ZOOM Q2N 4K recording sound from mixer ZOOM LIVETRAK

- This week I put the ZOOM Q2n-4K to the test. This was used to record this entire video with all of the audio going through the mixer ZOOM LIVETRAK L-8 then to the 1/8" TRS input of the Q2n-4k.
The sound is amazing I didn't have to do anything to the sound. The video was edited after I show you the original video then the edited video.
My conclusions for this little jewel is at the end of the video.

This is a great channel Deb, congrats!! Very clear explanations, with all due respect I love you!!! Your explanations are making things easier for me with the L-8. I use a Zoom Q8 and based on your explanations. I use its 2 inputs to 2 headphones inputs in the L-8 (both are mono)

Great video…..Question, instead of using cable 1/4” TRS to 1/8” TRS. Can I use cable Hosa HMP-006Y Rean 3.5 TRS to Dual 1/4” TS Pro Stereo breakout cable, 6’ cable length ? Will this work for recording videos. Appreciate your advice. Thank you.
Yes you can use one stereo/TRS to 2 mono/TS
Hello Deb. Your passion for music shows in your videos. This video shows the Zoom Q2n 4k recording the mix from the LiveTrak. I wonder if the LiveTrak is recording the separate channels at the same time. If so, it seems that you could later do editing of those tracks, then perhaps over dubbing the recording on the Zoom video recorder? With the portability of Q2n 4k and the LiveTrak L8, it seems one would not need the Zoom portable recorders such as the H5?
You can record separate tracks as you are recording with the Q2n. I will record a “scratch track” then go back edit/mix what I want then record the final vocals and guitar on the L-8 as I record them on the Q2n. Vocals are incredibly hard to match up so I like to record them on the final video take. Not always but usually. There is a slight feed back from guitar that is not noticeable when it’s all mixed. The LIVETRAK L-8 records each track as a separate .wav files. The Q2n records 1 stereo track audio with the video through the mic input or the onboard mics. Mic plug in disables the onboard mics.

Amazon thought I might be interested in Q2n and Q8 and they weren't wrong! I discovered your channel while looking for more info about them. I was wondering if the Q2n was capable of recording 4 tracks of audio like my Zoom H4n: 2 channels from the on board mics and 2 more via the 1\8" External In. Thanks!
The Q8n will be able to record the 4 tracks for you. Once you use the 1/8 input on the Q2n it disables the onboard mics.
I own one but if I want to share file as recorded video its loosing audio from the video is just dead video no sound how to fix it ?
you could have a few issues. I would start with a new class 10 or higher SDCARD, do a factory reset and firmware update (pg 54 & 56 of manual).
Check the recording volume and settings, try monitoring sound with headphones.
Below are steps from manual.
There is no sound or it is very quiet
• Check the connections with connected devices and their volume settings.
• Confirm that the output volume is not set low.
Recorded sound cannot be heard or is very quiet
• Check the recording level setting. ( “Adjusting recording levels” on page 21)
• If a CD player or other device is connected to an input jack, raise the output level of that device.
Recording audio/video is not possible
• Checked the remaining recordable time on the Recording Screen. ( “Recording Screen overview” on page 16)
A “Low Speed Card!” warning appears frequently/Stopping recording takes a very
long time
• microSD cards can become worn out. Speed can decrease after repeated writing and erasing.
• Formatting the card with the might improve this. ( “Formatting microSD cards” on page 53)
• If formatting a microSD card does not improve this, we recommend replacing the card. Please check the

Yes there is a sound when I play for example drum cover I can hear my self and track in headphones and I can replay then on my phone or computer but when it comes to send file to some one it got sound missing completely but I will try use new SD card to

Hi Deb, i have been trying to connect my q2n4k with dynamic mic using ext in slot..but i couldnt hear the sound, even after i record and try to play it i cant still hear it..is there any setting i miss out? Im using dynamic mic connect with xlr to 3.5mm connect to Q2n4k…
Not too sure about XLR to 3.5mm.

Not that I’m aware of. When you engage the plug-in the mics are disabled.
Hi Deb....I'm thinking of buying this to record my live performances., and I'm particularly interested now that I have seen you hook it up to your mixer for the sound out of it.
Just a few questions..... 1 Do I need to buy anything in addition to what comes in the box, I don't mean the adapter you use of course, but maybe an SD card?.. and 2... Have you tried it yourself, with just the room sound itself and not plugged into the mixer?
I'm asking this because I want to get the room sound from the speakers, and a bit of the crowd.

I always upgrade the sd card. To capture life audience you could use mic into mixer pointed towards crowd as using the input on camera disables onboard mic.

You can hear the output 1/8” of the Q2n into any input (mixer, speaker) with proper cable adapters. With powered speakers you would need this adapter amzn.to/3CsMbm6
I was using a Tip Sleeve cable Stereo L/R to 3.5mm TRS to run out of my board (IEM Mix) to get a signal. to the Zoom Q2N it was very distorted :( I'll try TRS on the 1/4 inch side and see if that makes it better.

What is your gain set to on the camera itself?
Using the input disables the onboard mics. With any recording mic/device I will set the gain until it barely begins to peek then back down a hair.
