I got to meet Mr. Lewis at a hotel in Houston back in the mid 70's. He was drunk sitting in the hallway. I didn't know who he was at first because he was all slouched over and drunk. He asked if I had a light and I handed him my bic lighter. Thats when I started to recognize him, but I didn't let him know I knew who he was. I asked him if I could help him get to his room and he thanked me. As I walked him to his room he kept mumbling all kinds of incoherent stuff to himself. As I got him to his room and opened the door for him he asked me if I knew who he was? I said no, but if we look at your wallet it should tell you. He started giggling like a kid. As I started to leave he thanked me and said what a nice young man I was and handed me a 20 dollar bill. The twenty bill was from 1935 and I still have it to this day as a memento. I never was able to see his movies or telethon in the same way again. He just seemed so broken.
I can believe that the guy that made me laugh so hard when I was young was such a prick in real life. When your own children thinks of you as a mean old man, you've got to be a real jerk.
He tried so hard to be handsome cool and suave. He wanted to be Dean.Who he was truly in love with. However as they say".Better to be a first rate version of yourself. Than a second rate version of someone else"
Do you often miss what is happening in a film. Buddy Love is suppose to be pompous and obnoxious AND a main part of the comedy . Think about it now, would the Buddy Love role been funny if he walked on the stage and he sang like Dean Martin? Sorry you missed a classic comedy performance by a comedy genius.
@@Cha-y412 did it never occur to you that donielle is talking in general about Jerry's personality? And not the movie? It is "supposed", not "suppose". He is bang on the $$ by the way. Jerry was obsessed/in love with Dean Martin, and could never be him. Lewis was not a genius. Sid Caesar was though, and so was Dean Martin. Lewis was an obnoxious loudmouth.
It is sad that you missed a great performance and comedy movie focusing on Jerry Lewis singing abilities. Buddy Love is suppose to be the joke because he is so pompous.
He made me laugh when I was a kid. Since then, I’ve learned a number of things about him which surprised me and made me dislike him. He was not a nice guy.
ジェリー・ルイス氏こんなにジャズが上手い人と知らず、この映画の虜に。 レス・ブラウンのスイングジャズも聞き逃しできない。 very good swing song
RIP. JERRY & DEAN AND ALL.
This was my favorite movie of my childhood. It really isn't very good, but as a child I loved it
I think Jerry would be an enormous success if he started out today, where it seems everything is aimed at the mentality of 12-year-olds.
Jerry Lewis films were shown in the UK, many times. I'm 59 . Love his comedy.
@@mercian7 As Bill Clinton might say, it depends on the meaning of comedy.
Buddy Love. Great show.
Toller Film. Grossartig.

He was a bully, and a narcissist, and he assaulted women, see Vanity Fair interview. Horrible creep.
Tal cual mi suegro
Cuando dice iyouremenber...eso es jazz...
Burkhalters sister is in the audience
Also in the Blues Brothers movie.

Everytime you look in the mirror you see one.
De qué fuman... quiero
Buddy Love was like the Devil… I think Jerry Lewis knew that…😅
Jerry WAS Buddy.
What's left to say about JERRY LEWIS... he was a GREAT talent, raised a lot of money for charity, all whilst being a lousy human being!
Human beings are lousy, push comes to shove
No me consta ni me importa
Nunca escuché un disco tuyo. Jajajaja
A quien le importa, me hizo reír!!!
Greaseball of the world.
You could refuel an airliner by wringing out that creeps hair.
If you are inclined to put Jerry Lewis down, I ask you, what have you done get noticed? Hmmn?
Cannot deny his talent but he was a terrible human who cut his sons of without a dime who does that huh
Who ever told Jerry Lewis he could sing? Guy simply couldn't carry a tune.
He was playing acting ... you know that 🙄
@@theodorejay1046 He actually released a few recordings and sang at Charity events. He fancied himself a vocalist.🤣😭😭😭

Because he never could sing. He had no real comedic genius. Tried to be Bugs Bunny at one point. @@Cha-y412
