Being in the underwater world has always relaxed me, centred me, made the chattering thoughts and doubts quieten and given me small moments of peace. I've done breath holding since I was a kid (I'm 48 now) but am doing my first freediving course this year because I want to hold longer and safer and make those moments of peace longer, and make some positive changes to my lifestyle! Thank you for your videos and helping educate about this wonderful sport!
I absolutely agree with your philosophy of the freedive. This is the cure for my life for real I’m really stressed sometimes and really busy every day. Sometimes I have to skip practice because of work or something else pops up. But when I get to the pool, or lake or sea I feel relieved. I forget that there was a bad day, that I have to do something next day or anything that brings up stress. When I do my dive I don’t have any connection with my every day me. I’m 💯 just for myself, clear mind, pleasant. That’s amazing how this sports affect soul. It’s taking away negativity and peace out the mind. Great video Gert! All best man 🤘
Gert Leroy - Master Freediving you know, I just did 2 PB lately without any kind of practice for couple months. (Bad food, long hours, stress) I think you would be surprised of your performance if you compete it doesn’t disappear that fast I think 😊 We are thinking to come with club from Sweden to that competition, would be cool if you come man 😃💪
I am definitely lost, at 42 I've started questioning my existence more than ever. I have however booked my first freediving course and is privileged to do the course with 2 gents that hold a total of 6 South African records in freediving. Thanks for the great videos, I'm slowly working my way through watching every single one of your videos and making mental notes as I go along. Keep up the great content 👌👊🏼👊🏼
Freediving is only an extension of swimming (I’ve heard it described as swimming in 3 dimensions!) or to put it another way, to be aquatic. We live on a planet that’s surface is 71% water so if you don’t learn how to be on/in/under water you will only ever be able to experience 29% of the surface of the world we live on. Just as learning to walk, run and climb allows us to explore cities, forests and mountains, being aquatic (swimming & diving) allows us to explore the seas and oceans. Through doing and experiencing these things we can better understand ourselves and our true natures. We are by nature amphibious beings. We’re aquatic, as well as a terrestrial species (there is no other mammal better developed at existing on both land and water). The ability to be in or under water safely should be a fundamental right and skill made available to anyone living on this blue planet. It’s as important as giving children the opportunity to learn how to read and right. Perhaps even more so.
Also freediving is a very primitive (in a good way) survival skill. For thousands of years our ancestors who could hold their breath and descend to the ocean floor would have had access to resources others could only dream of. Even in our modern day, while the supermarket struggles to keep food on the shelves, we can always go to the sea to put food on our plates! Great vid
This practice really bring me beyond time and space, it bring me to the elegant present moment. Until the contractions begin, but the contractions teachers me to trust myself too. I am still new in this practice but it really inspiring me to continue forward. Thnx Gert see you soon!
It's been a while too that I've been thinking what is my purpose, I have never notice since in my childhood that I am a part of nature particularly with the ocean and how much it brings excitement to me. I often dream about fishing and diving, literally and wandering beneath the big blue. Until this recently I found my passion. I profoundly agree that freediving will offer you tranquility. I am glad to know that I found my purpose not too late that I still have the energy and time. Thank you so much Gert for sharing this incredible video, you inspire me a lot. Thank you so much 💕 I just started to learn freediving by watching vids on UA-cam and joining some freediving groups on Facebook. I am looking forward to your vids to learn more. 💕😊
My n°1 reason is: because it feels damn good. Yes there is also the hard part (which you also choose to avoid), but not so many sports are actually so enjoyable while doing a performance. 😌 Reason #2 is that it will influence positively your lifestyle. 👌💪
How do I feel now as well at the age of 44? Through many losses in different areas of life, I have created some survival skills through the philosophy of Albert Camus and meditation. I work in the funeral industry and know that life does not follow plans and is beyond control. Even the shirts in my wardrobe, sorted by colour, don't help :D Under water, I am already a scuba diver. I have not given much thought to freediving. Recently I had an experience in a diving tower. I saw a freediver on the bottom of the dive tower, just above the bottom with his legs bent as if he was meditating. Eventually he detached himself from the bottom and floated towards me, past me towards the surface. It was a moving experience. I am looking forward to learning freediving now.
