  • In this video I'll show you how to make freestanding Christmas tress with your cross stitch. The template for the these trees can be found on my website: www.eastcoastcrafter.com
    I said I stitched these on Dusk Aida, but I actually used 14 count Echo Aida from Picture This Plus with the called for Classic Colorworks flosses.
    To make a template for a different chart, make a triangle measuring a half inch from the bottom of your stitching and a half inch from both sides.
    The chart that I used is The Tree Lot by Hands on Design.
    handsondesign.biz
    Supplies used:
    Mat board
    cotton batting
    Double Sided Tape (I use Scor Tape from Amazon)
    Bodkin
    Needle & Heavy Duty Thread
    Hot Glue
    DMC floss for cording.
    Tree stump place card holders: www.amazon.com...
    Here is the link to my tutorial on cording: • Flosstube Extra: Custo...

    GREAT tutorial! You made me lol when you mentioned your "broke-in, bent needle" --> *raises hand*...YUP! I can relate! I actually have some stands I got last year that might work for these! Thank you so much for the lesson!

    Thank you so much for your great tutorials. I have made several of Liz's 12 days trees. I wanted a different finish. So glad you filled the bill. I orderd the tree lot and chalkboard and they came today, I got the log bottoms on Saturday.. I have had the Cord maker for a few years and never used it. I will now as I have so many to do. I went back and watched your video. You are so generous with your time and videos. THX THX THX

      It sounds like you're ready to go! I love Liz Matthew's trees, but she uses styrofoam for her tree shape, and I can't stand working with styrofoam, so I knew I would have to come up with another option.

    Hello and thanks so much for a great tutorial. I found the tree chart from a UK seller and have just ordered it so it should be here quicker than from USA. Great instructions and easy to follow finishing. I'll be looking back on all your Flossies for more inspiration and no doubt more temptation to spend on must have designs! Thanks again x

    Love your trees! Thanks for the tutorial, they always get my creative thoughts flowing, So here's a thought. Could you leave the hole in the bottom of the tree wide enough to push the stand through? The pike of the base will be sandwiched between the top and the sides so it won't move. Then the finish could be done on the bottom. Thanks for stirring up the ideas!🪡🥰

    • @helend.flosstube
      @helend.flosstube  10 місяців тому

      You could do it that way. I did a finish with a photo holder for a friend this summer and did it that way, but I found it to be quite wobbly, so personally I'm taping it down to give it some support. Also, that piece was laced and the holder got all kinds of tangled up in there! I definitely don't recommend that!

    • @helend.flosstube
      @helend.flosstube  10 місяців тому

      I haven't had a problem with my cording unwinding. I use the Kreinik corder, and one I drop the corder to twist the colors together I tie a knot on one end and that holds it. When is yours coming undone?

  • @beckymartin203
    @beckymartin203 10 місяців тому

    Thanks for another terrific tutorial. I appreciate the time and energy you put into each one. I was wondering if you considered not taping the base to the inside of the tree. My idea is that the bottom edges of the stitching and the backing would not be sewn together, but everything else would be the same. I’m considering this to possibly make the bases re-useable for other seasonal trees and possibly make storage easier, since the trees/backing could lie flat. The only disadvantage to me is if you wanted the trees to be varying heights, I don’t know how that could be accomplished as the height would be determined by the slope of the sides and the top of the card holder. I would Iove to know your thoughts about this approach.

    • @helend.flosstube
      @helend.flosstube  10 місяців тому +1

      Earlier this summer I finished a piece for a friend the way you suggested and found a couple problems. First, I laced hers, and the photo holder got all tangled up in the lacing when I tried to remove it. That was a pain. Then, because it wasn't taped, just tucked in there, the base was very wiggly. I'm with you, I thought having a removable base would be great, but I found that taping help everything together better and I think it will hold up better long term.

  • @cindytracy9707
    @cindytracy9707 10 місяців тому
