Your channel is exactly what I’ve been looking for! I took up mtb at the start of lockdown and I love it! I’m 40 next week and I’ve found it hard to find relatable (and useful) content to help me to improve. There’s some great stuff out there but THIS is what I’ve been looking for! Thank you! 🙏🏼
Thank you Emily for the excellent detail. Just starting to ride pump tracks and my little 63 year old brain needs DETAIL! Didn’t realize that pump tracks skills are good tools for trail riding. Trying to learn to pump and then I come into these huge daunting berm turns.
Yep new bike! Scott Ransom Contessa. Very pleased with it! If you've seen any of my insta posts, I've probably been banging on about it a bit too much!!!
Hi Emily, great video! Any tips on how much break we should use before the berm? I can never tell how fast I should hit the berm and always end up breaking too much.
Hello Pelin! Good question! The best way to find out how much to brake is to practice riding the same berm over and over again, and each time try to carry a bit more speed than the time before. You could put a marker (like your drink bottle, or a jumper) on the ground just before the berm, and start your braking as you pass it. Move the marker gradually closer to the berm as you feel more confident with the speed you're carrying. The idea is you do the same amount of braking each time (as in, same amount of pressure on your levers) but you leave it later and later so effectively you've braked less and end up carrying more speed around the berm. I hope that makes sense! It's just about practice and gaining experience. Sometimes it can be hard to know, and easy to brake too much - but the next time you should know that you can brake less.

Thanks so much for your comment! So happy that I'm able to help, albeit from a distance!
