Awesome way to get results easier, i've been doing similar experiments with inks. Very very under rated i think. Contrast and Ink...One of these things is not like the other...
Another great example of your skill and what can be done with contrasts in particular the feathering was nice to see . Just got back from Barcelona and as a memento I picked up two lovely minis from Raul Garcia Latorre . Started painting early summer and been watching your channel since then ! Finally going to attempt using contrast paints in a more skilled way 😂. Thanks for all the tips and tricks man awesome stuff
Tbh, I was never a friend of any kind of contrast paint. But seeing it used in combination with other paints really looks great. It seems I am spared the wash step, I am using in my very classic painting approach. Thanks for the video!
Really interesting to see the extension of contrast techniques in this video!👌 Could you do a follow on from your core contrast technique video? In the vid you sometimes mix contrasts and sometimes layer different ones on top of each other. What are the technical benefits for mixing Vs layering them? Does it give a different result?
Because the series is called Eavy Contrast, and that's what it's all about. Also until Xpress hit the market and people are able to buy them I'm not going to use them in any videos
Great video thanks! I have a brush question. Does the use of contrast paints not destroy your sable brushes? I was under the impression contrast paints made their way into the ferrule and splayed the point.
No they don't if you don't overload the brush and you make sure the brush is always moist when you load it. Basic brush prevention maintenance really, same applies for all kinds of paints
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures Thank you I will take a look. I only ask as I find that contrast paint never flows as well on metal minis than on plastic figures
Big question: Will this style of painting be viable with Vallejo xpress colors? Will you make more videos using them? Also following your recommendation i ordered some rosemary brushes, they are surprisingly small. What kind and sizes do you use?
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures haha nice i ordered them in W&N sizes, so i'll have to order some bigger ones. Been wondering if i can use your methods with the Vallejo xpress colors too. Gonna try that out at least.
They actually didn't, I could do whatever I wanted but as I said before the channel is not going to change, I'm not a Vallejo employee and I can do whatever I want
Ok so the brushes seem great but how long do they hold their quality when using contrast paints? I've heard several times that non synthetic brushes get destroyed very quickly by contrast paints due to their formula.
That is like asking how long does a car lasts in showroom condition. It depends on how you treat them. For me? About half a year to a year of continuous use and zero care, and I'm ok with that but I've heard of people that have had them for years and are still perfect.
"But Juan, why are you using your fine sable brush to apply contrast and metallic paints? Won't that ruin the brush?", exclaimed the masses of young impressionable painters who have been told that this is a big No-No, unaware of the basics of proper brush care.
So true. There are a lot of bad myths out there, including this same style of comment about brushes, as well as metallics on a wet palette (which do NOT soak through into the sponge). People keep regurgitating the same bad information.
Hi Juan, I love your vidios, how would you aproach the new metal black armour for slavess to darkness (chaos chosen, warriors, etc.) Thank you very much for your help if you see the comment (a vidio would be amazing,😁)

I don't know how to feather or wet blend

Maybe one day!

Yes and the basecoats are SO MUCH FASTER, because you only do one layer.
Stunning.
Thanks
Right when I need it! Thx m8, great as always.

That red leather and skin tone is the stuff of my wet (palette) dreams 🤤

It does give a very different result. Layering makes it darker for a starter, also the hue will be completely different
Another great video. What’s a good colour to layer/highlight gryph charger grey please?
Probably something in between Ulthuan Grey or Celestra Grey

why don't you use vallejo xpress only citadel contrast?

Juan, do you recommend the short or long handled rosemary co brushes?
Love this! What size brush are you using here? They look like they keep their point really well!
Rosemary and Co series 33 size 3, you have a link in the description to them. I used the same brush for the whole model

Quizás en el futuro si
