    why are my batteries still dying when its plugged by usb cable to the power source?!

    • @RedeyePerc
      @RedeyePerc  4 роки тому +5

      Check that it is actually plugged in tightly. I had to return one because the USB jack was too loose. If it's plugged in correctly, the battery icon on the back display will disappear. If you see the battery, you aren't plugged in all the way. It's yet another issue with this thing.

      First of all great video Redeye! Good tips. To Zordan - I just got one of these but I'm guessing the reason the batteries don't charge while in the unit is because it is not designed to do that. You need to buy a chargers specific to charging your battery type. Guessing.

    Great review, very helpful that you provided an example of your banding playing. My band is playing in a week and 1/2 and I needed to make sure that I not only got the right camera (Q2n-4K) but the right power set up and memory card! Gonna go with the USB power bank and card from the Zoom list of compatible ones. Thanks for saving me the hassle of figuring this shit out myself! Keep rockin' Shane....

    A MagSafe style adapter for mini USB saved the charging port on my cameras several times when I stepped on the cord. Instead of stripping out the charging port, the magnetic sync cable simply just disconnected with no damage. I found some magnetic sync cables on eBay. Well worth the extra cost!

    I just got the 4k version, it comes with the hood! I’m glad it did. The hood also now clicks in. It did not come with batteries though. The box listed batteries among the contents but then there was a sticker added to the box that said “batteries not included” lol

    Hey - thanks for your video and for highlighting some of the diffs - I've also done a review of this unit on my channel along with samples and, like you, I was getting no more than an hour on a set of batteries. I then got some rechargeable Panasonic Eneloop Pros from Amazon and I'm now getting well over 4 hours solid recording time per set - it's made the camera totally usable again and with no need for external connections, etc. Best wishes, Darren

    Thanks for calling Zoom out and doing these videos. Seems like the battery and lens problem are enough so that it requires a certain situation to use the camera correctly. Doing live performances requires that the camera should work in any possible situation. With without tripod, dark, loud, no ac source should all be considered in terms of this type of camera being useful. Staying with my Sony Action cam

      That's not a bad plan. The big benefit with this camera is the audio, which is very good. I'm willing to deal with the other issues only because it was so inexpensive. In the end, they could have done way better though. Maybe the next version will fix all these issues.

    FYI - SD cards that are used over and over rewrite constantly, which fragments the card. So replacing the card every now and then is necessary. You can format it a few times, but these cards won't last forever.

    Thanks! Got my Q2N last month and have been using it to shoot guitar covers, love the sound quality, but have started getting that lens flare. Didn't notice it until last week when I used backlighting with the overhead and it was glaring. Now when I watch older videos I see it was there just not as pronounced or I just wasn't looking for it. Emailed Zoom, but the card trick should work for my home recording if they aren't accommodating. Good video!

    In the old days lense flare was ended by using a tripod with an umbrella attached. I use a Gibraltar clamp that holds it and the tripod anywhere.

  • @fretkillrlives
    @fretkillrlives 7 років тому +1

    I don't have time to read the other comments or bother with the Zoom support but the easiest solution to stop the lens flare caused by overhead lighting on the fish eye lens is to apply a small piece of black vinyl electrician's tape around the top of the lens housing. It only needs to be wide enough to block the light source from hitting the lens. A half-inch by one and one quarter inch piece does the trick and is easily attached and removed. When not in use I stick it on the bottom of the camera base. It works like a charm and costs nothing. Of course my brain power is priceless. Happy recording. - FK

    Hey I have a better idea for the Flare problem and it would look pro. If you're like me you have a couple of those goose-necked pop filter things kicking around. You know those things you use in studio to stop plosive sounds from getting into the a condenser mic. They attach to the stand and you can place them wherever you need to. They also look cool.

    • @RedeyePerc
      @RedeyePerc  7 років тому

    Sandisk has a fairly long warranty on their cards. Just make sure to hang on to the receipt so you have the purchase date. I make sure to have multiple cards. I don't always use the same one each time I record. This spreads out my total usage time over all cards, instead of putting most of the usage on only one.

      So true! If a musician or anybody has less than 10 SD, mini, or microSD cards then they are newbies... :P
      But, seriously, they are so handy and the prices have come down radically even compared to a year ago that your suggestion to use more than one memory card should be presumed common sense. MicroSD has become ubiquitous! I carry a couple in my wallet with their adapters for emergencies. I also carry a tiny USB adapter for my microSD cards on my keychain as well.

      I think the bigger problem is getting a fake SD card. It's very profitable for them since the card works most of the time and if the customer complains they just refund. When buying online choose reputable sellers like Amazon or B&H. This includes sellers within Amazon, I just stick with "sold by Amazon.com"

    Thanks for posting this video. A couple of questions for you or anyone else that can spare an opinion.
    I'm look for a camera (or several) to record my piano playing without mic. Yes, NO AUDIO needed. I am wired direct for my audio and have zero interest in a camera's audio ability.
    GoPro is not at all an option, since I've been using them for years and they are horrible. You mentioned this one shut down randomly with slow card errors, well, GoPro just stops recording with no reason why. Possibly the same issue. Like you, I upgraded several times and now have 4 Lexar 64GB Micro SDXC Cards. They cost me $89 ea back when I got them and were the best out.
    For the price, I'm thinking of getting the new Zoom Q2n 4k, though will most likely keep it at 1080 due to noise and if it's anything at all like the GoPro it will at least cut down on the insane number of errors each night.
    So again, can someone recommend a camera based on quality of video and not audio?
    Thanks!
    Dan

    Here's a WAY BIGGER problem you can add to your list: the camera just randomly stops recording! Memory card is empty, camera is plugged with USB power, everything is working perfectly, and then it just stops. Sometimes after 10 minutes, sometimes after 45 seconds. Very, very frustrating! If you can help in any way, I would appreciate it! Great video by the way!

      @RedeyePerc  6 років тому

      I can't say for sure, but your problem is most likely the memory card not being fast enough. I had the same problem. A card worked fine for a few months, then just stopped exactly like that. I have been using the latest SanDisk ultra fast card, and I have been fine lately. It's hugely frustrating, and Zoom is unlikely to help sadly.

    Awsome review.....very pleased you added the band performance at the dnd thru the mains,as thats what i was waiting for and how i would use it. Im a guitar player,however the typical problem with recording on a budget is capturing low bass/sub frequencies. Id be curious to know ur opinion on how it handles in that capacity. Im watching this thru an iphone,so i couldnt really hear in your video. Thanks!

      When I listen back with over the ear phones, there is plenty of bass response for my tastes (I've had to EQ some out in some cases). I think it accurately reproduces what I hear live. Through ear buds, the bass is lacking a bit. I have had great luck with this and my live band. Thanks for watching!

      Just got my Q2n today ...can't wait to use it!
      It basically comes with two AA batts, The little sleeve it comes in is junky and not really sufficient for storage given the bulby lens ...I'm thinking of ordering the accessory pack APQ-2n, as the hard case seems like a worthy investment, along with lens hood and mic handle extension ...although I will feel terribly for whatever animal they sacrifice to make the wind screen :(

    I'VE GOT THE ANSWER!!!! All you need is Velcro Strips with an Adhesive Backing. As the lense sticks out about 1/8th of an inch, I put a narrow strip of the fuzzy stuff completely around the lens of mine. Then using a plastic lid of a container (preferably black), I cut it to the shape of the letter D, creating a shade similar to those on Traffic Signals. Apply a strip of prickly Velcro to the flat edge, and it attaches to the lens firmly, and stays in place until you remove it!

      Thanks! I am going to lose the lens hood eventually since it barely stays on. Such a piss-poor design.

    I'm very new to this whole Zoom camera world, I just bought this Q2n gadget &It didn't even come with batteries, Only had the lens cap &that rainbow blocker thingy..
    I'm also from Australia, this was just under $500 on Ebay, i feel prety ripped off. Is there an App etc for our phones that can take filmed content to then upload straight to Socialmedia?

    Thanks for posting these reviews, it has really helped.
    Recently purchased 2 of these... brand new SD cards formatted, using the external battery pack... just noticed that the unit stops and restarts recording once the current recording reaches 3.69gb. Recorded three sets of music last night, should have three separate video files...I have 9. Each time the memory hit 3.69, it stopped and restarted recording. Anybody else experience this?

      Rhythm Rockets - I recorded a 45 minute school musical yesterday and wound up with 3 3gb+ files myself. I just threw them into Quick Time Pro (Windows 10) one after another and they blended seamlessly. After cutting a bit from the front and back ends I had a 9.47gb file. My older Zoom Q3HD did this also.

    • @RedeyePerc
      @RedeyePerc  7 років тому +2

      That's normal operation. You have to re-combine them in an editing program later, and the cut should be seamless. GoPros do the same thing around 1.97 GB. It's something to do with the write speed to the card and if they didn't generate several files, you could loose the entire thing.

      I was concerened about this also, and found a comment in the Zoom manual or on line that this is done automatically to prevent file corruption from getting too large.

    Thanks for this helpful video. The biggest annoyance I encounter with mine is the flat lighting result--just not enough contrast (my cheap LG Android is much better in that regard--brighter and more crisp as well visually). I do lots of indoor videos and use the low-lit setting. But I've seen your other videos as well, and perhaps "auto" or "garage" setting would be best--they appeared the lightest with the most natural contrast. Sometimes I will use a bit of extra lighting to compensate, but the results still appear flat to my eyes and not enough contrast. It's very frustrating, because the audio is wonderful and rich, but I wish the visual was crisper and brighter. Any suggestions for me? Best wishes.

    Thanks for your video. Im going to ask them for the lens hood. I encouter another problem. When you give a recording another name than ZOOM.....mov. It won' t show up in the camera anymore. It will show up on a computer but if you want to show a video using HDMI and a tvset it looks like that is impossible with renamed files. It looks like that fact that the camera only can read one kind of file-extension.

    Thanks so much Shane for the information. I am just wondering if you can record drums using the camera audio and have the phone audio (eg, song you are playing to), record to the zoom Q2n via the jack input? The manual doesn't answer whether it can do this. Looking for a way to review my song practice without having to record audio separately and then sync to video. Peace and thanks again. Gracie

      Thanks for watching and for the support! I’m pretty sure when you plug into the jack input it overrides the mic and records that source only. Zoom has a couple more camera that will do what you want. Look at the Q8. It has the mic pair and 2 separate inputs.

So, when I synced up my Q2n with the "Video Capture Device" on OBS, my camera on my my Q2n for some reason is not working, as it is just showing the "Q2n" label with blackscree on my webcam.
