my biggest problem with these converters, is even if you select a 4:3 resolution on your mac, the image gets squished and never lines up correctly with the crt tv. I wish there was a fix to this but I haven’t found one so far.
I sometimes have this issue, but then most of the time it's perfect 4:3. I haven't figured out why this is happening, but my solution has been to turn everything off, unplug, and then play around with my output aspect ratios. It's the best way to solve this, but that has worked for me so far.
You can correct for this in VLC and even in youtube with an extension. It's called UA-cam Aspect Ratio Control, and it has worked for every aspect ratio I've thrown at it thus far. I'm not sure how to go about correcting the desktop itself and other apps.

Has this converter held up? I bought myself one of those cheapo HDMI2AV converters on Amazon but its picture degraded within 2 weeks.
