    Someone who doesn’t pay for UA-cam, let me know if you see ads that aren’t skippable and if there’s any mid-video. Thanks

    You could use the wool blankets to make my wearable sleepingbag thsts double walled so you can stuff it with improvised insulation like leaves, boughs etc. it would take up half the weight and space as all those blankets but be more useful

      I think I’d just do that with linen. But I love the things you develop.

    In regards to the broken handle on your pan, I say a guy who had a pan like yours and he would notch a handle out of a tree branch. He figured it save a little weight and the thickness of his saw was the right width for the groove in the limb to fit the pan.
    Great set up!
    A bit jealous here!

    Looking forward to seeing the finished video! Great idea on the hand warmers to keep the phone warm. That’s quite the load out for a hike, so it’s good it’s a short one. I 100% agree on taking a reliable and fast means of personal protection, going out alone with predators nearby. I watch a Scottish channel that does some historical camping from the 17th century, but he usually takes a camera man or another you tuber with him. How often would frontiersmen in the west be out alone?

    • @OverOnTheWildSide
      @OverOnTheWildSide  9 місяців тому

      I got the hand warmers idea from the Outdoor Boys channel, can’t claim the good idea as my own.
      I’ll probably end up taking this stuff in three loads. I took a couple blankets and a few other things today…
      The Scottish guy is great, I was thinking of him too.
      On the frontier there were often guys alone. My main inspiration writes of many trips he made by himself.

      @@OverOnTheWildSideI used to live next to a rostary a few years back so I'm kinda addicted to freshly roasted coffee. Nowadays I usually order online from rozalicoffee or similar shops. The roast usually isn't older than maybe a week or so when you order at a good shop.

    I love the process of minimilising your kit, my next camp will be a car camp but i will be sure to limit myself to a medium size pack and not just fill my car with stuff i wont need.

      Thanks, I’m surprised at how much the cooking videos are liked. The problem is I’ve minimized my diet big time.
      Right now I have beef from one I butchered so it’s pretty much just that and sometimes bread and rice.
      But maybe this spring I can throw in some native edibles…

    Maybe put some insulation between the phone and the hand warmers to avoid overheating the phone. Those things probably get over 50°C

    Nice kit. What is the total weight of blankets?

    • @OverOnTheWildSide
      @OverOnTheWildSide  9 місяців тому

      Roughly 5 pounds apiece, so 20 pounds altogether. Which is fine for horseback but for trekking makes them pretty impractical.

      @@dallasfl no problem, I don’t mind questions. I find them on Fb marketplace primarily. $50 is a good deal now, $100 is fairly common. I definitely wouldn’t go over $100 myself though.
