When Rufus got bricked off in the basement it was actually a direct reference to “the cask of amontillado” in the story the main character Fortunato gets lured into a basement at a party by a friend who then drugs him and bricks him up behind the wall. Fortunato in the short story is even a jester, another direct reference to Rufus because of his costume at the party.
The whole storyline involving Frederick and his wife Morelle is a reference to a short story 'Berenice' I thought it was a great little inclusion once I realised where they were going with her plotline. It's a very good Poe short.
I really really hoped they wouldn't include Berenice in the adaptation, it's just so disturbing. Of course they've done it briliantly, but oh my god, I did not want it to happen. Only read it once and it was more than enough.
Actually tamerlane's husband william is a wink to william wilson, that another story of poe, but they aren't really anything more similar, unless if you see it from tamerlane's perspective thinking he had started an affair with verna, making it seem as he was a double face, even if he only had a second life because she pushed him to it
I did not get the vibe she killed get girlfriend on accident like she very intentionally sat there and let her die that was a purposeful choice so I consider that not an accident
Yeah that’s true, I meant it more like she didn’t purposefully and intentionally throw the thing to kill her. But you are absolutely right she could’ve tried to save her girlfriend, could’ve had the guard help save her etc.
@@heyfuturesoul Can’t argue that! But man when she just sat there and not only watched her struggle but told off someone who could have maybe called for help it’s like there were so many chances to not do be like this girl why😭 I think her character stood out to me as one of the most cruel ones it really freaked me out!

Do I dare to read it😅
Tammy's death is based on William Wilson, and the Brock wall entombing is The Cask of Amontillado. That one is one of my favorite Poe stories!
