This question comes from an audience member, who wants to know how to improve the battery life of his phone as much as possible, specifically in relation to "location" services, which is a BIG battery drainer.

If you disable location, you can't find your phone when you lost it. That's a disadvantage

I never lose my phone, it's like a wallet to me. I never lose that.

Came here to say this, in some countries with higher criminality rates especially, I use an e-Sim on my phone specifically because it cannot be removed in case it gets stolen. Sad, I was using this trick before and indeed the battery felt better, but it can bite you on your behind if things go bad. I hope that the newish "find even when offline" function from Sammy works as well as the apple one does because there are way more Samsung phones than iPhones here! 😅

Location services is worth leaving on! If something unexpected were to happen to me or if an emergency situation were to occur, I'd like my family & emergency services to be able to locate me.
Also, you won't be able to accurately use the "find my device" feature if you need to locate it.

I use the "Allow only when using" for Maps, Ola and Didi (both offer cheaper rates than Uber in NZ), but the disadvantage is that location is turned off even when I'm in picture-to-picture mode or just quickly jumping to recents menu.

Good to improve battery life but if the location is turned off you may not be able to locate your phone if it is lost. Any way to go around that?
I'm not 100% in this... but I think you can go to Samsung find my mobile and they have some pretty powerful features to locate your phone(i think they use the phone's registry) ... you can even turn on and off features, the phone itself, and erase data. I guess you mean something like this?
Try it. Turn off location and use another phone to see if you can find your phone.
@@robertfrancis2039 yeah, don't think I like this... it even says in the settings if toggled off it may affect your find my phone abilities... think I'll pass and just use the standard "while using app"... I'm getting 8-10 sot anyway so I don't need to do all thatgood effort though, but wouldn't trust it for that exact reason.
@@vincentthomas1967 8 to 10 is good for phones nowadays. My note 20 u and now the s22 u battery's life all suck. For over 1k you think you wouldn't have to do all these tips and tricks and limit your phones performance by using battery saver etc.
Mine said the same thing so I just turned it back on. I've lost a phone and don't want to go thru that again besides I get at least 8 hours sot anyway after about 5 days with the galaxy s22 ultra

I guess this would be nice for some users...I use to many apps that I like to have access to my location and all allow me to have the "access while using" option... this way seems alright but a little tasking... plus I have Bixby disabled...I use Google assistant... seems to be doing my battery just fine... getting 8-10 sot... so I'm good... appreciate the info regardless.

I also wondered about that. Bixby must use some CPU power since it's an always-on service, but probably less than the location transceiver which uses a physical radio device.
@@lindadee2053 My 30 years of experience: automation services run out of batteries quickly. Whenever possible I turn them off.
I was actually wondering the same thing... won't Bixby routines always be on to do your routines or does it trigger when time... cause I actually do the opposite and have Bixby disabled for the same reason... which drains more Bixby or locations?
A better routine would be
If - wifi disconnected from home wifi
Then turn location On
Reverse action otherwise
This will enable the location as soon as you exit home. If the phone gets stolen then the location will be on and you can use find your phone app to identify it's location and possibly erase data.
I looked it up....2 apps use my location atm.I always use 'when using app' option. One is my antivirus which ihas another way to find the phone if lost or stolen.
Is this affecting other Bixby Routines? For example while at work / home routine 🤔
If your trigger is a GPS fence it will make these routines stop working. If you want to use this, you would have to change your trigger to connecting to home or work Wi-Fi. The Bixby routines app warns you when the location is turned off.
Bixby routine been using this since the S8 now on my fold 3 even when it's foled it goes into battery saving mode and few others it does save a lot of battery

Power saving mode only applies when the screen is on. You won't see much saving when the phone is folded or screen off as it will go to sleep after some point.
Sounds like a great idea but, this may affect find my device if you loose your phone ???
I have my S20 FE configured this way and it does not affect the Find My Phone functionality. The System UI can still access the lost phones location.
After adding the location routine for bixby on my S22U it gives me a popup stating it will affect the find my device. Can't think of a work around ?
In order to find your phone, while the phone does need to be connected to a Wi-fi or Cell network, the location setting does not need to be on. I just did a test and was able to locate exactly where my phone was, even though the location setting was disabled on it.
can apps open your location even if location is turned off? (besides using bixby routines)

I have a S22 Ultra and I have a problem: if the smartphone screen is not turned on for 1 hour, the notifications, for example, from gmail suffer a delay of approximately 15 to 30 minutes, relative to my PC. How can I resolve this delay? I would be very grateful if you could help me. Thanks.
Honestly the best thing I did which I noticed saves me battery is using bixby routines and just settings some apps to only use standard refresh rate while keeping others at the adaptive rate.. I rarely charge my phone now besides giving a quick top off just in case and I limit my charging at that too

Auto Sync is other draining battery you can abb other Bixby routine in open app then Auto Sync when the app need it and not automatically.
Bixby Routines was the reason why I love Samsung mobile devices ever since I acquired the A71 since 2020. Now I've upgraded to an S22 Ultra.
Did not have this option for my note 9 but was able to sideload it from APK mirror works great as of now

I tried location based routine for some apps and these worked great!
However, I want to turn on the location while using android auto but I didn't find a way to do so. Am I miasing something?
Update : I set the routine for car bluetooth as a workaround, so far so goood 🙂

SAKI YOU CAN USE ONE ROUTINE FOR THE LOCATION...I ADDED 4 APPS AND IT WORKS SO YOU REALLY DON'T HAVE TO MAKE LOTS OF THEM.
What about if you are using a smart watch and also a weather widget
This was a obvious tip for me when I got my s22 ultra. Coming from a 12pm I was happy with the plethora of options. However I started keeping location on after every app asking me for it. I used this trick for 3 months, then left location on for about a month and I haven't noticed any drastic change in battery. The phone didn't last that much longer with location off also, probably would get 30 mins more. This tip isn't as useful as you'd think, it gets annoying having to constantly switch it on and off. Especially if you use android auto for nav.

I use my Galaxy phones with location and power saving mode always on. My batteries last 36-48 hours even if I use them rigorously. Any apps that remain inactive will be automatically switched off as well. This is an inherent android phone power saving approach.
You mentioned the Smart Things app, can we do the same process or are there riske with that one?
You can add as many apps you want into one routine

Well, I've got it set up correctly, but it doesn't work in my galaxy s21 ultra. I have it set up exactly as it is in the video, but location does not turn off when I close maps. Even when I forced stop the maps application it still remains on.

Never use location unless I use maps so it's normally off for this exact reason it drains battery.

You dont have to close Maps applicaton.. the location gets turned off even if you minimize app.. no need to close it and on top of that you just closed all recent apps there was no need.. just check before you do things.
btw i've been doing this since bixby routines existed and its kinda hilarious to me how Sakitech, who has been Samsung user and been focusing on tips and tricks for so long just knew about this..
bixby routines is also the reason i cannot switch to other smartphone brands cuz they dont have this automation feature, only ONE UI has it.
Turning on/off wifi won't work if you disable location.
Is this effect Samsung Health pedometer counts properly?
To bad these routines still don't work in combination with Andriod Auto.
This is a known feature ..System UI uses location 90% of the times for majority of the phones ...any ways to disable location for that?

The sad part about this is, my location is always off and my battery life still sucks! Using s10 from 2+ years.
My phone is always dramatic and he keeps bothering me and yelling at me and telling me to pick up the phone when it calls my emails come around in the notification sound is annoying as hell it's so dramatic

I discovered how to save battery life don't use your phone unless you really have to for example you're in the car put the phone down unless you're using maps and leave it alone turn your brightness all the way down if you don't need it turn off the phone if you don't need it also smack someone in the face really hard with your phone and run you'll see that your battery life will be even better I'm kidding about the last one I'm just having some fun and joking haha funny guy
