    Thank you for another great review. I never smelt the older version, but I have 2 bottles of the 2016 version. I am sure they are not the same, but I am quite happy with the one I have. I bought them from a French website few months ago around 80 pounds each. Particularly dry down on my skin is so nice and classy. Green and mossy smell is very prominent.

    Scents of SOUTH JERSEY said it smells like Denim(the current version of Jules)does that sound about right? I never smell either but i bought alot of old school bottles because his channel(the perk of getting older is you can sport these classics)/STILL WAITING ON THE RAMSEY+SOSJ COLLAB....

      I never smelled the current version but Denim is proper leather chypre ... maybe both have the touches and aromatic touches... but to me they are different fragrances

      @@javy-81 I have both. To me Denim leans more towards Azzaro Pour Homme territory. It's darker & spicier than the Jules.
      Current Jules smells more green & vibrant. It leans more towards Lauder for men and ever so slightly Gucci Nobile, but the leather is noticeable still in Jules.

      @@javy-81 I do enjoy the Lauder quite a bit as it has a scent memory that reminds me of more traditional dressed up men in the 1980's. Spring & Fall time. I'm sure I've smelled something like it on one of my uncles or one of my dads friends in the late 80's/early 90's...
      I have 5 Cartier's: Pasha di Cartier EDT, Pasha di Cartier Parfum, Declaration Essence, Declaration D'Un Soir edt, & Cartier L' nvol EdP.
      Never smelled Santos, but likely that Pasha edt & Declaration Essence is in that wheelhouse. I adore Pasha edt.

    Hey brother Ram, haven't been watching for a while but you look great! Glad to see you're doing well. Never tried Jules but my interest is peaked. I couldn't agree more on the boys sweet amber fragrance trend and the lack of actually masculine dominant fragrances(or rather the lack of their use). You should do an EU trip, plenty of scents to share! Cheers!

    I have a mini of the vintage and a full bottle of the modern formulation. They basically are two different fragrances but I love them both. The vintage is a classic carnation leather oakmoss masculine and the modern is a beautiful 3D galbanum beast. Probably my favorite galbanum with the vintage Bandit.

    Admittedly, it can be challenging to verbalize one’s sensory impressions but there’s quite a bit of projection (in the psychological sense) going on in this review: ‘power’, ‘feels like a man in charge’, ‘when America had a manufacturing base’…these have nothing to do with the fragrance (I know you know that) and instead are purely contextual-to-Ramsey-in-2024 rhetorical flights of fancy that merely reflect certain notions of your (Ramsey’s) idea of ‘man’ and ‘the past’ and could be said of literally hundreds of fragrances from your collection, I surmise. But to be fair, and again as we all know and as you partially cite, most of the fragrance houses entertain this kind of image creation in their marketing. To add to what you say in your review, the 1980 Christian Dior publicity materials for Jules in my possession claim, and I quote, ‘A fragrance that is young at heart: a unique reflection of strength and vulnerability.’ Hmmm.
    In any case, with regards to the scent of vintage Jules, how can you not perceive the sage?? It’s perhaps the most notable aromatic element of the fragrance. It’s possible that your bottle(s) has lost some of its character. I would not characterize Jules as a green leather-as I gather that you more or less do-for it is definitely more of an aromatic fougere (a fairly wide category in the 70s/80s). Your inference about the ‘musk’ (so called) is a good one. The original CD publicity materials indeed state that Jules is a composition of ‘green and woody notes, of amber and musk’. As for the artemisia, while it’s there in Jules, a much better artemisia note can be found in 1991’s brilliant Romeo Gigli per Uomo. (And I too admire Memoir Man to bits.) I like vintage Jules quite a bit, but the Christian Dior imprimatur unquestionably (and falsely) elevates the market price. Meanwhile, something like the equally accomplished, in its own way, Charles Jourdan Un Homme, also from 1980 (nose: Francois Caron), goes largely overlooked.

      @RamseytheRam  2 місяці тому

      Oh don't worry Charles Jourdan Un Homme will also get a vintage Hall of Fame Review one day 🙃

    I have 3 small bottles of the original Jules that ive been using, it is very potent and exceptionally long lasting these were once part of airline gift packs, I also have 1 small full bottle of the original Eu Sauvage left from airline giveaways (had 3) . The original Sauvage has more depth and is superior to modern Sauvage in my opinion . I will make it a point to save 1 bottle and cut down on use as it looks like you cant get these anymore.
