- Опубліковано 11 жов 2020
- Over the course of his lengthy career, Kevin Costner has traveled through some serious peaks and valleys. The multi-talented A-lister gained considerable Hollywood power from 80s and 90s smashes like FIELD OF DREAMS, THE BODYGUARD and the Oscar-winning DANCES WITH WOLVES… but was then dragged down by notorious colossal box office flops WATERWORLD and THE POSTMAN.
While he may no longer be a major marquee name, Costner has remained busy with the smash hit series Yellowstone and lower-profile film roles. In this episode we catch up with the career of the actor, director, producer, sports fan and Western lover known to the world as Kevin Costner.

Kevin still the man in my book. Waterworld is underrated
it was a mess to MAKE.. the movie itself.. is damn good.. all the bad press about its running over budget, delays etc,, got somehow morphed into " this movie sucks"..
it doesnt.. i love it, seen it numerous times..
" She's..... my friend......................." "oh wow a Single tear rolls down my cheek..."...
one of my fave films
I have it on my list on Netflix. Now I HAVE to watch it.
Agree loved it back then still love it
My mother took us to drive in and every body there blew horns and cheered after
I grew up thinking everybody loved it
Waterworld is dog shit!!!
You missed out on the opportunity to highlight Costner's best "acting" gig in the movie Mr. Brooks. It was the first and only movie in which Costner played a psychopath. And that was a complete 180 degree deviation from the traditional roles he has done all throughout his career. And because of his charisma and the way he showcases the struggles his character has with his inner demons, the viewer emotionally connects to Costner's character and sides with him all throughout the movie while he is killing innocent people. And that is why Costner is a master actor, because he is able to make a psychopath likeable. If an actor mostly known for westerns, sports movies, and political dramas is able to play a psychopath so perfectly that the audience roots for the psychopath to succeed, that actor and the role deserve serious applause. The movie has a 7.3 on IMDb for a reason. Not to mention it has Demi Moore, William Hurt, Dane Cook, and an amazing supporting cast. I really wish you had talked more about Mr. Brookes and 3000 Miles to Graceland (there is a lot to say about that movie).
I love Mr Brooks ! Super underrated.
Mr. Brooks was really good. Very underrated imo.
I've never seen it or heard about it. Now I'll have to see it. I'm very curious.
He’s in a new series called Yellowstone...he knows what he likes to do and he knows his fan base...just because he isn’t all over TV craving attention doesn’t mean he’s gone...he’s making what he wants.
I'm really enjoying Yellowstone. Cowboy Costner back doing what he does best.
Yellowstone is a great show.
Yellowstone is good series. Acting plot twist are very convincing
Gotta respect it
When you get to a certain level, and don’t need the money…….. you can be choosy.
I loved him so much in The Body Guard, Field of Dreams, The Untouchables, and JFK. He's a great film star.
]]
Kevin Costner is one of the best actors of all time, he just doesn't play the Hollywood games
WHAT? I have always loved his movies but his acting sucks. He picks good movies but he's the same damn person in all of them and that person is emotionless and speaks awkwardly constantly.
Lol that’s why he cheated on his first ugly wife playing Hollywood games where u been
@@danielbrowniel I agree can’t stand his voice but good actor
I quite like Costner...but he is a HUGE player of the Hollywood Games. He stepped on a lot of necks to get where he was at his height.
Kevin is obviously a good actor! His voice is fine by me!
Kevin Costner ist famos all over the world. He is very busy and has many Talents. He is also good in storytelling.Chapeau,Mr.Costner!
Kevin Costner is a true legend. I love his movies.

I was a kid when Costner was becoming a massive star. I liked him a lot. I think one role that stood out as his best is Bull Durham. He just has it all in that one. He’s so freakin’ good looking in it but more than that, he’s got that charm, dry humor, and vulnerability and has such great lines.
I think he had great screen presence. He did some turkeys, but who doesn't?
Well, that was because he had a great script. What happened to him is what happens to most of them. He got big, then he thought he didn't need any help, advice, or criticism, had the money to do what he wanted, and took on stuff that stank, or wasn't right for him (those gross accents). Looks like he's rediscovering his limits and therefore doing well in Yellowstone.
He didn't go anywhere, he's still awesome.
Open Range is one of the top westerns of all time
Behind Unforgiven but Id hate to live on the difference
It actually is.
@@rezarfar you should check out reddead redemption 2
@@johnlawful2272 i have, but i don't really enjoy 250 hour movies and im not fond of slow ass cowboy simulator games.
I managed to beat the game and it's a fine story, but honestly, it's a terrible game, way too slow paced and everything is hassle.
I like my games to be less real life simulator and more, you know, fantasy entertainment.
Costner decided to quit his day job and go to Hollywood after taking a passenger plane flight and being seated beside legendary actor Richard Burton, who spoke so highly about the movie game that Costner decided there and then to be an actor on the big screen.
being on a flight with Richard Burton would have been absolute party to the max!!
If it supplies you with endless booze and women it can't be all bad.

Interesting. Hope that is a fact.
Hello my great fan, how are you my great fan? contacts my email, kavincostner7@gmail.com or whats app.. +15129107463
you know... my dad died in 2012, my mom in 2015. When I watched the Man of steel (in 2016) and that scene in particular, really didn't thought about the logic of it (flawed of course) but just made me cry. I think it was rightly done as acting is concerned. I'm not a fan of him but think public and critic are really moody sometimes and he has been judged more than many actors or directors, maybe because of his early success, it's very difficult to fill both critic and blockbuster expectations after a movie like Dance with wolves. Great video as always, thanks for sharing.

I've been a Costner fan since I was a little kid and watched Dances With Wolves in the theater. Hatfields & McCoys was a masterpiece too.
Edit: Dont forget A Perfect World, GREAT underrated movie!
I liked A perfect world
"Mr Brooks" was a great thriller and a phenomenal performance
Yellowstone is hands down my favorite tv series I’ve ever watched. Kevin fits PERFECTLY into the role of John Dutton.
YELLOWSTONE YES
So much great work here from Kevin Costner. Dances With Wolves and JFK are two of my favorite moves even in their long theatrical form. However, to truly appreciate both films you have to watch the extended Director's Cuts of both. True, in both cases that adds approximately an hour more runtime, which is why they would never be shown that way in theaters, but in both cases there is so much more information and details given.
I also am a huge fan of both Waterworld and The Postman. Even my friends can't understand what I see in those films.
Field Of Dreams is a movie on another level. Philosophy, spirituality, existentialism, faith, belief - it's all there and more.
Honestly, I feel like the films he likes being in just don’t get green lite anymore for big screen
If movies like Man of steel dont get greenlit anymore thats a good thing
Exactly
Honestly.. any time any one begins a comment with "I feel" you know its bs 😂
The death scene and telling young Clark not to save people were giant miss-steps. But that scene in the barn when he gets all choked up and says "you are my son" makes up for it. I forgot how much I love Kevin Costner. This is making me want to go back through is filmography.
Missteps
I love love LOVE that you cited that scene in Molly's Game as it is one of my most favorite scenes ever. Sadly most people won't realize it from the clip you played because to appreciate what it took to get to that moment and hear those words takes a whole movie. But sheesh every time I watch it - TEARS! SO MANY TEARS!
3000 Miles to Graceland kicks ass! Kevin Costner as the baddy was brilliant! Wish Ice T was in it more though.
Kevin Costner is one of my favorites..
The Untouchables was the first movie I saw him in, he was perfect for the role as Elliot Ness.
Boll Durham was next, funny, well played and a feel good movie against Susan Sarandon.
Field of Dreams, Dances with Wolves, JFK was top of the line movies, Bodyguard was so so..
A Perfect World was also a very good movie, I liked Tin Cup since i play golf myself, after these movies I have not seen anything except now Yellowstone that I like a lot.
Totally agree on JFK. Honestly, I don't even care if the events depicted in the movie are true or not, altho it's interesting to speculate. It makes a lot of points that transcend its specific politics. It spins a fever dream like web of intrigue. It really exploits what cinema is best at, imagery, sound, movement
Bram van der Hoeven way too long tho
@@USA-qm2bk I've seen the directors cut and the length was intense, but perfect and fitting to me. You just have to make some time for it. Some movies need to be that long.
Yes, plus anyone who actually bothers to watch the movie can see Oliver Srone is presenting a paranoid mystery thriller which depicts fragments of multiple theories throughout.
Also: Conspiracies are a fact.
@@ashroskell
Agreed.
You don't have to agree with the premise of JFK to enjoy it. I do agree with one notion though - I don't think Oswald acted alone, although whether he had help with the actual shooting is another matter.
WTF happened to William Fichtner
He is really underrated
He works regularly. Even directed a film recently. Plus he’s not nearly as big as everyone else this channel covers.
Great actor.
I love Willi Fich... fckng great actor!
William fichtner playing that weirdo detective in the movie "GO!" 🤣
Who?
"...the real Robin Hood is a fox..." 😂🤣😅😁👍👍👌 Brilliant as always Jo!
I liked "3 Days to Kill" (2014). I have to rewatch it, but I remember enjoying it when it first came out.
So basically, if you were paying attention, he didn't go anywhere.
I love Mr. Brooks. Didn't know it was planned as a trilogy...Super bummed they won't get done now. Costner and William Hurt are great together
WTF happened to:
Tim Robbins
Matthew Broderick
John Cusack
Edward Norton
I actually heard that American History X destroyed Edward Norton's career.
@@Texan45 That's not really the case. He got an Oscar nod from it, and from what I hear, he managed to save the movie by making edits to it.
I saw Glory the other day, and wondered WTF happened to Matthew Broderick.
@CornishCreamtea07 Matthew Broderick, while driving in his car with his gf at the time in Northern Ireland in 1987, crashed head-on into a car driving on the opposite side of the road for reasons he refused to admit (saying that he doesn't remember anything about the accident), killing the two women in it, but then only receiving a $175 fine as punishment. And now 38 years on, he is yet to have the decency to meet the wheelchair-bound son and brother of these women, despite him saying that he forgave Matthew and just wants closure, and despite Matthew saying he'd meet the relatives of the victims 18 years ago in 2002 (in a statement read by a spokesperson).
@@Texan45 fight club came out the next year after american history x. what are you talking about?
The Untouchables was a masterpiece. Costner in his prime, DeNiro gaining 30 lbs to play Capone, and Sean Connery in the role that finally won him an Oscar.
As a kid his Robin Hood movie was one of the most badass movies ever. To hear he won a razzie for this is nutty.
I loved that movie as a kid. Still holds up.. except his accent
@@justaguy2365 Agreed, also if it weren't for this film we wouldn't have the comedy classic Robin Hood: Men in tights
@@justaguy2365 The story I've heard throughout the years was Costner wanted to do an English accent but it wasn't good enough so he stuck with his own accent. It's very weird to do a Robin Hood movie with an American accent but I think that was a better decision if Costner's English accent was that bad. Look at Keanu Reeves in Dracula.
Dances with Wolves was a "bigger" movie than Goodfellas. And remember Westerns were big in that late 80"s early 90's era, Unforgiven won 1992 BP.
I love both movies, so no fight by me.
I was hoping I wasn't the only one who caught that. Both are all time greats but DoW was far bigger than Goodfellas upon release and years after.
I don't care what anyone says The Postman is a good movie.
Agree 100%. It’s a fine film with a good story and characters. Costner put real heart in it.
It was entertaining, but think people see that it could have been epic that should have spawned a franchise, but it fell short so people thought it failed. In that sense, there is a credible criticism and let-down.
Part of this is his playing Postman was just a ploy of a survivor and not a quest from someone who was on the brink when coming across the old mail truck and clung to this purpose out of a sense of purpose and hope...instead it was just a movie.
Yea I agree. The Postman is one of my favorite Costner movies.
Damn right.
My main issue with The Postman is that it is three decent movies stuck in one. They kept resetting the plot and when the final confrontation came, I really just wanted it to be over with. They stretched the movie too long and diluted the interesting bits.
Kevin Costner is my favourite actor and director.

Not trying to have a go at you but...really how can you review a person's movies if you haven't actually watched them? You mentioned "apparently it's good"...a lot...are you reviewing these movies or or are you relying on others to do your work... For example you panned "3 Days To Kill"...did you even watch it? It was actually a good return to the action hero format for Kevin...it certainly doesn't "suck maximum suckage"...
I agree completely. 3 Days to Kill was a new role for Costner and he did a damn good job with it. The movie wasn't as good as his acting was, but it still deserved to get more than a screenshot in this video. And I mentioned how he glossed over Costner's role in Mr. Brooks, which I feel was his best acting ever. Of course an actor who has done westerns, sports movies, and political dramas his entire career will succeed as an actor in those roles, but for Costner to branch out and play a psychopath that the audience loves (Mr. Brooks) and a Liam Neesom/Jason Bourne -esque action hired killer (3 Days to Kill)... those roles really showcase how masterful of an actor Costner is.
Awesome to know you agree with me on 3 Days To Kill. I'll have to watch Mr Brooks now that you recommend it that highly. Cheers!
I don’t like Titanic, but apparently it’s pretty good. I’ve seen the movie and my opinion is not the prevailing one. Seems to me how that line comes about
3 days to kill was great.
he makes such videos on dozens of actors, you cant expect him to watch every single of them movies man come on lol.
Reviews make sense, as we have both critics and audience reviews now.
Fandango is one of my very favourite movies with a fantastic soundtrack. And who doesn't get choked up at the end of Field of dreams.
The man has been consistently making a movie or 2 every year for like a decade. Thing like The company Men, Man of Steel, Jack ryan Shadow recruit, Draft Day, McFarland, USA, Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, Hidden Figures, Molly's Game, and The Highway men. On top of that he has been a major character in Yellowstone TV show. Where has he been? working. The hell have you been?
Well said.
When asked who my favorite actor is, I never know what to say...
But I soooo love most of his films... a huge majority in fact

I know i'm in the minority but I honestly really like The Postman. it is a little long, but it has such an interesting world and character. I honestly can't get a straight answer on why people don't like it aside from its length. People will go on and on about the flaws and strengths of Waterworld but the only thing ever said about the Postman is, "Its so long and dull."
hello thanks for subscribing and commenting on my UA-cam channel hope you don't stop with your love and support
Honestly, I loved The Postman too. Last week when I was having issues with the U.S. post office and a package that said it was delivered when it wasn't and they had no follow up... all I could think is where is Kevin Costner and his postal carriers when you need them.
“Pay me $500k/week and a comped 5star penthouse suite, oh yea and 5% of the gross ticket sales and we’re good.”-KC, Water World negotiations
Speaking of accents, the modern English accent was invented in the early 1800s and is called Received Pronunciation. US accents more closely sound like the original English accents of the time period of the 17th through early 19th centuries. Saying that the US accent is wrong while the modern English accent is right is completely wrong for Robin Hood Prince of Thieves. Neither accent would have sounded the same as what was around in the 12th century. It's pedantic to argue over the specific accent when the film was rather fine.
This is the best WTF you've made. Wonderful to watch, wish it didn't end so soon
Did anyone else actually like 'The Postman', or is it just me?
Tom Petty made a big special star appearance.
Just you.
I thought it was pretty damn good and I liked it.
I liked it
I really enjoyed The Postman but I found it on TV when it was already half way through. I watched the second half and then went back and watched the beginning later. I always wondered if not going through 90 minutes of set up made a difference to how I perceived the film. Then again, I love the 4 hour cut of Dances with Wolves and the extended LotR movies, so much so that I find the theatrical cuts lacking and prefer not to watch them.
They were doing some filming for Yellowstone at the courthouse in my town last week. I'll have to check out that show sometime.
Please watch yellowstone. It is awesome
You will be hooked.
Open Range has the best gunfight ever.
And then he fucks it up with a horrible ending throwing all that amazing gunfighting away for disgusting over the top romantic crap that totally has no place in that movie.

@@DrKuryakin I have to agree with you there that’s why I only watch the gunfight.

In my book Kevin is still going strong, regularly putting on good roles. Maybe for for smaller audiences, but he still performs. Guys like Bruce Willis that star in 4 straight to video movies a year are fading away, but not Kevin Costner.
The Guardian is easily one of his best films and it doesn’t get the love it deserves

Yellowstone in season 5 right now. Kevin Costner is the beating heart of the series. Love the show and love the guy
I'm near the beginning of season 2. I love Costner in cowboy movies. And, damn, he still looks fine.
I like Wyatt Earp and Tombstone. I watch Wyatt Earp when I feel in the movie for what feels like a more serious telling of the story. I watch Tombstone when I feel like I'm in the mood for a more Hollywoodized/cartoon version of the story.
Damn, this dude has some Mega Movies. Wow.
Awesome once again Just wanted to comment that the narrator sounds A Lot like Wilson character from TV show House. Keep up the good work
Actually, the modern British accent is farther from how Robin Hood probably sounded than the modern American accent.
There is no British "accent" - there are dozens of them. And some of them are very, very different to one another.
English & Irish accents developed into American( with a little Norse & French influence)......after they took over & settled in America........... You can't sound American back then , the accent didn't exist!. But if he's English & spent time overseas his accent could , could be a weird English. Scouse , Geordie , cockney , Yorkshire accents all English - all really different.👍
@@nel9357 Aye, ignore the Scots, why don't you? There are actually a few Scottish features in American English. The common use of the suffix -ster e.g. "gangster" (rather than "ganger") or "trickster", paralleled in Scots "baxter" (baker). The -ster formation is much less common south of the border, than in Scotland, and only found in northern parts of England near to Scotland. Americans also refer to their little finger as a "pinkie", another Scotticism.
The Scottish influence is more apparent on certain Canadian accents, especially in the Maritimes, but Scots were in the USA at a very early stage.
@@anonb4632 I know , I know !😁 I was just getting my point across & forgot to also type Scottish 👍 My Dad's from Scotland ! No hate for my brothers in the North. 👍
@@nel9357 No problem... Scottish and Irish accents have a huge influence on traditional Newfy and Nova Scotian accents (younger people less so), but the Scottish influence on American English tends to be overlooked.
"Gotten" is very American, and it pretty much died out in England for while, but it's had a comeback in recent years thanks to American influence. It never died out in Scotland though, especially in some rural areas, where you could hear it occasionally. It was practically unheard of in England thirty years ago.
Few actors can delight, frustrate, and confound me more than Kevin Costner.

Warren Beatty
Daryl Hannah
Dustin Hoffman
Demi Moore
Rick Moranis
Moranis decided to leave the biz. Dude appeared in every goddamn movie that was released in the 80s. He'd earned the break, and didn't need the money
Beatty's nearly 80, and Hoffman's already over that age. They may not be interested in getting up at 7 in the morning to shoot a scene, or staying up past 10 to do likewise
Hannah became more interested in being an eco-warrior than acting
As Demi Moore's looks have faded, her absence of range as an actress has finally become a hinderance
@@MechaJutaro I know all that, but they would still make good subjects.
@@beethovensfidelio They'd probably all make for happier subjects also, when compared to questions like "What happened to Natasha Henstridge, the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, and Richard Greico?"

And there are some films movies where he convincingly plays someone else, but the majority of his films, your watching Kevin Costner play Kevin Costner playing a character. If that makes any sense.... He could play Abraham Lincoln in a movie, but it would be Kevin Costner playing himself dressed as Abraham Lincoln.
I really like the way you put that. Reminds me of Jim Carrey. Every film he's in, it's not Jim Carrey playing a character, it's a character playing Jim Carrey. Difference being that I actually like Kevin Costner
He is a horrible actor who makes fantastic films from time to time. Deadpan deliveries constantly that are not intended as such. Its really pathetic and bizarre
and HOW DO MORE PEOPLE NOT SEE THIS? I be taking crazy pills?
'Dragonfly' deserved a mention, it's a poweful movie and he was powerful in it!
Although it’s a long forgotten movie now. I really liked “American Flyers “ as a kid . I remember my best friend and I pretending to train like in the movie 😂.
Kevin Costner’s Underrated Films IMO 3000 Miles To Graceland, The Postman, Wyatt Earp, Water World, Play It To Bone, Revenge, The Guardian, Mr. Brooks, & Criminal 2016
I remember that Simpsons episode when Lisa Simpson was in the mall and they had a big screen picture of Kevin Costner's movie The Postman. And Lisa Simpson was like oh Mister Costner he tries so hard. And then Kevin Costner step from behind the screen was like thinks. Lisa was like Mister Costner why do you make such crappy movies. He was like yeah I don't know what I was thinking, a man walking around America with a bag of mail. Then he was like you do like Field of Dreams didn't you, made you believe again.🤣🤣🤣
i have never been a cowboy/western genre films, but i can say that YELLOWSTONE is a fantastic series.
Fantastic delivery
Thank you mister postman
I love that movie
WTF, The Postman is still one of my favorite movies!
"Field of Dreams" was a well good film... One should be done about football.

I loved him in Robin Hood Prince of Thieves and Message in a Bottle.
I LOVE Goodfellas but Dances with Wolves is the better movie.
Totally agree with you, I love both movies but Dances With Wolves deserved all of the awards, also the soundtrack is outstanding too.
Agree with you
Between Kevin Costner's accent, and Bryan Adams Everything I Do I Do Itt For You, Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves give me,a Brit, nightmares.
men in tights is the best robin hood

Kevin was perhaps the biggest star in early 90s to mid 90s
