function of my left hand, any tips for how to play with limited ability?
I don't really have tips because both my hands work fine and I don't even have a handpan. But I was curious if you worked it out! I hope you enjoy the instrument very much

Where can I purchase a handpan? I’ve been saving up for a quality one with a sound quality of the one in this video.

I was really lucky. Id wanted one for a long time and was in the right place at the right time. One of my friends bartered my goat skin and a pair of animatronic cat ears for my new hand pan.
very good stuff, thx for sharing!

I just offered myself a huge present. A handpan. I've thinking about it for years and with the black friday deals it became more affordable. Thanks for my ex-husband paying out of the house 😁. So now I only buy myself things that give me pleasure. And I'm quiet sur a handpan will do just that. Now all I need to do is to learn how to play it😃
Congratulations!
You go girl....pleasure yourself with that handpan.
Hi I’m looking to buy my first hand pan. I have been playing drums for about 40 yrs and I don’t want to spend to much money but I don’t want to buy a cheap one that will need replacing. Can you please recommend one.
❤ well if you save up that's what I did it took me 6 months and I got mine I did misplaced the little chair and mallets that it came my little fingers can't hit it hard enough to make the tones loud or correct sounding
Thanks for this, David! Is there a certain key that is most popular to start with? I expect it depends on the kind of music you are playing, but am curious if there is one or two keys most suitable if you are only going to buy one handpan. Thanks!
Hi Sarah, there is no best or most popular scale in my opinion. You just need to listen to a lot of videos on here, and usually they will say in the description or title what scale it is. HOWEVER: there are definitely some hard scales which have very limited applications in my opinion: Hijaz, and Akebono, were like this for me. These scales would limit your style for sure. A simple minor or major scale would be probably a good place to start
Thank you so much for this videos, where should i hit? Exactly inside tge holes or a bit on the side?
aim for the completely flat part around the hole
Hi David, could you please tell me where to get this handpan? I like the one you're playing
I bought it used, but its made by Dave's Island Instruments and it's a D minor
Where could we purchase Handpan and courses for beginners. Are there handspans in the Philippines
What about using the tip of your finger like you're pressing a button?

Hey David! awesome videos man, I just recently purchased a handpan D minor 9 notes by lark music sold by Orcinawind on amazon, I have been messing around with it for a few days and it seems like I have to hit it pretty hard with my fingers to make good sound otherwise its quite feint. I was wondering if you know anything about this brand and if its a cheap knock off. If it is can you please recommend a good quality starter brand I could buy? I still have time to return this. Thanks in advance bro.
Hey, based on the reviews im reading, and looking at the price tag you seem to get what you pay for. For a decent quality you're looking at 1200 or 1500 at least. You can definitely use this to practice, and develop. But if you're not enjoying the sound then you have to think about investing a bigger amount. These are usually mass produced in china and you don't get the same magic with them. Up to how you feel about it, and if you have the budget for a better one. That's the best I can say.
I don't have a handpan, but after listening it I want one
Hi David! I don’t know anything about music, but I think your technique is good. Do you think I would learn how to play handspan following you? I already subscribed with your channel. Thank you!
yes, of course :)
I am getting one
Congrats! what kind?
Which tone pan is this?
Quale hanpan mi suggeriresti accorda sul 432 hz?
how long does it take to learn to play well enough to share beauty to others along the soundwaves :-) a few months??
Hey David, I'm learning how to play my handpan and I currently only use my thumbs. I honestly can't see myself using any other fingers as it is hard to get a solid sound. Should I practice with my other fingers or is it possible to play this instrument with only my thumbs? I don't see a lot of other people using their thumbs.
Thanks for all your videos.
you can do quite well with just your thumbs so no need to stress about that :) But to advance, it helps if you add at least 1 or 2 more fingers.but this will take time if it doesn't come naturally. see lesson 15 in this series for how to practice those: ua-cam.com/video/-ExH5QvFmXs/v-deo.html

Can anyone tell me where to buy it in India? Online or otherwise?
What tone is tuned? 40/M hungary
Do you use a microphone to make the sound louder on this video? I want to record some of my sounds but don’t know what kind of microphone to use? Any recommendations?
check out my video on the AKG contact mics. Or if you want to do a proper recording there are plenty of videos out there about handpan mics (if you don't have studio quality sorroundings, a shotgun mic would probably be the right choice).
Do you do privat classes over the zoom ?
sorry I do not :)
What is the best, more complete sounding handpan configuration that I should order?
I found a builder in Colombia...
I might visit soon.
Thats a hard question. I have a video on this subject here: ua-cam.com/video/Y3X29dkLD-s/v-deo.html being able to visit a maker and hear their work live is a very big plus. Try out as many as you can, listen to many different scales on youtube. Easier scales might be something like a D minor, Kurd 9. Harder scales would be something like a Hijaz, or Akebono. I hope that helps.
Can you do major and minor keys? Or do you have to buy a separate handpan for each key?
an instrument has only 8 or 9 notes. so you need a separate instrument. search youtube for "minor handpan scale" and "major handpan scale" separately
Can I also use this lesson series for my Guda hand drum
I don't see why not. I play congas and bongos like this too.
Is there any suggest brand for me to get started.
Check out my newest video on As Teman handpans, or MAG Instruments. Both are very good quality, reasonably priced instruments.
Hello, thank you very much for publishing these tutorials, they are very didactic, a consultation, I have been practicing for three days several hours and my thumb hurts in the bone, is it normal or am I doing something wrong ?, regards
yes, thats normal if you've never played for long hours on a percussion instrument with your hands. your fingers will get used to the beating and punishment :)
This is very normal. In time your thumb will get harder and the skin thicker. Mine even after 2 years hurts after some intense sessions :D
Ahoj ;) Jsem tu samože kvůli lekcím, ale...zaujalo mě Tvé jméno...Zní česky. Tak zkouším, jestli jsi opravdu "náš", nebo ne...(?) where did you get this and how much did it cost, what is a reasonable price for them if i wanted to get one
a good starting handpan would cost you about 1000-1500 USD, either second hand, or from a mid-range manufacturer. there is a good second hand market through handpan.org for example. do NOT buy from ebay, it's full of scams.
Is there a lesson 2 ?
yes, there's a lot more: ua-cam.com/video/hj2Ujv1fL24/v-deo.html

Have a nice weekend!
How much do hand pans go for? Where’s a good website to purchase them from?
a middle of the range handpan goes for about 1500 EUR on the market. browse around on handpan.org for makers and reviews and you can buy some directly from makers. others have a long waiting list. there is also a vibrant second hand market as people are constantly swapping pans to find the right one for them.
💜🙏
I've been looking into purchasing a handpan - Can anyone please advise which brand is decent for someone who is a beginner?
Depends how much money you are willing to spend, and how fast you want it. But I wouldn't recommend going below a certain price range (at least 1200 EUR usually). And decide if you want it new or used. THe latter will require more research. You can also check out my video on the topic from a few months ago.
It's a beautiful instrument. Cost should reduce so that more PPL ll be able to learn it.
how much is this hangpan? I am planning to purchase one but no idea for a price. any recommendations please?
a decent one is around 1500 EUR. not very easy to come by. but maybe i can help you. send me a PM please
