    I just wanna point out:
    The Manchus came south from Manchuria and conquered the Ming Dynasty
    The Ming fled to Taiwan
    The communists came south from Manchuria (in this part of the war) and conquered the Kuomintang
    The Kuomintang then fled to Taiwan

    You should make the video back from the year 1945. At this state from 1947, although KMT controlled a larger area of China, the result of the war is almost determined, since CCP had better control of the Northeast (Manchuria) which had at the time more than 80% of heavy industry of mainland China. As one knows, modern wars rely largely on the amount of heavy industry production which manufactures weapons and ammunition for the war. Furthermore, Chinese people in Manchuria are almost all immigrant from internal provinces since late 19 century and therefore easier to be mobilized for a war (in motivating the farmers in Manchuria CCP is far more better than KMT, that is key point. CCPmanaged to appoint many local Manchuria people to work for them in the government, but KMT just sent some bureaucrat from south part of China who are not familiar with Manchuria.) Lacking of economic supplies, the area and military of KMT in Manchuria soon got shrinked and isolated in several big cities like Shenyang and Changchun and could not escape and finally surrendered) Then everything is done by CCP easily from Manchuria to the South just like Jin conquered North Song and Qing conquered Ming several hundred years ago.

    Before Kuomintang started this war, Kuomintang had more than 5m soldiers, with much superior weapons, air forces, navy from US and better economy. However, Communists only had 1m soldiers (mostly are militiaman) , with terrible supply (1 gun for 3 soldiers) and no air forces and navy at all. Why Communists still won this war? The answer is people chose Communists in that time. No one knows what will happened after communists took over China, but in that time, Kuomintang was as bad as hell.

      Actually, people in China have an abysmal standard of living and people in Taiwan are rich and live at the level of Germans or French; much like what happened with North and South Korea; and today, China is, for all intents and purposes, a Capitalist country. Additionally, America and Capitalism won the Cold War while the Soviet Union disintegrated and Socialism caused MILLIONS to die and failed miserably; just as it has failed in every country it has been attempted on, including Cuba, Somalia, Rumania, Venezuela, East Germany, Albania, Yugoslavia, North Korea and many others. INCLUDING CHINA.

    Kuomintang had everything it needs to win this civil war. But it's army's fighting capability in terms of morale and leadership is just not up to part. Gonna admit though, communists have its way of winning wars, the fact they didn't lose the Korean war is just a simple proof.

    • @fkostyuk
      @fkostyuk 5 років тому +10

      The key difference was that KMT didnt have centralized command of its army, leaving it up to "loyal" warlords. Yes Chiang had an elite force trained by Germans but it was destroyed by the Japanese in Nanjing. Wherever Mao went, the main condition was that he got centralized command of the armies, any warlord that offered to join the communists had to give up command of the armies etc. Looking at this map in a strategy video game mindset will make you wonder how KMT lost if they controlled so much more territory. The problem was that most of KMT's territory was controlled by warlords who only cared about defending their "feud", it was near impossible to organize them into a centralized fighting force against communists.

And before you state your own opinion like a lot of people already did, please inform yourself about Chinas history from the late 1800s when the british first invaded China to the point where the actual civil war takes place. There are a lots of things to learn before you are actually able to form a valid opinion on this topic.

      I have done the research and I think you're wrong. Here's why:
      - The Nationalists weren't communists (duh) so they wouldn't have committed the a Great Leap Forward (collectivization) or the Cultural Revolution.
      - Taiwan eventually became a democracy, even though Chiang ruled there for decades. It isn't impossible mainland China would have as well.
      - Chiang could have been replaced with someone more competent. Mao had a cult of personality that made this impossible.

      What you need to know is that in the early days of the Civil War, the Kuomintang army had four times the number of the Communist Party. The Kuomintang had a large number of American weapons and Japanese equipment, and it also controlled three-quarters of China's population. The Communist Party only has an advantage in popular sentiment and tactics.

    • @wjbqmzl4223

      Not really the case if you truly look into it. KMT had huge army, some of them are elite veterans equiped with American weapons including tanks, planes, automatic weapons. Weaker KMT troops seized most of the Japanese equipment and they were fully equipped. While the CCP have lower number, less control area, not enough weapon overall. The failure of KMT cannot just be explained by the military failure, because their collapse was built from years of bad ruling.

    So when those young soldiers finally get home after 38 years(1987)...most of their homelands and families were vanished, parents and siblings died when they were in TW, and with no connection no one knew whether their families were still alive or not. Lots of man knew their parents died when they first went home after 38 years, like my grandpa, left his parents at 17 as a teenager, first time went back home at 57 as a grandfather. Every time he went back home when he visited the cemetery, he bent the knee and cried heavily, cuz he felt guilty he ever had the chance to take care of his parents. It was a tragedy history

    From a glance it would appear that too much effort and energy was spent holding on to pockets of resistance deep inside Communist held areas. While symbolic, it ultimately exhausted the Chinese government forces and precipitated the quick collapse of their forces elsewhere in the country within the few short months of 1949.
    If more effort was placed on consolidating their defences in areas where they still had generally undisputed control from 1945 - 1948 (generally south of the Yangzi River), they could have held out and probably stabilised the lines of control along that river eventually before forcing a diplomatic and political solution.

    KMT spent way too much energy trying to defend encircled pockets in the north instead of withdrawing and focusing on building up the south or even just fortifying the Yangtze River. Mao was a pretty good military leader. But he was ass at ruling a country in peacetime, if he died on the eve of unification and handed it all over to Zhou Enlai the PRC would be way better off than it is today.

    During the Chinese civil war, was President Truman and many other US political & military leaders aware of the corruption and the unpopularity of the KMT government?
    Also did the US tried to provide some aid to the KMT government?

    • @dontran391
      @dontran391 Рік тому +1

      US Government only provide aid to the KMT DURING WW2 when they fought against Japan. But that was basically it. After WW2 in 1946-1950, the US Government were primarily focus on War Reparations & Reconstruction Projects in Europe (especially the case with the split Germanys of East & West Germany) & Asia was practically neglected from 1946-1950. It was not until KMT retreated to Taiwan in 1950 that the US Government started to become aware of Communist spread in Asia that they started to get involved. First with former Imperial Japan in 1950, they saw Communist Buildup & of course the Korean War. That's where they came up with the term "Domino Effect" when they noticed the KMT retreated to Taiwan, combined with Tibet falls, & Korea about to fall to communism.

    • @kasunex1772
      @kasunex1772 Рік тому

      They were aware. Truman was actually pretty on the fence about supporting the KMT because of the corruption and because many in the United States naively believed the CCP to be communist in name only. If the United States had backed the KMT unconditionally, they probably would have won.
      The corruption in the KMT was more a result of post war instability anyhow. It would have been rooted out in time.

    It's also a bummer for the KMT. During the Inter War years in the 1930-1940, the KMT did received a lot of equipment from Nazi Germany from that Sino-German Cooperation of 1930-1940 (hence, why you did saw some of the KMT soldiers were wearing Wehrmacht Stalhelms helmets & were using Wehrmacht arms like the Mauser guns). If the German Tiger series tanks were produced in 1930-1940 (instead of the actual years of 1941-1945), then maybe the KMT might acquired some King Tigers, Tiger 1s & Panthers in their tank battalion, which could give the KMT a HUGE ADVTANTAGE over the Imperial Japanese during their war in 1938-1945 & would DEFINITELY be an advantage against the Communist China in 1946-1950.

I mean Chieng-Kai Shek used Press Gangs and kidnapping to recruit more people into the Nationalist Army, and the Nationalists were also authoritarian in nature, so for the Chinese choosing the side of the Commies wasn't a decision they have taken lightly because the Commies would promise land to the peasants whereas the Nationalists would give them back to the Warlords loyal to the Nationalists.

    Another well done product. some comments:1.warlords are not, technically speaking, errors. KMT had relatively weak control over some "cliques". 2. About some kids whining wrong side won the war or china is hell thing, that might be true, but KMT was a lot worse. The main reason they governed TW ok was because they did land reform as they have no connection to local gentry, with properties confiscated from Japan. They could never enact that in China. Chiang Chingguo tried to start some small & mild reformation in Shanghai, look at what happened. Had KMT won, I doubt China would be better now, if not hell. Partially because KMT was way way more corrupted. Whoever thinks KMT was better represents 0.1% of whole population, they forgot peasants are people. 3. Yes Taiwan and HK are better than mainland, and I can see HK has been going down ever since the takeover(Although I personally suspect it has more to do with gradual globalization of china if you look at big picture. Actually, Tw is a perfect example. This country's econ became stagnation ever since it embraced"democracy"). but a lot hker and twnese are just whiners. Nothing wrong with fighting for democracy, if only you can do it in a respectable, reasonable and practical way. Protest all day you want, see if cpc wil eventually bring tanks, or they just dont give a shit and stop giving economical and political privileges( = apply same policies to all other mainland cities, which they are doing right now) and let hk naturally decline and become nothing special eventually 4. youtube is a stupid place anyway, you can believe whatever you want without conducting any research.

For example, some key battles took place and caused the destruction or surrender of the several strongest armor spearhead and mechanized troops of KMT. There aren't big changes on the map when those battles take place, the important moves are most of the time almost invisible in the video. Still, it is a nice video to watch, but reading is still the better way to truly understand history if someone is interested.

      Tibetans would probably chose the KTM over the commies because the KMT actually respects culture

      @RogerwilcoFoxtrot Qing emperor is of Manchu origin so Qing is not a Chinese dynasty?
      Are you an idiot?
      How many non-Persian dynasties did Iran have?
      How many non-Hindu dynasties did India have?
      How many non-Anglo dynasties did England have?
      So why China is so different?
      Hongtaiji declared himself as the Chinese emperor and that's all, needless to mention Tibet itself was conquered by Han Chinese general Yue Zhongqi.
      Next time before barking sth non-sense, learn your own history first.
