Gold and Black Nurse were some of the best stuff these guys did but I remember at the time Colouring Book EP being massively hated on by a vocal minority over on the Glassjaw forums. That finally got added to Spotify 2 years ago now and I still think it's their best work.
im a guitarist but damn, i have to give it up to those drums on this song, they sound phenomenal!!!!!!
Yeah, I was there. Never heard of them before, but wanted to see them and was very impressed!
That Baritone Fender Jaguar sounds filthy. These cats had no idea what they were witnessing
Is that what that is? How did he get that? Custom made?
Greatest band of all time.
this is the pinnacle of gJ form and evolution. history
Definitely
I was there. The reason the crowd is so shit is because they were all holding places at the front for Bombay Bicycle Club who were on straight after. Me and the other real GJ fans were going wild believe me
@648tomm
Disappointed? Not at all. All we can do is give it all we can, and hope you enjoy it as much as we do. That was a big stage. It was terrifying. We were far away from each other, and the crowd. It was a risk to come out and play new songs. We also weren't on the "heavy bands" stage. There was a conscious decision to play those songs on that stage. Did it work out? I don't know. I had fun. I thought the crowd didn't like us, but they shouted for more. I'm happy if we get to play, PERIOD.
They are amazing.
My god, I want the whole set like this.
I am pretty sure Daryl's throat exploded at 1:55.
He's like "shit did I just do that?" Haha
@Limehawk
I wasn't embarrassed. I was very proud of it, and of my bandmates. I also had a great time.
I never knew the BBC liked to get down like this.
I like Daryl's grey hairs.
I was right at the front on the barrier! it was incredible!!
LOVE OF MY LIFE
I Agreed with that! i did a gig with my band at a venue and all the bands were wearing asking alex shirts and the kids went crazy and when we went on, we were going crazy with high tune vocals and shouts and running around the audience and .. they didn't understand without smyths .... what are people like?? This guy is my hero
please BBC, upload the whole show!
I think it looks and sounds amazing. Of course, I am a long time fan, but still, this filmed for TV, multi-camera stuff sure beats the hell out of most the live GJ shit I've seen on here. Thanks for uploading!
Crowd seems sort of passive. It's fucking Glassjaw! I would have been singing, screaming, crying and vomiting, probably.
I guess alot of the people dont know how rare of a treat it is to see Daryl on stage, i waited 4 shows 3 GJ, and a Head Automatica (had tickets for all 4) but the 1st 3 got cancelled due to Daryls Illness.
@duffmattk
No, no I was wrong. You are definitely correct - a band that has performed at rock festivals throughout the world, has worked with a world-leading producer, signed to two internationally recognised record labels, defined a genre of music and has a fan base that would literally take bullets for them definitely need lessons from a pub band of nobodies who play capable but uninspired music that won't get them anywhere outside of a venue of more than a dozen or so drunks.
WTF glassjaw uploaded by... BBC? the world has gone mental and i love it!
Turn up the guitars... this live performance is missing their usual intensity.
Glassjaw in HD BABY!
I'm glad to see Chris Kattan finally doing what he's always wanted to do!
@648tomm I was there. I was working backstage and I saw the whole band practising french kissing on the backs of their hands before they went onstage. It's a cool pre-gig warm up ritual they have.
It´s different from early years, but still good!
Mustacio certified
indeed!
Watched this in my car, plugged in, and shit sounded sweet. Especially the bass and drums. Guitar is a tad low, but GJ is wicked excellent!
Palumbo forever 💚
i would appreciate it a lot man!
:)
Glassjaw filmed for tv ? shit gots reallll
fuck yeah, brother.
Music is for everyone. When it's aimed at a younger group of people, it's being "marketed" to you, depending on your desperation to "belong" to a group. The quality of the music is secondary. In fact, it helps if it sounds unpleasant, because more people will argue about it on the internet, as is the case here. So, when you say "fresher", I read "more gullible". If Barudi or anyone else would like me to recommend some stuff to listen to without prejudice, message me.
DOPE
Dope is exactly right!!! -3
Anyone know what amp head Beck is using?
1st time ever listening to glassjaw and to be honest the crowd needs a slap
this is great, cant really hear the band but this is a great video!!
My god
@actuppromotions If your playing it through a laptop then there's your problem. If not I apologise...
hahah smokin a blunt at @2:43
All nostalgia aside....the coloring book ep is the best music ive ever heard from glassjaw...put that shit on a good stereo and try and tell me you dont feel it onside of you....i guess its cool to hate though.
@fatherofthatson manny i was at this show and i kinda got the impression that you all seemed a bit dissapointed at the reaction of the crowd, i thought you sounded brilliant but i think the crowd were expecting heavier stuff, which was why they were trying to 'pit' to songs like daytona white, shame cos i love the new ep and them acting like idiots kinda ruined it for me, just wondered how you felt it went?
@fatherofthatson props
I wish the bass had been better recorded, the drops are dellliiicious
@duffmattk LMFAO! That's hilarious!
only bad things about this are the quietness of the guitar and the boring crowd :'(
the crowd is under hypnosis
@MyDogCanSurf
No offence man but a note like that belongs at the top of the video description.
Daryll and the snapbacks
@Mariooo57 for real! fucking good quality deserved.
@graemegeorge1985 Ahaha it was so strange I was standing there and everyone around me was silent
Becks hoodie???
As much as I love them they need that second guitar player they just don’t get it... !!!
I felt similarly originally but I feel like Beck’s guitar tone is so good that he can carry the band without that second guitar
I used to agree but these days, I feel like they figured it out.
tbf this isn't the greatest mix either, not horrible or even bad but def not something a ton of time was spent on
fuck me, that was awesome.
are they cuban?
jewish
Awesome, but i still thinking that they need the second guitar
I have just spent the weekend at the Download festival. All my friends who went with me and everyone else there were wearing band t-shirts of the bands I mentioned in my previous post. At the end of the day, music is all opinion and purely subjective and you commenting on here about a band I like, saying how "terrible" you think they are, so what? What do you want me to say in response to that? I'm not going to get into an argument with you because that's just stupid over something so subjective
what brand bass is that?
It's Fender Presicion Plus bass. They were only made for a couple of years during the 90s.
Can't hear the bass at all and guitars are a bit muffled but sick video still :)
haha, you are funny man.
@Limehawk
I don't think Glassjaw need any lessons from a pub band.
@KristianHicks oh, by the way......fish fingers.
They're focusing on the playing and the music, rather than the 'performing'. This isn't really music you jump around to and go crazy on stage to like they're older stuff. This is chill.
@fatherofthatson Do you have the video snippet of where the crowd shout for more? Haha. Shame the crowd don't look that happy for you to be playing. Maybe instead of writing bitchy emails back to me, you should heed my advice and drop this one from your set. Just so you know, when a crowd starts moving their bodies and waving their hands in the air and clapping and cheering, that means they're enjoying themselves. Just so you know.
this is TAME comapred to their other shows
@TheAwesomeSaucerer Just a shoddy recording by BBC i think, or a poor upload.
So what's Normal then for a lead singer??
@drcroc2 of course the studio version is superior, that's the whole point. if everyone played flawlessly every time they would just tour forever and rake in all the dough with no licensing worries, and then rake in more cash by sellin videos of the shows.
Can't believe I spent 2 and a half minutes watching this. At that point I realised I wasn't going to make it through to the end. I have since recovered my cool with the help of Metallica, Type-O Negative, Disturbed, and Rob Zombie, i.e. some really fucking decent heavy rock music.
Rob Zombie? Disturbed? AAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHA
This is unreal.
@nsimonsen63 HAHAHAHAHAAA! FISH FINGERS!
0.40ช้าง
@KristianHicks Nah- you're absolutely right. I mean, with a song title like 'all good junkies go to heaven'- why would they need lessons off anyone......right? Erm, yeah.....
Fuckin' fish fingers!
hmm, just as well I found their earlier stuff before i found this. this really isn't floating my boat.
@graemegeorge1985 LOL!
can't hear guitar much :/
Yah, no offence, but those bands are all shit. I don't understand all the people who are hating on Glassjaw's new style? I think it's amazing. I've never heard anything like it. Bands like trying new things, and when a band succeeds at new things, then you know you've got an extremely talented band. (Glassjaw, Trophy Scars, Dear Hunter etc)
@Limehawk Wow man, that's just embarassing. Take a really hard look at your own music before you criticize these guys, let alone anyone else.
I know music taste is subjective but your original post on this video completely contradicts what you just said.
The last time i was at Download i saw hundreds of people wearing Avenged Sevenfold shirts and they're one of the most mind numbingly terrible bands on the planet so i guess there's no accounting for taste.
me encanta glassjaw pero esto no me gusta!
Yes
oh my god. it's 2012 and it isn't completely common knowledge what an opinion is? music is MADE to be unique. All the goddamn riffs that are easy to make and everyone ever would unanimously love are pretty much already used. So inevitably music gets a little 'weirder' if you will, as it goes on. You have to push boundries to expand and make anything new. I don't mind wading through the crap to find real gold.
this mix all fucked up
Crowd suckt cawk
i love glassjaw but the new performances are shockingly bad. lazy and lacking in almost everything that they were and why i feel in love with them in the first place.
Fish fingers
Not the first show in nine years... They played Saints & Sinners in '07, and--I'm pretty darn sure--a handful of others between then and now. But regardless, it is disappointing to see such a good set juxtaposed with the disinterest and blank expression of the crowd.
No.
So classic frontman behavior equals being gay now? Hmm...times sure have changed.
But seriously, even if he is who cares? That shouldn't keep anyone from being a fan
LOL troll. Those bands are so minuscule in comparison to the far reaching influence glassjaw has had in punk and post-hardcore.
@Limehawk stfu
nope nope definitely not
Not sure if troll ... Or if this guy's really that lame ...
gtfo, bots
These guys aren't bad at all, but the lead singer looks like he's watched one too many Rolling Stones performances. Dude's got the moves like Jagger...and that's not necessarily a good thing.
Comedy gold. All I said was that it sounded very unpleasant to my ears and that it falls far from musical genius. I think that's being more than fair here. I think the response here is testament to the superficiality of both the kind of people who fall for the marketing of this kind of music ahead of its artistic value, and the musicians who perpetrate it. I might be willing to listen to any valid criticism of our music, but calling us a "pub band" over and over is just...weak :)
