Hey! this is one of the best songs from Patty Smyth. There was no video of this song so i made one my self using Patty 's pictures.I hope you guys enjoy it.
When I hear this song I think about my Father and his time in Europe during WWII. The stories he told us over the years were frightening, to say the least. He lost many friends and saw a great deal of death. It caused him great pain for many years seeing all the horrors of war and the tragic loss of so many lives. Not to mention the lives he had to take just to stay alive and keep his brothers in arms alive as well. War is hell no matter the reasons. There is nothing glorious about the senseless deaths of hundreds of thousands of people for the greed and power of corrupt and evil men. As long as they exist good men and women will fight and die for the freedom of our nation and those we ally with. My father made it home, married and raised 9 children... many men never even knew what it was like to hold a woman in their arms before they were cut down by what war labels our enemy. God rest their souls.
@@Meriale46 Your dad and his combat brothers are nothing but absolute heroes. I'm glad to read that he returned fine and had the chance to live a good life. We all are so thankful of people like him and we aknowledge all kind of sacrifices the had to make.
This is an awsome song it was originally by the British band Magnum, originally called Les Morts Dansant probably the most under rated of bands.....guys you got to check out the original !!!!
Great song, im glad Magnum have got some recognition for all the hard work they do, and Pattis version is great, thanks Patti, but anyone who hasn't heard the original should give it a Worle. 🌍💚🌏
❤❤❤ WOW !!! JUST RECEIVED THIS VIDEO. I JUST WOKE UP FROM A STRONG VISION. PATTY SMYTH CAME TO MY HOUSE TO CONSOLE ME AFTER ALL OF MY LOSS THESE PAST YEARS. MY PARENTS, SISTER RITA, PET LILY'S DEATHS AFTER MY CAREGIVING OF MOM FOR 14 YEARS, DAD 19 YEARS. 6 STAGED WRECKS, DECADES OF SLANDER AND ATTACKS ON MY FAMILY, ON AND ON. LORD SAVED ME. THANK YOU LORD. PATTY IS MY SISTER IN CHRIST, AMEN ❤❤❤
Yes, both are great -- the original and Patty's. Patty's because like the great singer and interpreter that she is she produced a great dramatic but not bombastic over-produced version. She did the Magnum song justice for her specific listening audience who may never have heard the Magnum one. This is her brilliance. She did it for Tom Waits also -- long before Rod Stewart covered "Downtown Train." I hope someday she covers The Angels' brilliant song "The Moment," and Spear of Destiny's "I Remember." Two incredible, obscure songs. Patty is a marvelous interpreter of other people's songs.
I have read that "the dancing dead (les morts dansant)" refers to the bodies that hung on the wires in no man's land. When the bullets hit them, they would move. Evocative (if grisly) lyrics by Tony Clarkin.
I really love this song. I bought her 1st album, after she quit the Scandal. She is very talented solo Artist. And I still miss her spirit rock and roll.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR THIS. I LISTEN TO PATTY EVERY SINGLE DAY. I HAVE 1000s OF CDS TO CHOOSE FROM. PATTY SMYTH AND ROSANNE CASH ARE MY 2 ARTISTS CDS THAT ARE NEVER PUT UP. BLESSED TO HAVE THEIR MUSIC. THEY BOTH HAVE SUCH A BRIGHT AURA. IAM A PROPHET WITH 3 FIRE ANNOINTINGS. I SEE AURAS AND THINGS IN THE SPIRITUAL REALM. GLORY TO OUR LORD. I AM AN INFJ/ HEYOKA EMPATH. ONLY 3500 OUT OF 7 BILLION ON EARTH. GOD BLESSED ME BEYOND BELIEF. I WAS MADE FOR THE ENDTIME. LOVE ALL, HELP ALL. THANK YOU LORD.
I’m dying to know how this happened…. Scandal’s singer covering a Magnum song from an LP that wasn’t released in the US…She should have covered the entire Storyteller’s Night Lp…nicely done Patty!
What sometimes happens is that publishers and managers talk to each when an artist is looking for songs to record and someone might go, "hey, I have a song that might work for your album." Many publishers are very active in that regard because placing a song on a (big name) artist's album can potentially generate lots of income for both the original writer and the publisher.
The British policy of firing squads for deserters was harsh but saved many lives. The British army has saved the world twice due to discipline, loyalty and unbending courage in the face of overwhelming odds. Freedom comes with a terrible price. These 2 generations of men paid the price in spades and now they are being forgotten and even ridiculed by the safe, spoiled privileged people they gave their lives for.
Aww, come on. They tell the kids that the british army has saved the World twice?Next time don't forget to mention to your kids the one or two platoons of american soldiers, the one or two platoons of canadian soldiers, the one or two platoons of russian soldiers and the resistance fighters in several countries that assisted the british to kick the german's ass in both wars. Sorry to read that some idiots in England ridicule their own troopers, though.(I almost forgot to mention the soldiers from down under).

My top three chick artists are Patty Smyth, Luba, and Charlene Spiteri. If you like Patty you might like those two as well. Charlene is the front for a Scottish band called Texas. Luba is a Canadian artist. Patty's "Downtown Train" and a song called "Out There" are two of my favorites from her. Such a mysterious, lost quality to them.
Those three are all great singers. I saw Sharlene Spiteri with her band Texas in an open air festival at South Shields a couple of years ago, they rocked!
A great cover this though I much prefer the original "Les Morts Dansant"-The Dancing Dead By Brittish Rock Band Magnum. This song was originally written by Tony Clarkin as a tribute to those poor men who were shot by their own for "cowardice" in the First World War. Great album (On A Story Teller's Night), and I really like the Magnum original version too. But Patty is my favorite female vocalist, and I love the passion she puts into this song.
+Duncan McScottish I knew there had to be a story behind this song. Thank you for shedding that light.... Powerful stuff...but then again, this IS Tony Clarkin we're talking about.

Does anyone know what this lyric in the song is referring to: "Paper square to his heart pinned tight"?
Means it gives the firing squad a place to aim at. But one of the rifles shoots a blank so that the riflemen arent sure who really didnt shoot him
Any one has "out there" by her?
It refers to the target which the marksmen should shoot
Bro what a song. Do you have spaniel pups? will name them patty if you gave me one for free
gtfo hassaan
Octavio Castro gtfo hassaan
Such a shame that she had to rename it as (probably) her PR/label didn't think that her US buyers could cope with Les Morts Dansant.
That`d be my bet. They haven`t even put it in parenthesis & have removed it from the lyrics. Are US-buyers really that culture-less?
The paper square is placed over a condemned persons heart as a target for the firing squad.
