    When I saw the title I was like "Well, Sejanus doesn't advocate for child murder games while Snow does, so that makes him the better person"

    My heart goes out to Sejanus, his heart was in the right place. The Hunger Games are rotten to the core, he lacked the discipline to hide his emotions and play the system. A shame too as he had possible allies, Clemensia and Lysistrata objected in part to the games and had some influence in the capitol. If Sejanus had been more like Peeta who was emotional and good at playing the audience he could've done more good.

    (Just finished the book & haven’t seen the movie yet) I haven’t gotten thru this entire video yet but Sejanus is 100% Snow’s victim. like snow literally sent the jabberjay to gaul and got sejanus hanged 😭, snow manipulating everyone around him, including sejanus’s grieving family to pay for his tuition n shiiii. if sejanus was just friends with someone else in the class i think he would’ve been saved

    I like Sejanus too but I would consider him naive not stupid. He definitely didn’t think through certain situations because he was so passionate about his beliefs. Sejanus was a liability to himself wearing his heart on his sleeve when most of the people around him didn’t give a damn about the Districts. I think he felt he could sway the Capital people with his passion and morals but miscalculated how indifferent and ruthless they are.
    Sejanus was a great character but I personally don’t really draw comparisons between him and Katniss. She didn’t like the Hunger Games but had no fire against it until Prim got selected. I fully believe if Prim’s name was never drawn she would’ve continued her life trying to remain neutral, basically in survival mode. Sejanus out the gate couldn’t stand the games and the whole time tried to work against them. He just did it a little recklessly because he had money and didn’t really think about the consequences.
    Snow sucks. I don’t give a damn how good people think he looks. I felt like that was the whole point. All people with bad intentions aren’t always unattractive. Sometimes they’re fine as hell, calculating, and charismatic like Snow.
    As usual I love your take on all these characters. Can’t wait for your next vid!

      Thank you for your insights! :) Whilst I still think Sejanus is similar to Katniss (I will die on this hill), your different perspective on Katniss likely going about her life in survival mode if her family was never reaped is definitely something I agree with.

    I do feel like (this is only in the movie version cause i know in the book you see snows inner dialogue) but if snow had just listened to Sejanus and Tigress he would have turned out good. Like Tigress said “you can be good you are good” i think Lucy Grey was just as bad as an influence to snow as Snow was to her. In the movie (definetly not the book) ive always seen the moment of him breaking down looking at the picture of him and sejanus as him feeling guilt and also realising he has gone to far and he needs to stick with it now.
    If Sejanus was listened to more than the game maker, Snow would have been good. And Tigress was more of a sister to him than a cousin, he should have listened to her as well

    • @CJs_Galaxy
      @CJs_Galaxy  6 місяців тому +1

      I definitely think that it communicated in the books as well. The only difference that there's this sense of a selfish kind of guilt. A guilt where Snow feels bad for Sejanus's death for a moment because it could backfire on him. That is until he justifies Sejanus's death not being his fault.

    Tbh i think Suzanne Collins made snow attractive so that in like a year or two all the simpathizers (pun intended) are going to have a lightbulb moment about how they and society as a whole equate external appearances with morals; almost like how the capitol views the districts and vice versa, and Suzanne Collins is just going to watch all the thirst trap stitches (or whatever the hell tik tok gets replaced with) from her mansion and be like bam told you so i was right

    • @CJs_Galaxy
      @CJs_Galaxy  7 місяців тому +3

      😂 I could definitely see that happening.
      I think the whole point of Snow's character is to be attractive to show how that plays into his charisma (and thus his manipulative nature) too.

    its weird bc if snow was a real person i know id have a deep seated hate for him, but because ive read his literal thoughts and i feel like i deeply understand him i cant hate him. i can relate to having a lack of care for people (in an autistic way for me personally although for snow hes just antisocial). i also find that the way he sees straight through most peoples facade is very funny. even more funny when he gets it wrong like with sejanus.i also deeply understand how he sees the world because i had similar beliefs as a child growing up white in the south (obviously not anymore lol). what most people dont understand about racism is the factor of disgust. you cant just logic your way out of disgust. its similar to fear in the way that you have to cure it through exposure therapy. but the wrong kind of exposure (like with snow in district 12) can make it so much worse. its hard not to be disgusted by poor people or drug addicts or the like, but with the right amount of understanding the statistics and the simple facts of their situation, some relatability, and exposure, you can overcome your disgust. i feel that pity does not help. snow was close to it with lucy gray, but he was overcome with suspicion clouding his judgement. but because the audience has a different perspective (we cant feel the discomfort snow feels, plus we werent raised to hate 12), we are given the right kind of exposure that snow was too distracted to see. so we simply cant hate 12 the way that snow hates it.
    i dont read too much so maybe this isnt as profound as i think it is but im so glad i these books helped me find a way to understand better how to deal with unconscious prejudice because sweeping it under the rug the twitter way is such a terrible way to deal with it

      Sweeping it under the rug the Twitter way is something I'd say Snow would do if we were a real person, or at least encourage Capitol civilians to do. The Capitol would love cancel culture I just know it.
      When it comes to 'liking' Snow as well, I think since stories are usually written from the hero's point of view we're conditioned to automatically like the protagonist. With Snow, I think a lot of people are just a little too used to relating with the protagonist and thinking that this character is the hero because, why wouldn't they be? The reality is, protagonists can be understood and sometimes even relatable in some contexts but can still be the villain in the narrative.
      Also, thanks for watching! :)

      im glad that you understood that i meant cancel culture lol. because so many people on the internet it seems dont really think deeply about how their activism or lack there of affects other people. the kind that is just performative basically, or lacks a consideration of intersectionality.
      i think that this has lead people to be afraid to relate to snow because they havnt truly delt with their unconcious biases. to me, if i feel that wearyness of relating to something that is perceived as immoral, then i deeply consider why. which is why it kinda peeves me off when someone writes a character or another person off as being unsave-able or "its bad to sympathize with them" simply because they are narcissistic. im not saying you have to be their friend or keep them in your life but you should at least try to understand that its not their fault that they lack empathy. many of them genuinely want to be better.
      snow is a good example of someone who didnt want to try to sympathize with other people. he became obsessed with self preservation and domanince at the cost of litterally anything and everything. he sees people as pawns either for him to use or knock off the board. he crossed that line that lucy gray described. i dont want to give the impression that i think thats in any way okay. (cue penguinz0 BUUTT clip lol) that doesnt mean that you cant relate to his judgemental, petty, and tone deaf way of thinking. im sitting observing snow from the other side of lucy grays line everytime. i can also easily disprove those thoughts of his AND i find them quite silly. like im watching him step over the line and everytime i can say that he didnt have to do that. we all can but i understand why he did it. all those things combined, thats why i love this book lol. the movie, too. i couldnt keep my self from giggling IN THE THEATER when he went in his little rampages. cuz hes just like this toddler that cant manage his emotions and i low key relate lmao. plus its jarring because hes charming and reserved for 90% of the movie then all of a sudden he freaks out. it reminds me of how katniss thought of kato when he was throwing his tantrum when all of the supplies got blown up. its a key difference between snow and katniss. snow kills when something doesnt go his way, while katniss is for the most part a realist and thinks of an ETHICAL way to make things better.
      if you read this far thanks :). but you brought this upon yourself when you said you like reading long comments. i just hope it didnt give you a stroke and that it wasnt boring lol.
      i dont have friends :(
