    I've Never had any experience with pocket doors, seen one once,and now i have to install a double, center converging pocket door set. So many videos on hardware and door hanging but not the studs ,so thanks for that👍but do the studs come in a kit pre assembled? Or would I have to build them? Mocha chip cone sounds pretty good right about now,lol.

      Did you read the instructions that came with your Johnson Hardware kits? I find them pretty clear. I offer phone coaching to get you out of this pickle: shop.askthebuilder.com/consult-tim/

      @@askthebuilder actually,just yesterday it was decided that a double pocket door is what my boss wants, so im only just now researching all the options of hardware,track,and doors size and style. How they install and function, as well as the wall,header,and pockets. So all the decisions i make now have to end up being what she wants both in appearance and function. This is my first pocket door rodeo.

      @@askthebuilder lol,yeah ! I'll try to catch your other vids& tips as soon as i get a chance ,thanks. (Johnson motion co.)seems to be the most complete source for everything needed, very informative website, I was gonna call them to find out about a couple of technical things, maybe you could answer for me,if ya got time. We have 3/4 drywall ceiling,will i need to cut that open to receive pre fab header? And is there a 2×4 needed at bottom of wall for studs or can i fasten stud brackets directly to floor? (we have 2 layers of 3/4 ply wood on floor)thanks again for all of your help thus far! And when i get paid , I'll be glad to donate to your tip jar.

    I have pocket doors like this. The one in my bathroom, the door comes off the knob thing. What's attached to the door is a channel and a u type mechanism. That u type mechanism turns somehow and the door is let go if closed a certain way. We have figured out that way even though we try and be good with it. Lol. It's not easy to get back on track. I MacGyver it. It's works until we find that way of closing it again.

    Where can I buy hardware that was in bag attached to door-that I wasn’t suppose to remove? Yep I removed mine and put it somewhere safe. Looked everywhere except house roof.

    Wow, that was a great video. Very informative. Keep doing more like this! I see the TIA Crew representing!

    • @askthebuilder
      @askthebuilder  10 років тому

      I will TIA. The issue is you have to have the projects to show on video. In my case, it can take hours and hours to get to the point like in this video where you can start to tape. In other cases, it takes days to show a project from start to finish. But I'll keep trying! Thanks, as always, for stopping by.

    how do you build with galinized metal 2by 4?

    • @askthebuilder
      @askthebuilder  10 років тому

      You use small self-tapping screws. You can cut them with an abrasive saw or snips.

    can I replace my regular pocket doors with French doors?

    • @askthebuilder
      @askthebuilder  8 років тому

      +Sophia Dallas You can if the hardware is rated for the weight.

      How do I determine if the hardware is appropriate

    • @askthebuilder
      @askthebuilder  8 років тому

      +Sophia Dallas You contact the manufacturer. If you don't know who it is, then you gamble. If you lose and ruin the trolleys and track, then you replace the system with the best made in the USA - LE Johnson. They make, hands down, the BEST pocket door hardware track, trolleys, etc. Good luck. If you need more help, you can talk to me on the phone:

      I currently have pocket doors and want to replace with some french doors. What hardware-rollers brand you recommend
      I rcvd an estimate of $300 to switch out the door. Does that semester appropriate price?

    check that. 2:45 "why the door will never come off the track..." Oh contrare my friend...That is why i'm watching this video...my kids found a way to knock the door off of the track. Honestly they are little gemlins! I already have realized that the trim was installed after the door, but still struggl'n.

    • @askthebuilder
      @askthebuilder  4 роки тому

      Uh, you have inferior door hardware. You don't have a triple trolley - I'm sure you have a single track with two wheels that glide in the track. Watch the video again to see how it's impossible for the trolleys to come off the dual-track design

    • @natec913

      @@askthebuildernegative. i have the triple trolley system just as the one in the video. if you would like to visit kansas i can show you the door and hardware. while you are here you can meet my kids and then you will understand how they managed to get the door off of the track

      Not with an LE Johnson setup. You have an inferior two-wheel trolley.

    5:27 looks like a bit of twist in the bottom of that jamb post. I do like pocket doors but they can be a challenge when you need to have wiring in those walls. Thanks.. Regards - Randy

    • @askthebuilder
      @askthebuilder  10 років тому

      What you see are two walls that are not in the same plane. The pocket door wall that extends towards the front door is one wall. The other wall is part of an interior hallway. It's a very subtle angle, but you can see if as you did. If there's a slight twist in the stud that happens post rough construction, you can shim the finish jamb to compensate for the shrinkage twist that creates the propeller. :-) Good eye watching this video. Congrats on that!

    • @whiskeycreek4038
      @whiskeycreek4038 10 років тому

      I thought so too, but the remaining wall runs at a slight angle down the hall. Optical illusion.

    • @Big-Foot-Randy
      @Big-Foot-Randy 10 років тому

      You're right Brien.. I had not noticed the angled wall. I just thought it was another propeller from H*me Dep*t masquerading as a stud... God knows I've bought plenty of those.. Of course they were straight when I selected and loaded, but 3 days later..
      Thanks for pointing that out!

    "Impossible for the trolly to come out of the track... because once installed you have your wood over here because the sidewalls of the track are solid metals (sic)"?
    It looks as if the trolly could roll right back out the end of the track! Of course, because the trolly is eventually connected to the top of the door, the door stops first. The trolly ain't going nowhere, right?

    • @askthebuilder
      @askthebuilder  4 роки тому

      Of course. How do you think you get the trolley into the track?????

    • @margueriterizzo7925
      @margueriterizzo7925 Рік тому

      You are right the trolley can roll out the end of the track, until the other piece gets inserted, and tightened down. As he showed, he stopped before it would have dropped out. Not good to tell people it can’t rollout when it so obviously can. I have this door I’m installing right now.
