    This shows that only Ste & Brendan can help each other. :) PS: that old Ste scares me haha

    Ste's mom Pauline and Brendan's dad Seamus have a lot in common. They both made their son's lives a living hell, they whisper homophobic things to them making them feel horrible about themselves, and then Pauline and Seamus play the victim with their sob story to make people like Cheryl and Doug feel sorry for them acting like they don't know what they did to make their sons hate them!

    The look on Ste's face when he shoved Doug to the floor was priceless. I wonder if it brought back memories of when he hurt Amy? I'm sure he never thought he would do anything like that again, especially to Doug. Doug is always trying to do something good for Ste, and he believes he's doing good. What Doug remembers too late is that he should ask Ste, or talk it over with Ste, or make sure Ste is ok with it. They do need to find out more about each other rather than planning a wedding.

    I agree that they need to communicate. Also, Doug is so quick to try so hard to do the right thing he never actually thinks it threw. First with Walker and now Pauline.

    Also that was a very low blow of Doug's, tormenting Ste about his disability. That can hurt more than a bit of a shove

    Oi! Sorry but you just can't say that about Brendan. Part of his whole problem is that he does not "whine" He keeps it all inside, tries to protect the few people he loves from the truth, that's why his pain manifests itself the way it does.

    If Doug wanted Ste to be with his family, why not arrange to bring the kids to HO for the weekend? Like... why the heck did he think bringing Ste's estranged mom into the picture was a good idea? I know his intentions are good, but man does he do dumb stuff sometimes

    His father didn't put him in a circle of violence. No doubt the abuse Brendan suffered as a child contributed towards the man he has become, but I am tired of people pushing the blame for Brendan's actions onto others. It was Brendan who allowed himself to physically abuse his lovers.

    Parents like Brendan's and Ste's are outside of Doug's experience. What Doug did in inviting Pauline was stupid, naive, well-intended, and disrespectful of Ste. He thought he was doing something for Ste, when, as we can see, he ended up doing something to Ste. Even at the end Doug still has no idea.

    I feel so bad for Doug :( On paper, he makes the perfect boyfriend for Ste. He is reliable, genuine, caring, empathetic, romantic... what most people want in a man. However, for whatever reason he just does not measure up to Brendan. And that's never going to change. The spark just isn't there for Ste and Doug.

    This episode,just wow. Brendan,who is trying to get better and then we see Ste's past coming back to haunt him. I didn't like the shove at the end,no matter how much Doug pushed he shouldn't have resorted with violance. I can't wait for tomorrows episode.

    Ugh, whatever else you might say about Brendan, he would never have been stupid enough to invite Ste's mum, and he never would have stood there and let her act the way she did to Ste. She would have been out of the flat long before she could say any of that bull.

  • @eleanor7

    I don't condone it either, but Doug should not have made that comment. Ste was so angry about Pauline and everything she said to him that he was going to lash out. He needed kindness and love, not another jab at him. And I get why after everything Pauline still gets to Ste, but Ste needs to learn to control himself and not result to violence.

    Not saying what Ste did was acceptable but It must've stung Ste pretty bad when Doug corrected him. Here is his mother telling him he will never change and being an all round vile person then Doug the person who is supposed to support him goes and further belittles him by emphasising his flaws. I'm not a violent person but with all that pressure....I'd snap too.

    everybody is talking about ste's behavior which might i say was appauling and might i add a total regression! (THANKS HOLLYOAKS WRITERS!)what about doug how does getting mad at ste for wanting to be alone and then teasing him about his diablity add up to caring and loving partner? am totally lost on the personality appeal of doug's character. you shouldn't help to break down someone that you love's confidence just because they shut you out, that's just petty and spiteful.

  • @shak15ti

    Unless he has forgotten, Doug does know that Ste has dyslexia. The writers and the actors had a lot to juggle here. Poor Kieron has been Fighting (Big Time) against Ste going violent again! The next few scenes will be very interesting.

    in a way, although walker brought alot of distress upon brendan, (allowing Lynsey to be murdered, kidnapping his son etc.) brendan only became a better man out of it. He's on the right path now to happieness for once in his life.

  • @44Michellef
    @44Michellef 12 років тому +1

    Here is why this angle! People are more inclined to open up to a priest than a therapist! Legally anything you say to a priest can't be repeated under any circumstances, not even in court! Bren has a lot of demons he needs to face clearly he has a problem repeating a lot of things to the therapist with Ches present, so going to church alone, and airing those things to a priest is good for his soul! And in turn good for him as well. Bren is really not a BAD person! just a victim of circumstance!

  • @Tblackfacebook
    @Tblackfacebook 12 років тому +1

    The dad wasnt really around very much and then Ste stepped in and said it was his so people believed that for awhile. The Ste and Amy abuse story did not really kick off until Kieron was around. He was the priest that John Paul had a thing with. He kept trying to help Amy and Ste but Ste did not like him much. He had bad memories of when the church would convince his mom to go back to his stepdad because of the sanctity of marriage despite the abuse.

    he has mentioned it, Walker has mentioned about him. he always made reference to his cross whenever he did something( he kissed his chain and did the sign of a cross) even with the Rae pregnancy situation he brought up his religion. since he is trying to change i guess alot of things will seem unexpected lol.

    @WalkingTravisty 12 років тому

    Do we know that? What makes us as viewers more knowledgeable than any victim of abuse out there?
    You're determination to sweep the real issue here under the rug is astounding.
    This is why I cannot fathom Stendan shippers. They say they don't condone abuse, yet they're determined to not address it or explain it away as a key part of their relationship. jfc people die because of domestic violence every year and here are thousands of people prepared to see someone return to the abuser.

  • @WalkingTravisty
    @WalkingTravisty 12 років тому +1

    Yes yes people can be redeemed. I accept that. And I am impressed with Brendan for actually yknow making an effort for once.
    Does a future redemption mean that the show's portrayal of Stendan currently as a love story is okay? No.

    "Jesus died on the cross so that we can all be saved"..."even the devil?" that line really struck. can you imagine how this man sees himself? I believe people can change you have the ones that don't want to (like pauline) n ones just don't know how like Brendan. I always believe the same as Brendan, after things happen in your life and choices you made, you don't know any other way to live your life than how you know. I realize any person can be forgiven if they want it for the right reasons.

    I see, as your fav character I would be as upset too. I dont think they should too much as pulling the story one side imo even tho I love brendan and ste. I am not sure how they are going to do this, I can see if in Doug;s character to tell Ste that but I don;t know. yea, guess so but I think they should move the story in steps which they are but I think possible b/c emmett leaving I think its going abit rushed sadly so some things does some constricted I suppose, then again this is hollyoaks.

    Actually I meant a moral turning point where Ste realises he's actually helping and defending the man who beat him up on multiple occasions. Somehow I doubt the show plans to include this and it will be disregarded as fair.
    Also, people have been supporting this storyline and praising it as a romance for years, while Brendan only started counselling a few episodes ago.

    I honestly don't care who gets together with whom; that is for the writers to determine. I like both pairings for what they bring to the screen. I also like reading the commentary (so far) before it resorts to a lot of name calling. Soap operas are the only place you can safely discuss these subjects. In real life, the emotions and the real pain, make it much more difficult as well as potentially dangerous.

    Gosh, lots of harsh judgments of Ste and Doug here. All the interactions in this episode are so true to the characters. I love that about this show. Doug and Ste really do not understand each other.
    Also here you'll find several offerings of the simple solution-put Ste & Brendan back together. Brendan is not ready to be in a relationship. Give him time. The man is actively seeking answers. He's an amazing work in progress!

    Why are you so obsessed with how long I've been watching? Seriously. If you must know, I started watching in early 2008, so I think I have a firm grasp of Ste's character. And he was in control. But people seem to be trying to persuade me on the one hand that Ste can never fully change and on the other hand that Brendan is fully capable of reforming his violent ways? Pick a side already.

    Amy had no need to worry for her kids' lives. Ste was always a model father to them. She knew he would never lay a hand on them. Even then, her family was watching out for the kids too, and they were the first to jump in if he jeopardised their well-being in any way and I'm certain Amy could rely on Sarah/Mike to keep Ste in line.

  • @WalkingTravisty

    I'm still pretty amazed that people are actually demonising Doug here and calling him unfit for a relationship, yet these are the same people who defend Brendan Brady and say he just needs to be loved? Really guys?
    Punching someone = poor misunderstood soul!
    Being insecure = ugh the whiny prat deserved to be pushed.

    I agree, I think some people are being too harsh on Doug. I am for ste and Brendan but it's not fair on Doug's part b/c he just trying to help Ste. other than that, they need to put off the wedding to know each other more. it is apparent they need to know more about each other.

    I get why Ste is acting this way, Pauline reminds him of everything he once was and all the pain and suffering she caused him. She is at the heart of him, all that anger he still feels about her, that he thought he had moved on from and left behind. She got right in his face and wouldn't let up with her torment. I don't condone what Ste did by shoving Doug, but I can see why being around his mother that Ste would revert back to violence.

  • @44Michellef

  • @giuventino1
    @giuventino1 12 років тому

    you are joking yourself if you think that the violence brendan suffered hasn't a part in the way he acts. some people can get over it with help but there are even people that don't have the strenght to ask for help so yes, it was brendan's responsabilty but part of the blame is definetly on his father. parents has a responsabilty for the way they treat their kids not just for the kids themeselves but also for the society that has to deal with them

  • @WalkingTravisty
    @WalkingTravisty 12 років тому

    Some of the responsibility is on his father. I agree entirely. Cycles of abuse DO exist.
    But Brendan's past doesn't make his actions in the present any less abhorrent.

  • @WalkingTravisty
    @WalkingTravisty 12 років тому

    No, this isn't about a bond. This is about trusting someone intimately, allowing them to touch you and giving them the opportunity to take control of you. Not to mention, we are more likely to forgive and make excuses for someone we love. As best friends, Ste and Amy never had that. They had a strong bond, but were the violence to ever return to the relationship, Amy would have been able to escape far more easily.

    That doesn't mean the violence ceased to ever exist. How does a victim of DV know that it will never happen in the future? Are they supposed to just take the abuser's word for it when they say that they have changed? Ste's already done that and he ended up getting hurt. Ste has no solid reasoning to believe that he won't be hurt by Brendan again and yet he's softened to him and is defending him and why? All Brendan has ever done is hurt him, lie to him, control him, make him hate himself, etc.

  • @justmoijah

    There are a few clips of Pauline and Terry with Ste posted online. It was very bad! Pauline never attempted to help Ste and you see that Terry punched, kicked, threw Ste across the room. What Brendan in several brutal scenes came from Terry in One scene and let's not forget puling hair threatening to break fingers and much much more. A lot of what Ste did to Amy is what Terry did to him. Think this started when Ste was still a very young boy. Not sexually abused but the beatings were huge!

  • @marquesdevalera7403

    Ste is turning into Brendan battering Doug. I think Ste was abused by his mom. People who are abused often become abusers and victims of abuse. Ste used to beat up Amy then he allowed himself to be battered by Brendan. Now battering Doug. It all makes sense to me now.

    Why does our knowledge of his back story mean that he's a good person? We know Silas's back story, why he killed all those girls, does that mean he shouldn't go to jail? I really fail to understand the logic here.
    And Ste apparently hasn't changed. He just reacted with violence in that last scene.

  • @WalkingTravisty
    @WalkingTravisty 12 років тому

    Ste was never as bad as Brendan. He was an abuser, but he never sank as low as Brendan has. Until Brendan actually makes an effort to change, he doesn't deserve love.
    And I'm sorry but you will never convince me that it is okay for someone to go back to someone who beat them because they "need each other" and "can help each other". The only way he has helped Ste was teaching him some self respect a few months ago, all of which has been lost now of course...

  • @WalkingTravisty
    @WalkingTravisty 12 років тому

    Well, considering Ste's with him and not Brendan I wouldn't exactly say he's second choice...
    He hasn't really been staying out of their lives. First he bought the deli, then their apartment, then he called Ste to take him home from hospital, he frequents the deli, got Ste to buy a gun for him, etc. Though I agree Ste is hardly resisting.
    Also, Joel invited Doug, not Brendan.
    And believe me when I say nothing would make me more pleased than for Doug to leave Ste.
