@@electronicsNmore Thanks for the heads up. I do HVAC work, so I know my way around plumbing a enough to install this myself from working on boilers(and have access to wholesale pricing). I've never specifically done "plumbing" work like RO though.
Thanks for making a great video, you taught me so much. I can now tackle my own RO issue of low water output. Had just one question for you. I noticed you haven't any calcite filter between the final stage taste and odor filter and your sink faucet. I was always told that you need a calcite filter there to put back into your water some healthy minerals which also enhance the RO water taste. RO water taste is very bland normally because the system removes so much of the good minerals along with the bad. Love to hear any thoughts you have on this. Thanks again.
I get plenty of minerals from the food I eat. :-) Glad you enjoyed the video! I have a lot of excellent videos on my channel that cover many different subjects, so be sure to check out my extensive video playlists for other videos of interest to you, rate thumbs up, and share my channel with others. I think that mineral 'filter' also prevents the water from being too ionically 'hungry'. Like they say, never buy distilled water in a plastic container because it will leach plastic. I don't have one because i'm afraid it'd fill up my Keurig with calcium...but maybe i should anyway.
THANK YOU!!! I ordered a cheap RO system (under $100). It came with little to no instructions highlighting that it should be installed by a professional. It came with a roll of white tube, not the pretty color coded ones like other systems. I watched many RO installation videos, but knowing the why makes all the difference. Now that I know what does what, I can confidently install this puppy. It didnt come with a tap for the dirty water so off the I go to the hardware store. I have a plant room in the back of the house. I was thinking of splitting the RO feed, running a line through the attic (insulated no doubt) and into the back room to my reservior tank. Distance of about 50 feet. What are your thoughts. Will normal water pressure make the run?
You're welcome! I would run the line from the holding tank, rather than run the line to the holding tank. Thanks for watching and be sure to share my channel with others and watch my videos.
Very clear video - thank you. I have a problem still. My 5 stage RO system passes water directly to the drain. I have tested the auto shut-off valve as 'working'. The check valve once passes a slight amount of air in the correct directing. The tank fills with water - and water comes out the faucet. Water still goes to the drain. Do you have an an idea what could be wrong ? I have 5.1 Bar of mains water pressure.
You have any advice or information on how to retrofit a permeate pump into an existing system? Do you recommend their use to improve the efficiency and reduce water usage? Does the pressure shut off valve still get used when a permeate pump is installed? Thanks!

great video, thank you. I recently purchased a Davis and Shirtliff 6 stage under sink RO apparatus and I have just recently replaced the three filters. Straight after replacing the system I restarted the system instead of working normally it starts, stutters non-stop and pushes through a few drops of water with every stutter. Any idea what the problem might be?
Hello from Argentina. I have an RO filter with pump (6 step, mineralizer). I d like to know if i can install the equipment horizontally. I dont have the space under the sink to install it vertically. Can i have it layed down. Could it affect the operation? Thanks , great video!!

How do I buy you a beer!?! My RO system has been non stop running down the drain. Trying to figure it out and trouble shoot, changing the ASO to watch your video and find that the 90 degree elbows were mixed up coming off of the membrane. I just switched them so wish me luck that it's fixed.
Great video. One question: I have a 5 stage and it’s probably 8 months old. I checked our pressure at the outside faucet and we were about 40psi. While our RO faucet has plenty of pressure, I noticed pretty quickly that the drain line would run pretty regularly after or during using the faucet. Is this a low pressure issue or how the RO system works? Thanks!
When you drain water out of the tank, the pressure drops. The pressure drop turns on the flow of water into the RO membrane, and the waste water goes down the drain.
If your RO discharge waste water "during or after" using the RO facet, it would likely means that your RO storage tank air pressure is running low. Check tank air pressure. Pump it to between 7 and 8 psi. Tank air pressure low means tank is water is full while RO keeps trying to fill it thinking that it is empty even when it is not. Tank air pressure high means tank water is low but RO won't turn on to fill it thinking that it is full. Try lifting the tank. If the tank feels full while the RO keeps turning on at every use then the tank air pressure is either low or that the diaphragm is broken. If the tank feels empty while the RO turn on for just a few minutes then shut off, then the tank air pressure is too high.
Nice video. I just had a system similar to yours with only four states. I hear sound coming from the port of the faucet. Curious to know if this is normal like when I fill my coffee machine and the water supply drops in the system and then refills.
Yes, almost everything is removed from the water. You're better off using an RO system and eating healthy, or just add some minerals from a health food store to the RO water. Hello. Thanks for the video. Need help. When installing my system, when I turn the water began to flow from the drain pipe. This is normal, or have any harm on the tube, or even a broken part? Is this is normal to spend 2 to 4 hours of filling the tank?

Hi, cool video ;) i just installed "water express"5 stage system. did empty system twice before tasting first water out, seems still lot of particles in the water, smell gone but after testing with water tester same as you use in video, numbers are nearly same as directly from non filtered tap water of my home :( system is brand new, any suggestions ? Cheers.
Thanks just released after checking all, to membrane wasn't already fitted, as I bought with extra filters and some were already fitted, I thought all was fitted already lol you always learn from your mistakes small or big lol cheers for your follow up thow.
Glad you enjoyed the video! All you need to do is compare the TDS of the incoming water to the purified water. A good working membrane should drop the TDS by at least 80%. Check out the online calculator below. Scroll 1/2 way down the page: www.waterfiltersonline.com/tds-sources.asp

how much pressure should you have to use to blow through the check valve in the direction of water flow? I have a new ISpring RCC7, which I have had nothing but problems with. I was sent two new check valves. One of which, I could barely blow through in the direction it should be open. On the other, I could blow through it if I used very quick, short bursts that actually made my head hurt, and made my cheeks hurt like I was blowing into a trumpet or something. I don't know how hard you should have to blow through these check valves, but I think if I "tested" them too much, I might give myself an aneurysm.... I think this system I installed is pretty cheaply made....
+The Suburban Hippie Experimentalist Some valves can require some pressure to allow the flow. Just make sure it only works in one direction. You can also do what I did in the video when my check valve failed causing the water to run all the time.
At 13:05, when you blow through the check valve, should you get a smooth air coming out the other end? I blow through my check valve and I do feel air coming out the other end, but not strong air coming out comparing to the pressure that I'm blowing. When I blow from the other end where the pink ring is, no air is coming out the other end, so the check valve is working. I'm having very low water rate coming out of the check valve and I'm trying to figure out the problem.

Hi, I'm troubleshooting my RO. My problems may be two or threefold which makes troubleshooting really hard. I bought two of those restrictor valves. They are exactly like the ones in your video. I cannot blow through either of them like you instruct. I'm having a hard time completely believing I received TWO faulty units, AARRRGGGG!!!! Maybe there is a 'break in' period?
Yes sucking worked. . I got my 15 year old GE unit back in action today, woo hoo!!! BTW your video is excellent, better even than those whose authors are trying to peddle their parts.
HI Iam going to start a mineral water plant so we are using reverse osmosis in our manufacturing unit for filtration purpose what we will be the waste water coming from the RO system? what all contents it will be ? Is it harmful if we discharge into our land and will it goes to other bore well or well? , change their water quality ?
my ASO valve makes a high pitch metal grinding noise when running and stops when tank is full.is my ASO valve gone bad that need to be replaced.what causing it? pls. help.

How much pressure would you think is pushed out of the drain line? The house I bought has the under the sink style RO directly under the kitchen sink in the basement mounted on the wall half way up. The drain line has to go up about 10' to drain at the sinks plumbing. My water TDS readings are as if the RO is doing absolutely nothing. Could the drain line be backing up into the system, skewing my TDS readings? The system was plumbed wrong when I moved in, so I straightened all that out, sanitized, and got new filters. Still poor TDS results.
@@electronicsNmore I'm on a shared well in a subdivision, it's about 500 PPM. Only getting 480 after RO. I had bought a whole new system and just finished installing under the sink. About to turn water on and see what's what.
@@electronicsNmore I get better results from my Brita picher than the RO. So I'm just giving up on that unit. Just dumped the 2nd tank on new system, waiting for it to refill before testing TDS.
Low out put volume of water. How do I know it’s my pressure tank or membrane? First was thinking it was a bad tank. Left sink Faucet open till no water. Tank was heavy as if full of water. Took tank outside and opened the valve. Water came out for many minutes as if no issues. Picked tank up and shook. Felt empty and light. So now I am thinking it’s the membrane. Please educate me.
For the pressure tank, just drain out all the water and make sure the pressure is correct(6 to 8 psi). If you have low water production, then either your filter stages before the RO are clogged(especially the first filter connected to the water supply), or you need a new membrane. You can also try to backflush the RO membrane.
If the water pressure into your RO System is too low, then you'll need to purchase a "Boost Pump". If a flow restrictor is blocked, then your RO membrane will become clogged more easily and you'll also notice INCREASED TDS readings.

Must be brand new, or a faulty TDS meter. 😀 That's a great reduction!
Fantastic video it's solved my problem after changing out all 5 water filters on my ro system. cheers martin in Spain

I have 5.1 Bar of mains water pressure.
buddybeetle Either the auto shut off valve or check elbow needs to be replaced IF the system was correctly installed. Thanks for watching!
You have any advice or information on how to retrofit a permeate pump into an existing system? Do you recommend their use to improve the efficiency and reduce water usage?
Does the pressure shut off valve still get used when a permeate pump is installed?
Thanks!
I've never used one before.

great video, thank you.
Sounds like a lot of air in the line.
Hello from Argentina. I have an RO filter with pump (6 step, mineralizer). I d like to know if i can install the equipment horizontally. I dont have the space under the sink to install it vertically. Can i have it layed down. Could it affect the operation? Thanks , great video!!

Hi Andres. Installing the RO system horizontally is not a good idea. They are designed to be mounted vertically.

How do I buy you a beer!?! My RO system has been non stop running down the drain. Trying to figure it out and trouble shoot, changing the ASO to watch your video and find that the 90 degree elbows were mixed up coming off of the membrane. I just switched them so wish me luck that it's fixed.
I don't drink, but I do take Paypal donations to support the creation of new videos. Hope it works out for you. Thanks for watching!

so how long have u drinked that water and do you feel sick or tired? Some claims that ro water are bad for us? please share your toughts.
Hello Sir! Where do you buy your filters ? Thanks

Nice video. I just had a system similar to yours with only four states. I hear sound coming from the port of the faucet. Curious to know if this is normal like when I fill my coffee machine and the water supply drops in the system and then refills.
Once water has been taken out of the storage tank, the system will turn on to fill it back up. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the video :) my only question is, does this system filter out good minerals too ?
Yes, almost everything is removed from the water. You're better off using an RO system and eating healthy, or just add some minerals from a health food store to the RO water. Hello. Thanks for the video.
Need help. When installing my system, when I turn the water began to flow from the drain pipe. This is normal, or have any harm on the tube, or even a broken part? Is this is normal to spend 2 to 4 hours of filling the tank?
Very good video. What are your views on adding an Alkaline filter? I have heard very positive things about doing this.

Cheers.

Check all connections. You may have a line connected in the wrong place.
Thanks just released after checking all, to membrane wasn't already fitted, as I bought with extra filters and some were already fitted, I thought all was fitted already lol you always learn from your mistakes small or big lol cheers for your follow up thow.
Excellent tutorial. Thank you very much. If possible, can you show us how to use the formula to test for membrane efficiency? Thanks again.
Glad you enjoyed the video! All you need to do is compare the TDS of the incoming water to the purified water. A good working membrane should drop the TDS by at least 80%. Check out the online calculator below.

how much pressure should you have to use to blow through the check valve in the direction of water flow?
I have a new ISpring RCC7, which I have had nothing but problems with.
I was sent two new check valves. One of which, I could barely blow through in the direction it should be open.
On the other, I could blow through it if I used very quick, short bursts that actually made my head hurt, and made my cheeks hurt like I was blowing into a trumpet or something.
I don't know how hard you should have to blow through these check valves, but I think if I "tested" them too much, I might give myself an aneurysm....
I think this system I installed is pretty cheaply made....
+The Suburban Hippie Experimentalist
Some valves can require some pressure to allow the flow.
Awesome video

Hi, I'm troubleshooting my RO. My problems may be two or threefold which makes troubleshooting really hard. I bought two of those restrictor valves. They are exactly like the ones in your video. I cannot blow through either of them like you instruct. I'm having a hard time completely believing I received TWO faulty units, AARRRGGGG!!!! Maybe there is a 'break in' period?
Check valve? or flow restrictor?
Ooops..... Check valve.
Yes sucking worked. . I got my 15 year old GE unit back in action today, woo hoo!!! BTW your video is excellent, better even than those whose authors are trying to peddle their parts.
12:52 check valve, I can't understand why pressure would not build up anyway , if not running would it not build up pressure and close the shut off?
HI
Iam going to start a mineral water plant so we are using reverse osmosis in our manufacturing unit for filtration purpose
what we will be the waste water coming from the RO system?
what all contents it will be ?
Is it harmful if we discharge into our land and will it goes to other bore well or well? ,
change their water quality ?
Hello. The waste water is not a problem draining into the ground.
will it goes to other house well and any chance to change their TDS of their well ?
can you tell me what all things will be in the waste water
my ASO valve makes a high pitch metal grinding noise when running and stops when tank is full.is my ASO valve gone bad that need to be replaced.what causing it? pls.

Hi Jason. It's not a lot of pressure. What's the TDS going in? If it drops 80-90%, you're good.
@@electronicsNmore I'm on a shared well in a subdivision, it's about 500 PPM. Only getting 480 after RO. I had bought a whole new system and just finished installing under the sink. About to turn water on and see what's what.
@@jasonlockhart3168 Many wells are horrible. Excessive iron, or sulfur odors. That system isn't doing anything. Something isn't connected properly.
@@electronicsNmore I get better results from my Brita picher than the RO. So I'm just giving up on that unit. Just dumped the 2nd tank on new system, waiting for it to refill before testing TDS.
Can you connect this to your refrigerator and have demineralized ice and drinking water?
Yes, but there's no guarantee that the ice will be perfectly clear. Thanks for watching!
Thank u very much

Small amounts are normal, and the flow should stop after the tank is full.
