I live in Kansas (USA). I want to try this one because one of my favorite fragrances in my collection is another by Duchafour - Timbuktu. And, I like that one because of the Mango note; I feel that sets it apart and keeps it from being simply oriental. That note is absolutely beautiful. And, the fragrance wears like absolutely nothing else that I own. I have high hopes for this fragrance, based on what you have said, and I hope that I get to try it out, very soon.
@Smelling Great Fragrance Reviews Good evening Sebastian, I don't want to miss out on the announcement of the winner for this giveaway. Are you waiting to announce the winner until the prize can be shipped? Thanks so much! Lisa
This is without a doubt my favorite fragrance by Bertrand Duchaufour. It's so unique because it cultivates the idea of what a Chypre fragrance smells like, making the Chypre tradition relevant again in modern perfumery. To me, it comes across as an umami scent as it seems to have everything to please the senses: it keeps bringing you back to the sweetness, the bitterness, and the saltiness from the animalistic notes. It is an unexpected journey, which I also find in Bogue's MEM with the novel take on lavender and the classy barbershop experience. I've only had a decant of Chypre Palatin, but I'd love the full experience of this masterpiece! Count me in 🙌 Peace and love from Denmark
I love this fragrance. Definitely an old school vibe and something I really enjoy wearing in the cooler/colder weather. IMHO, a mature masculine scent.
I've been in love in chypre fragrances ever since i first smelled Aroma Elixir on my mother, it's been her signature scent for over 30 years now. I am also absolutely in love with Antaeus and the thought of smelling the master of all chyphres and Duchafours MASTERPIECE excites me beyond belief. I can't really express how much I've been wanting to get a hold of this bottle, been saving upfor months now, but if I win it, then boy oh boy! :D As for the fragrance which develops unexpectedly on me, I have to say it Breath of God by Lush. I am absolutely in love with that fragrance (even though nobody else from my social circle is crazy about the scent) but what I love most about it is that every time I wear it, it smells different than the last time i wore it. I really can't tell if I had the same experience with it twice. It excites me to wear because I don't know what kind of an experience I'll have for the next two or three hours! (I'm from Croatia)
Bertrand duchaufour is my favourite perfumer , but I've not delved into mdci much so It's incredibly helpful to learn more about this from you 🙏 Plum being my favourite note , this sounds like a structure that utilises it in a different way than I've ever encountered. My most unique scent that differs from what I thought it would smell like is Amouage opus X, it smells like turpentine soaked flowers in a metallic vase set on fire. It was not what I was expecting 😂 but adore it. From Ireland. Stay safe everyone, take care 🙏🍀

I’m dying to try this one! I’m still not very familiar with Chypres. The fragrance that doesn’t smell as expected was El Born I was expecting a boozy and dark vanilla and I get on my skin straight in your face licorice. I’m in Mexico, but have an address in the USA. Thanks for the review Sebastian!
I got 50+ fragrances because of you, they'll go bad before I am done with a quarter of them and I still get them, would love to try this one though, a fan from Ireland :)
Great video. I'd love to try this one. Everything I've tried from Bertrand Duchaufour has been excellently composed. My most unique fragrance is probably Guerlain Encens Mythique. I'm normally not a fan of aldehydes, but the way this fragrance incorporates them just works. Located in California.
Hi, I’m from the US. I’ve sampled Chypre Palatain and I love it. Would love to win a bottle. A fragrance I own that did not smell the way I expected it to is Hand in Hand by Ramon Monegal. It’s a rose oud fragrance that smells unlike any rose oud fragrance I’ve ever tried!
I'm still super confused about what chypre smells like! The most unexpected scent I've encountered is Slow Explosions from Imaginary Authors - it's so interesting, hard to pin down the scent composition as it changes every thirty seconds! I won a giveaway two weeks ago, but would love to be entered into this one too if that's allowed! I'm in the USA. Thank you so much for your videos. I binge watch them about once a week ;)
Unexpected for me: Sergio Soldano "black" for men...a nice surprise, how comforting and enjoyable this 80s classic actually is...love the color and the bottle design of chypre Palatine...sound like a great fragrance for cozy moments in the winter to me.
The fragrance that smell different to what I expected: Cire Trudon Revolution. It's surprisingly green! Chypre Palatin: I love balsamic and musky fragrances, also the fact that the fragrance has prune and oakmoss/oakfoam. I have been intrigued to try this fragrance for YEARS. My country: Finland (EU)
Hi Sebastian, A Fragrance that I thought was going to smell different than it did was Guerlain Vetiver I expected more but what I got was a linear scent with low projection. I am intrigued by the basenotes Benzoin, Castoreum, Oakmoss,Leather, Everlasting flower absolute, Styrax, Tolu balm,Vanilla and I am fascinated to know how it smells in the dry down. Thanks a million from United Kingdom
An absolute masterpiece! One of the best openings ever! I have never smelled anything like this before. It’s in his own class. Vintage Timbuktu, vintage Memoir Man and Ambrarem same story!
What a fantastic sounding fragrance from one of my favorite noses. After this review, I'd love to get a bottle. It sounds lovely with the green, citrus open, floral and balsamic middle, and warm, sweet, amber base. I am huge fan of amber, oriental and chypre fragrances. This sounds right up my alley. I think the most surprising fragrance for me was Patchouly Indonesian from Farmacia Annunziata. I had never really smelled true patchouli before that and expected the warm, smooth, fragrant patchouli with vanilla. Haha, well, I got a powerful blast of metallic, camphorous, earthy, raw patchouli...and loved it. Now I'm hooked. I'm an American living and working in Taipei, Taiwan.
USA. The most interesting fragrance I own is zoologist Dodo. I love Fougeres and I think it's the most unique Fougere I ever smelled. Lately I've been interested in dipping into Chypres. Your description sounds like I would be head over heals for it. Thanks for the video!
1) Fragrance that doesn’t smell like I think: Knize Ten. The notes are all over the place, but the combination creates a somewhat dry sophisticated scent, with a bit of tart orange/caramelized amber, that’s enveloped in the most beautiful musky, powdery, incense cloud. There’s just nothing like it out there. 2) Why Chypre Palatine? I’ve been interested in chypres for a couple of months now, ever since I smelled a lovely chypre that my aunt was wearing (I can’t remember the name for the life of me); I also recently acquired Aventus (fruity chypre; gorgeous scent), and I absolutely love spicy oriental fragrances, so this sounds like something I’d really wanna get my hands on. 3) Location: USA
1- amouage interlude Woman took me by surprise . Complex Chypre that could fall into different categories. 2- I simply love Bertrand’s unique style of work & this Chypre sound like a masterpiece . Houston , Texas 🇺🇸
This has been on my lust list forever. Not even a sniff yet! I love labdanum, and chypres in general. I would have to say that Mitsouko was a surprise for me, a long time ago at the beginning of perfume love. I didn't know what to expect, it was a blind buy. What an eye-opener! I'm in the USA. Thanks for the draw.
My most unique fragrance is Jovoy's Incident Diplomatique, and was not what I was expecting at first but I have grown to love it. I bought MDCI's Chypre Palatin from their website but ended up giving it as a present and I did receive 5 small sample bottles with it and one of them was Chypre Palatin. I love the scent and think it's a masterpiece. Chypre-Siam smells similar in the opening, even better, but quickly dries down to a soapy scent. I am for California, USA.
I ordered samples of "Chypre palatin" and "Invasion barbare". I like both but would rather buy Invasion barbare. Chypre palatin has something soapy which I find dominant.
Would love to win a full bottle! I haven’t smelled Chypre Palatin but I blind bought Invasion Barbare which I adore! Looking forward to explore more of this house! My most unique fragrance is a sample and it’s African Leather from Memo Paris. I was expecting a completely different smell and I don’t pick much of the leather. I live in The Netherlands 🇳🇱
Chypre Palatin has been near the top of my test list for a bit now! I'd love to try it, I love the tolu balsam in Givenchy Gentleman EDP, and the galbanum in Zoologist Macaque so the amber + green mix sounds super interesting. For me the two most surprising unique fragrances I've sampled are Zoologist T. Rex and Squid, love them both. I'd love to enter the giveaway, I'm from Maryland, USA.
1) “ Fragrance that doesn’t smell like you think it's going to smells like” : Bogue Maai, also a chypre but very different from Chypre Palatin, more on the animalic side. Was a surprise to me 2) Why Chypre Palatine sounds great to you ? Chypre Palatin was not a love at first sniff. I think you need to be on the game for a while to appreciate it. I smelled it again one year later from a sample I had also from Jovoy and now I'm totally in love with it. It's creamy, floral and it goes through so many phases. 3) Country: UK Thanks for the giveaway, would be delighted to get it
Vierges et Toreros from Etat Libre D'orange is probably my most uniqe scent, the combination of an animalic leather and tubrose really threw me off at first, but it really grew on me. I would like to add Chypre Palatin to my collection because I love when fragrances bring seemingly dissonant notes and harmonise them, and from your review it seems Chypre Palatin does this wonderfully. Country: Canada
I would love a to find a Chypre that I really likë. I'm not a fan of barbershop fragrances, then I tried MDCI Invasion Barbare and it became one of my favorite fragrances. Luxurious and modern best barbershop I have and tried. Roja Parfums Diaghilev was the only fragrance that threw me off, not what I was expecting.
Hi! My most unique fragrance is Century from Odin New York. One of my first niche loves. Century is an amazing, soft oakmoss scent with a hint of bloodlike metallique edge. The brand is so underrated!
I've been wanting to get chypre Palatine and destroy its juice particles smashing them on the blades of my shoulders for a while now. Thanks to the contrapuntal duo at wafts from the lofts, they made me interested in the fragrance first. Enjoyed the review!
I haven't sample this fragrance yet but it is definitely a scent that I'll to try. Just recently I have fallen in love with Grey Dior, it is just surprising how good is the dry down in my skin. Commenting from Orlando, Fl.. thank you for the opportunity to enter this giveaway.
I wish I picked this up when I was in Jovoy Paris but ended getting others instead since I thought I’d be back before heading home because I was thinking of that bust and didn’t want to travel with it. Oh the best laid plans... oh well another reason to go back. It’s interesting that you mentioned Absolue Pour le Soir, since that was such a surprising fragrance and want to thank you for the push to try it. Oh what a love at first sniff, and it was a real surprise cause cumin isn’t something my wife loves, and she loves it when I wear it. Thanks for the opportunity Sebastian! I’m from Washington State and would love to finally add an MDCI to my collection.
interestingly enough, Baraonda by Nasimatto is a very boosy and woody fragrance yet the dried fruits really come out on my skin especially if i get warm. it becomes really waxy on me however it smells fantastic. Chypre Palatin interest me because i love the chypre category and how broad it is. id love to see how this one turns out
I'm still pretty new with fragrances, so I've loved watching a lot of your reviews to learn more. As far as the most unique smelling fragrance I've smelt so far, probably A Midsummer Dream by Roja, was the first fragrance I smelled where I was overly impressed with the quality of the smell, and being able to pick out how different things fit together in the fragrance. Chypre Palatin sounds interesting, don't have much experience with chypres but the one I have smelled (Hacivat) I absolutely love! Live in California, USA.
I just received a bottle of 30 year old Mitsouko Extrait in the maIl today- great timing! Amazing Scent! I’ve had a Chypre obsession these last few months and I’ve been really wanting to try Chypre Palatin, so this review is great timing. A perfume that was not what I expected was Comme des Garcon 2011 EDP. I picked up the last bottle from Twisted Lily recently and had no idea how it would really smell and even though the reviews are very good, the notes are very CDG-experimental. 2011 radically redefines the concept of perfume in a delightful way and makes it very wearable- an incredible perfume. The new addition of images of the perfume notes in your video reviews is a great idea BTW. Greetings from Saskatchewan, Canada!
Great review as usual, I came across chypre palatin last year and fell in love with it immediately, I love the sweet fruity opening and a riot of complexity simmering below. On me it stays pretty linear throughout the whole day which I happen to like. Great house, I happen to like La Belle Helene from the same house also. My most unique fragrance would have to be Erawan by Parfums Dusita, I love that dry hay note more pronounced but somewhat similar and longer lasting than Issara from the same house. Stay safe & best wishes from Ireland.
Wow does this sound intriguing! I understand what you mean about fragrances who have a ton of notes that don't seem to fit. Sometimes, when I take a break and come back after a few weeks, then I can figure out what they were saying (does the nose remember what it smelled and continues working on deciphering it). Honestly, Black Orchid by Tom Ford was like that for me when I first smelled it! I love the idea that there are so many flower notes in the heart. I LOVE the smell of Oakmoss! And a sweeter cyphre is actually what I was thinking I would like, watching your longer video from the other day all about Cyphres. Thanks for this giveaway opportunity!! Much appreciated! I live in New Hampshire USA!
I have to try MDCI, they have been in my radar quite a long time, but I never jump to them... I have only tried the new Chypre Palatin in harrods and its amazing. I would have liked to know how it smelled the vintage one. I also like bertrand duchaufour works. Spain
Unfortunately I couldn't sample it yet, but as an oriental lover and admirer of Monsieur Duchaufour's work, this perfume came together. The sculpt edition is one of my targeted holy grail. The most unique fragrances in my collection are Histoires de Parfums Fidelis, Tom Ford Black Orchid and Tank Battle by Gorilla Perfume. I live in Hungary.
I'd say the most unique fragrance I have in my collection is Etat Libre d'Orange Like This. Love the immortelle and pumpkin combo! I have sampled Chypre Palatin in the past and absolutely adored it; I thought it smelled truly opulent, even imperial, almost like it should be scenting the powdered neck of some count or countess of the Romanov court of early 19th century Moscow, in the best way possible. I always thought it'd be out of my price point. I'd love to win the giveaway and own this beauty! I'm located in Taiwan.
I've been meaning to try Chypre Palatin for a while now. I'm trying this soon now that I know about the amber. Pardon is my unique fragrance that is more than expected. I hear a lot about the chocolate, but I get an intense patchouli on skin. New Jersey, USA.
For me the fragrance that doesn't smell like you think it's going to smell like is Attaquer le Soleil Marquis de Sade by Etat Libre D'orange. It claims to be made up of only one note, Cistus Labdanum, which I have smelled many times, but the labdanum in this fragrance has a clarity and brightness which is quite different to the labdanum absolutes I have smelled. Chypre Palatin sounds intriguing because I love chypres, which this claims to be, but I also love sweet ambery fragrances which is how you describe it. I hail from Canada.
This one has been on my list for a while. I need to pull the trigger and purchase it! Bertrand is one my favorite perfumers. Thanks for the review, Sebastian!
Fruity chypre ... instantly got my attention. I love the smoky and sweet mix this has. The base notes of tolu and leather are exactly what I'm looking for. Really excited by this one, thank you for bringing to my attention. The scents that I own that make me think wow this is amazing and surprises me everytime are Prada Luna Rossa Black and Guerlain L'homme Ideal EDP. Both have a unique smell, luna rossa black has a subtle but calming smell that lasts for hours and l'homme ideal edp has the creamy nutty smell mixed with the cherry that is blended perfectly. I would love to enter the giveaway, best of luck everyone entering also. I'm from the UK.
Probably my most unique fragrance is Morah by Pryn Parfums. Never smelt anything like it, and the way it develops on the skin is just incredible! I've been dying to get Chypre Palatin after smelling it and trying it at Jovoy Paris. I'm a huge oakmoss fan, and therefore a lover of chypre fragrances, but that one is just like no other! Fingers crossed From Belgium (EU)
First I would like to thank you for the many videos on chypre fragrances, I've been trying to find out if I have any chypre fragrances in my small collection. The video with Dana was very informative and funny, she's a very smart lady! I was researching chypre fragrances on Fragrantica and they have it listed as a fruity chypre that rates very high. From your description of this fragrance I will have to try a sample soon. The most unexpected fragrance I've experienced is JPD Parfum, Oud Noir which was way more oudy than I thought it would be. Thanks again for the education on chypres and the giveaway! Texas, USA.
Black phantom is one that definitely doesn’t smell like how I first expected. I had a small sample of Chypre Palatin and loved it, would be thrilled to win a full bottle. I’m in NY.
The one fragrance that totally caught me off guard was Roja Dove Scandal Parfum Cologne. I was expecting a modern Fougere, but got a very dated and poor experience. I have been DYING to try this one though! I am a sucker for warm and cozy Ambers and old school chypres like 1978 Gucci Pour Homme. This sounds extremely interesting to me. I would like to be considered!
Dear Sebastian, A Fragrance I expected to smell a lot differently than it did was Guerlain Habit Rouge I expected more rose but got more spicy and powdery vibe. I am intrigued by the leather, Castoreum and styrax in this composition. Thanks from the United Kingdom
1.Fragance that doesn’t smells like you think its’ s going to smells like- I would have to say Enigma by Roja. Its amazing and has layers. When you smell it at first you get a coke vibe then it develops into one of the most enchanting fragrances ever made. 2. Why Chypre Palatine sounds great to you ? I'll be completely honest and admit I have smelled this before and it blew my mind. The scent changes throughout the longevity and everything just works. I don't have any chypre style fragrances in my collection and to me this is one of the most interesting I have ever tried. I am curious how everything really works in different situations. I've only had the pleasure to try this masterpiece once and would love a bottle of my own someday 3. My country- USA
Oh my god, it’s a dream to just smell Chypre Palatin. Absolutely head over heels to try it! Specially for the fact that I adore Hyacinth in perfumes and also, generally, its one of my favorite floral notes and, of course, chypre genre is a love for me. My friends call me “an old lady smelling” guy for fun of course, but I never mind it at all, actually I am happy about it, at least I wear scents non of them would ever wear.. Mitsouko is the unique fragrance that really surprises when it come to note listing. London, UK Thanks
United States Haven’t tried this type of fragrance yet. Loving the videos and channel. Instead of just a general review I really appreciate the teaching that goes into these videos. Thanks Sebastian.
My most surprising fragrance is Juicy Couture's Majestic Woods. It is super unique, dark & sexy, smells niche, and super expensive. Everybody is mind blown when they hear it's by Juicy. I'd love to win this! Hyacinth is my favorite floral, but I don't often find it in perfumes (I have a handful). Also, chypres, oriental musks, vanilla, benzoin are my exact cup of tea. So this sounds absolutely divine to me. Either way, I will be getting my nose on this. Thanks for giving one of us the opportunity to win this, Sebastian. Excellent review, as always. 💙
I’ve been wanting to get Chypre Palatin for a while now and after seeing your review on it, it may have to be the fragrance I save up for during this time of uncertainty. I’ve had a sample from Luckyscent in the past and went right through it... love the stuff. Very musky, floral, and vanillin all in one. A fragrance that I really enjoy which I wasn’t expecting based on the notes was Civet from Zoologist. I was expecting something very animalic, but it ended up being an incredibly smooth floral... very nice. Hope everyone stays safe! USA
My biggest surprise in a fragrance came with Roja's Elysium Parfum Cologne actually. I'd heard it was a mass appealing citrus ambergris type fragrance, but I didn't really see anyone talking about the vetiver in it. Im a huge fan of vetiver so as the vetiver started to sing off my skin as it dried down I was very pleasantly surprised. I'm just starting to get into Chypre style fragrances, I picked up Chypre Siam from Rogue Perfumery (which is incredible!) after hearing your praise for it and am now very interested in MDCI. I also live in the United States 👍
I love this fragrance. Once I tried a sample, I ordered a FB probably less than ten minutes later, I had to have it. It’s so special to me, and I’ve never smelled anything else quite like it.
Recently I sampled Santal 33 and expected a creamy sandalwood smell. It's recommended for that quite often. But I was greeted only by moldy leather and vetiver smell. No thanks... ;-) Haven't had the chance the smell anything from Parfums MDCI, but this one seems a really good start. Ambery and balsamic are right up my alley! So please enter me in the draw. I'm from Germany, EU.
My unique fragrance would have to be Akkad. The opening smells like orange dizziness to me but wrapped in amber. Chypre Palatin I have a sample of. It is more soapy in the beginning for me. Was interested ever since I saw the rating in the guide. I'm from Canada 🇨🇦😀
1. Serge Lutens Muscs Koublai Khan. I was shocked when I smelled this. Thought it would be a kind of wild musk, but the fecal note in it made me gag. 2. I’m a fan of old school fragrances and chypres, so would love to try this from MDCI. 3. I’m from Copenhagen in Denmark , Europe. Thank you, Sir.
What an amazing opportunity 🙏 I have been wanting to try this and invasion barbare, but here in 🇨🇦 they aren't easy to try unfortunately, as far as fragrances that shocked me 🤔 Frederic Malle Promise really threw me for a loop(in a great way) im not sure what I was expecting but it wasn't that. Fingers crossed Duchafour is one of my favorite perfumers so this would be pretty special.
Great review as always Sebastian! the fragrance that didn’t smell as I thought it would will have to be Musc Ravegeour by Frederic Malle. The clove heavy opening took me completely off guard. As far as why Chypre Palatin would be a fragrance that interests me is because I’ve been getting into the chypre genre of late and from everything I’ve seen and read about Chypre Palatin just seems that it’s one of those must sniff Chypres. The hype and love this gets is overwhelming and I would love to experience this for myself. Im from Queens, NY
One that throws me off the most in my collection is Unum Opus 1144, very mysterious but great! Would love the win this, I've been following the house for a bit and definitely want to get my first one. From US, thanks!
I tried this a couple times, it is definitely on my wish list. For a fragrance that threw me for a loop I´d have to say L´artisan Parfumeur Timbuktu surprised me on first sniff, I didn´t expect as much vetiver as there was, but it´s really beautiful.
I don't have much experience with chypre fragrances be interesting to try and expand my knowledge and experience new fragrances.sounds like something I would love to try
United states Fragrance that smelled different than I thought would be Burberry-London. Still new to the fragrance game so MDCI would be a great addition to my growing collection!
I heard others rave about this fragrance as well as Invasion Barbare from the brand... I love orientals and this peaked my interest because of Duchaufor (Jubilation 25 among other greatly blended, resinous scents) thought I've never sampled MDCI yet. I suppose a fragrance i'm familiar with, whose name doesn't match the drapes, is Beach Hut Man by Amouage. Sounds like it would be an aquatic scent, but it's actually one of the greenest Amouage frags rivaling the Figment line with realistic moss, mint, ivy and galbanum. Ends with fantastic woods. California Native here! I hope we can stay safe.
I recently managed to sample a small decant of Chypre Palatin. Glorious fragrance! I find some similarities between this one and Zoologist's Nightingale, strangely enough. I would love to win a full bottle since I enjoyed the decant so much! My most unique fragrance would have to be another by Zoologist - Macaque which smells very clean and green to me. Thank you from Canada!
Hmmm, this sounds so intriguing, all those floral notes, wow, would love to try this one, I love anything unusual and challenging, one fragrance I picked up on EBay is Lust from Lush, so powerful, intoxicating too, it demands your attention. My partner had a smidge of All about Adam left when we first met and I fell in love, with him and the Fragrance, AAA blew me away with how green it was and so tangy, I since found a bottle on EBay after years of searching, so happy I have a full bottle now. Great review by the way, I hope I get a chance to try this one. England.
I have tried a sample & really liked it. Although it is a little sweet It has so much more going on that i think it appeals to many people. The most surprising fragrance from what I was expecting was Roja Dove’s Diaghilev. I live in the U.S. and would like to win. Nice review. Thanks
Haven't tried it myself. That oak foam sounds weird...but the green qualities in the opening capture my attention. I've always been a fan of frags with chypre in the title. The juice colour does seem to fit the oriental profile though. But yeah, Duchaufour is a genius. Most unique / unexpected fragrance was probably Romance In Middlesex County from Barrister and Mann. If ever you feel like experiencing apricot from wonderland, give that one a try! Canada.
Unexpected fragrance for me was Dark lord by Kilian. When I looked at the notes, it made me think of something really masculine because of the vetiver and rum, but it wasn't like that at all. I've never tried anything from MDCI, but I've heard so many good reviews about the house, especially its Chypre Palatin. I would love to get my hands on it for I am an avid lover of oriental fragrances. I live in the US.
A fragrance that i own that doesn’t smell like what I expected it to is Imaginary Authors’ Memoirs of a Trespasser. I am interested in this bottle of Chypre Palatin because it is exalted in the fragrance groups that I follow and treated with such reverence. (Commenting from USA.)
Beautiful creation!!! Love it, love it, love it. Completely agree with you that its hardly a chypre as we know... more of the ambery bulsmic base with some fruits and flowers. Can't stop sniffing my wrist when I wear it. It's gives me 7-8 hr of longevity ... wish it's last a little longer.
Chypre Platin sounds simply amazing because I love balsamic, amber orientals. The perfume that tripped me up was Prada Pour homme Intense in difference to the PH version. Maybe a little like this. Thanks for the great review! Midwest, USA
would love to try it. My most unique fragrance would be Bortnikoff's Musk Khabib. I was really expecting something almost off the chart deep end funky, but nope just a beautiful scent. Germany. Stay healthy!
In order: 1) It is not a unique fragrance, but I like Prada L'Homme a lot (it reminds me of talcum powder and soap). I thought that the "intense" version would be just stronger, but its composition does not work on my skin. It smells rotten, I cannot deal with It. 2) I would like to try Chypre Palatin because its oriental and musky vibe, as you have pointed out. 3) Spain
Would love to try it. Sounds like my style of fragrance. My most unique fragrance that doesn't smell like notes listed is Roja Enigma and I love it. I'm in Norway
USA I love the sound of this one Sebastian. It sounds incredibly unique which is what I appreciate most in frags. I don't like smelling like the masses which is why I gravitate towards niche houses. Thanks for the review and giveaway. Cheers!
1. Portrait of a lady. Thought it was going to be too feminine for me but it's beautiful! 2. Had a small sample of chypre palatin and loved it. Reminded me a little of those soapy cherry lips sweets I had as a kid. Would love to own a bottle 3. UK
A perfume I own that smells quite different then what you'd expect and one of my favorites is MEM by Bogue Profumo. It changes in character often, smells experimental on a testing strip but remarkably accessible when wearing it. Chypre Palatin, I tested it and remember loving it in the store. I like that it has a classic structure but still remains modern and I also love the oriental aspect and I'd like to explore it further. I'd like to join the giveaway and I'm living in the Netherlands.
Fragrance that doesn’t smell like you would think...moonlight patchouli van cleef and arpels. This one interests me the minute you said warm oriental. USA!
This has been on my list for a while because of good reviews. Also I don’t have anything similar in my collection. Recently I have been more and more interested in classical fragrances or ones that are inspired by classics. A fragrance I could mention that didn’t smell like I expected is Beach Hut Man by Amouage. I live in Finland.
1. Davidoff the Game, haven't been in the fragrance game for long but it was so enjoyable in my early days. 2. The colour is amazing and it would be by far the most expensive fragrance I know. 3. UK - England.
Yes, a great perfume, one of my favorites from MDCI. And would adore snagging a bottle. So my most unexpectedly different fragrance? Probably Abaton Chinotto Dark. I thought, going by the name, it would be resinous, woodsy, spicy. Yet it comes off on me as being a bright, green, sweet piney scent that with a dash of a soft drink. Almost like an extraterrestrial cola. Not for everyone. Still I really enjoy it. Here in "stay-at-home" mode in Seattle. Mahalos!
The bottle art for CdG's Girl Pharrell Williams is whimsical and playful and I thought the juice would be the same. I was definitely wrong. It smells okay but if I smelled it before buying I would have pass on it. I got suckered in by the pretty packaging. I had not heard of MDCI Chypre Palatin prior to the Dana collab. The musk scents I own are on the cleaner side but Ive been want more. So the more animalic musk of Chypre Palatin appeals to me. Here in Shelter-in-place California.
1. Franck Muller - Conquistador When reading the notes, one could expect a heavy boozy vibe in this fragrance but it is subtly creamy leathery scent, quite unique imho. 2. I have a small decant. When I used it for the first time, it caught my wife's immediate attention. She was convinced, this was the scent she has constantly experienced and liked a lot in Hyatt Ararat Moscow. With that said, she has taken away this sample from me and is using it herself :-) 3. I'm living in Germany. Thank you, Sebastian!
The fragrance sounds so intriguing. The openings is sweet fruity From your review you make Chypre Platin sounds simply amazing because I like amber, orientals and balsamic. I think the most unique fragrance that doesn't smell the way you think that I have is Terrible Teddy by Penhaligon.I would love to try Chypre Palatin. USA
I'm curious to try MDCI as a brand in general. My most unique fragrance would probably have to be, psychedelic love from initio parfums the amount of sweetness i get from it is surprising. USA entry
If it's mossy, I'm interested. Unique? Well, Mark Buxton's Dark Angel was not what I expected, due to its name. It's citrusy with ginger, nice, but neither dark nor angelic. Mich USA

@Smelling Great Fragrance Reviews
Good evening Sebastian,
I don't want to miss out on the announcement of the winner for this giveaway. Are you waiting to announce the winner until the prize can be shipped? Thanks so much! Lisa
@@RonaldJapenga Unfortunately, I have no idea Ronald. Still waiting...
Bertrand duchaufour is my favourite perfumer , but I've not delved into mdci much so It's incredibly helpful to learn more about this from you 🙏
Plum being my favourite note , this sounds like a structure that utilises it in a different way than I've ever encountered.

I definitely love sweet and musky fragrances. I’ve sampled this months back and fell in love with it. I’m in California
Wow, the Pour Le Soir comparison is dead on! You’re one of my favorite reviewers!
I am intrigued by the basenotes
Benzoin, Castoreum, Oakmoss,Leather, Everlasting flower absolute, Styrax, Tolu balm,Vanilla and I am fascinated to know how it smells in the dry down.
I’d like to try this because it’s complex and the notes sound great. My most unusual smelling perfume is Tokyo Milk Arsenic. I’m here in California
Was a surprise to me
2) Why Chypre Palatine sounds great to you ? Chypre Palatin was not a love at first sniff. I think you need to be on the game for a while to appreciate it. I smelled it again one year later from a sample I had also from Jovoy and now I'm totally in love with it. It's creamy, floral and it goes through so many phases.
3) Country: UK
Thanks for the giveaway, would be delighted to get it
Vierges et Toreros from Etat Libre D'orange is probably my most uniqe scent, the combination of an animalic leather and tubrose really threw me off at first, but it really grew on me. I would like to add Chypre Palatin to my collection because I love when fragrances bring seemingly dissonant notes and harmonise them, and from your review it seems Chypre Palatin does this wonderfully. Country: Canada
I love MDCI, my favorite one is L'Homme aux Gants, it's my first niche purchase.
A wise woman knows the scent is everything.
It sets the mood the flavor and the ambiance. I am learning.
I desire a new experience.
I am in the USA
Amouage opus ix would be my pick. I've wanted chypre palatine for a while and it would be amazing to win it. Hialeah, FL.
Notice to all: March is officially Chypre month 😄
Fingers crossed
From Belgium (EU)
I've only had the pleasure to try this masterpiece once and would love a bottle of my own someday
London, UK
Thanks
United States
Haven’t tried this type of fragrance yet.
No thanks... ;-)
Haven't had the chance the smell anything from Parfums MDCI, but this one seems a really good start.
United states
Fragrance that smelled different than I thought would be Burberry-London. Still new to the fragrance game so MDCI would be a great addition to my growing collection!
Hello sebastian, is this new Chypree Palatin bottle worthy purchase ? Considering the reformulation of the newer edition.
Canada.
Just received a sample from Jovoy Mayfair. Such a different smell, beutiful crafted warm well balanced fragrance!! On my top list!
In order:
1) It is not a unique fragrance, but I like Prada L'Homme a lot (it reminds me of talcum powder and soap).
Loveable juice I have ever tried I got decant I have not bottle may insha'Allah I got chance to get it..

I love the sound of this one Sebastian.
Would love to own a bottle

1. Franck Muller - Conquistador
When reading the notes, one could expect a heavy boozy vibe in this fragrance but it is subtly creamy leathery scent, quite unique imho.
2. I have a small decant. When I used it for the first time, it caught my wife's immediate attention. She was convinced, this was the scent she has constantly experienced and liked a lot in Hyatt Ararat Moscow. With that said, she has taken away this sample from me and is using it herself :-)
3. I'm living in Germany.
Thank you, Sebastian!
The fragrance sounds so intriguing. The openings is sweet fruity
From your review you make Chypre Platin sounds simply amazing because I like amber, orientals and balsamic.
Mich USA
Oud wood intense is a favorite
I’d love to try that one. It sounds wonderful
I ordered a sample from luckyscent and I loved it. I will like to win this full bottle, from Lexington KY 🇺🇸
