Hey Brandon my son just got his llc and is in the process of opening a frieght brokerage the guy he works for has been in business quite a while they have 20 truck and this is there next step. I am out of a job right now so I at 57yrs. Old am going to try to learn to be a agent they have a few more with lots of exp. But I am nervous about it. My only question is how do you find shippers? Sounds ridiculous but it seems impossible sometimes to find someone who isn't already locked in to a contract with a mega brokerage like tql or xpo

every shipper I work with works with other brokers....big brokers...medium brokers and small.....comes with the territory...shippers are hardly ever exclusive to one broker...peace and prosperity!

I have found success working with smaller companies... Everyone wants to work with Wal-Mart or Costco, but those are long set up journeys, when a smaller shipper can set you up the same day usually if they want. If you are having issues, focus on the guys that have 3-5 loads per week... If you are getting $300 margins, and have 4-5 of those shippers, you will have a nice nest egg to build your business on.
You do not have to swing for the fences at first... get established, get comfortable, and build carrier relationships... The big opportunity will come.

Sometimes shipper will gives you a load and they don't wanna do the carrier setup.
If you tell them to complete setup before you move a load. They will stop replying.
