- This is the second part of my mission to save this Jaguar X-type. I bought this car sight unseen in auction, purely based on the auctioneer's description, however the car turned out to be a lot worse than i had expected!
Check out the first episode for a walkaround and list of all of the issues that this car has.

Johnny it is NEVER long enough of an episode. You should be WAY above 100K soon
Thank you! Fingers crossed!
The Grey Rover as well as this one really give me a sense of WANTING these cars.
This one needs way more love and work, care and attention, but the sensation is the same
"what a beautiful beast!"
Thank you! She will be great again very soon!
Really good work Johnny 👍 Glad we could help you out with the panels. Looking forward to seeing how it turns out.
Thanks again, all the best with the race car build!
Shocking filler that thick , was wondering when your doing more videos on the grading up to a super car ? Cheers Johnny love the content 👍👍
Thank you! In terms of Chop To The Top, as that’s a ‘spare time’ project for me it has taken a bit of a back seat lately whilst I’ve had so much on but I will endeavour to put up a new episode and kitty update within the next few weeks!
Can't wait mines gone down hill 😂😂😂😮
Hi Johnny , really enjoy seeing you carrying out various repairs on your vehicles, always great attention to detail, just fantastic
Thank you!
Yipppeee having my sunday dinner whilst watching my favourite youtuber
Thanks for watching!
Can't help but admlre your resilience to whatever comes up. Great work attitude.
That’s the only way to be, right?! 😂
It's coming on in leaps and bounds, I can't wait for the next episode. Definitely a car worth saving, well done.
Thank you, lots to do still but it’s getting there!
That damaged area down the side looks like it had been a result of a vehicle dragging into it, perhaps a narrow road whilst the Jag was parked up?
However it was caused, to me it was like you’ve got the ATeam music cranked up and off you go. Banging, sanding and stapling to get the desired result. Now it’s ready for paint. Awesome job from sourcing new parts to getting them attached. Can’t wait for the next episode.
As always enjoyable content Johnny. Look forward to seeing how both the bumpers turn out. All the best 👍🏻
Great fun to watch, looking forward o the next one.👌👌
Greatings from Brazil my friend!
Really great and inspiring work as a.ways Johnny. I am really glad you got the door and wing in colour, that makes a huge difference on a car that old. Thank you, and congratulations.
Thanks!
Great explanation for the bumper repair! Great vid, I really enjoy this type of tidy up for a noble car. The best for you Johny!
That's not timelapse either, thats just how he works 😂
Thank you, I’m glad you enjoyed it!
@@JohnnyGetsCash 👌🏻
when you bought this one and posted the last video I was so hoping you would try to save it, honestly this colour and interior is probably one of the only combo's i like given the leather colour on the seats. My only gripe and this is just a personal thing is the wood inside, and the steering wheel but that is just personal taste. This car I am sure is going to be banging when you've finished it.
Thanks, I think by the time I’m finished, she will look every inch as regal as the day she left the Jaguar showroom in 2008!
Interesting investigation of the damage..
I've got the same car in the same colour, 2.2 auto estate on 156k miles. Just done the sills and underside, brakes, tyres. Full MOT no advisories
I learn a lot from these videos the attention to detail not just in the work you do but how you video it and explain it is excellent. PS That filler was in it's way a masterpiece!
Thanks, that’s great to hear! I agree, the filler work here to a decent amount of skill to get done so well, more skill than would’ve been required to a proper repair!
That was very good and very informative, wish i was mechanically minded like you are!, btw my x type has the washers on the bumper too but mine is SE spec so you might have gotten one of those as theres more of them about :)
Recently bought a 2.2 auto estate (clean body) still working through it bit by bit ie parking sensors rear tailgate micro switch etc etc , however the one thing so far to make a huge difference was to strip egr valve manifold pipes etc to have a good clean off the car …auto box is totally transformed smooth quick changes. Also map sensor clean.
Appreciate the heads up. For all this cars initial flaws, I can’t criticise the way it drives. It’s very smooth and powerful. A genuine pleasure to drive!
Excellent vid as always. Glad you have decided to give the xtype a chance. I had a 2008 2.0d saloon and it was a fantastic car 👌
I think lots of people probably think I’m mad for doing it but this car really deserves another chance!
You are so clever fixing the bodywork on vehicles. We'll done.
Thank you!
Excellent work 👏
Thank you
Coming on nice mate.
Filler has its place, but not when it's in centimetres thick 😮
It’s almost an impressive achievement at this point!
@@JohnnyGetsCash it certainly took some talent to be that bad and also good 👍
Great job as always. I wish i was your first neighbor Johnny, i love dogs :). Good that you are fixing the cracked bumper and not trying to source out another one god knows when.
Nice long video, thanks johnny!
Thank you for watching!
Wow, well done Johnny! You really show some skills here. That amount of filler used... what would they have expected back then...
It’s crazy, but I guess they just weren’t worried about the repair long term?!
That door was previously replaced as well! It used to be grey! I'm pretrty sure that car has further damage
Possibly correct on the door but the jamb is totally straight and free of filler, as is the rear passenger door and the inner wing, so I am confident that the damage was isolated to the door and the wing 👍
Totally agree on the repair strategy for the rear bumper! Did you not change over the exterior door lock barrell on the front door though, to avoid having different manual keys?
Good spot! Yes this has been done 👍
Hi Johnny, wondering where you get the slip-on safety boots you wear? Many thanks.
These are Dewalt Nitrogen dealer boots. I’m not sponsored or anything but I virtually live in them - the best boots out there in my opinion!
Hi Johnny, could you do a video demonstration on how to check a car over before purchasing. Just for anyone who wants to purchase a car privately, the process you would follow before purchasing, such as checking engine, gear changes etc
That’s a good idea. I know there are bound to be a few good guides out there already but maybe if I were to do it I’d come from more of a trade buyers perspective…🤔
@@JohnnyGetsCash exactly, i have watched a few and they are way off, dont even cover basic checks Hpi etc
Time lapse is definitely the way to go 😅😅😅😅😅😅
Hey Johnny - what are you using on your wheel to get the gaffer tape off and to scuff the paint please. So good to see your channel grow so fast. Great video editing. Thanks
In this video I was using a D/A air sander with a 120G disc to knock back the paint / old tape residue👍
@@JohnnyGetsCash Thanka so much Johnny :)
Neat work
Can you show us (at normal speed) how you go about doing the smart repair Inc mixing of the paint for the air brush please.
I will aim to put together a how to on air brush work at some point. It takes a bit of practice to get effective results but once mastered it’s an invaluable skill to have when restoring cars like this 👍
@@JohnnyGetsCash look forward to it Johnny👍👍
that right hand rear light unit looks like it has some gunk in the bottom of it where a seal has failed?
I’ll have to take a look at that & check!
cool. you done a great job on the paintwork btw!@@JohnnyGetsCash
Good job , beautiful doggie
Thank you!
We can all clearly see where Johnny gets his cash from, but what I really want to know is where does Johnny get his bucket loads of energy and enthusiasm from ? Lol Do all those repairs, record and edit a video about it and get a haircut ; all in couple of days- wow
One word…Coffee 😂 thanks for watching!
Hello bro 😎 hope you are well?
Leaving a comment for @Rolliemania to see if stalking me here 😂
What was the point surely would be cheaper to have put a new wing on.
My thoughts exactly!
I am about 28.5 mins through the video and all I am thinking is, if only rubbing down was that quick in real life. I worked in a bodyshop for years and I wouldn't like to guess how many hours I spent rubbing things down adding small bits of filler and rubbing it down again. 😭😭😭😭😭
It’s certainly a big job sometimes, but as you will know, it’s all about proper preparation so there’s no alternative other than to just knuckle down and do it!
Hasn't been in a collision!!!!! How did it get 10 litres of body filler 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 the mic failed like the filler 😂😂😂😂😂😂
A collision would infer a high speed contact, I.e fast enough ti damage the inner wing or structure of the car. That’s not the case here. The filler failed due to being damaged again (the mic failed due to battery drain!) 👍
Probably the rear door is also full of filler 😅
Having magnet checked it and given it a close inspection it would appear not!
Johnny Johnny Johnny it's a 2008 X type Jag ,,,,Why just why oh why ?
I do love an underdog, plus a one owner, less than average mileage, high spec diesel Jaguar is good stock where I am based!
@@JohnnyGetsCash Bravo for you sir to each ....Sounds like just the place find a spanner man called Nobby even if only the Clarke with a "E" type who enjoy Race caring up Old Jags...God bless them and the King Dick box spanners !
Surely it must be more time consuming to whack an all that filler in and rub it down ect.. worst I’ve seen , but as you say they done a good job just not the right way. 👍🏻
Baffling right?!
Actually a skilled filler bodger 😂
Ironically in this case, the bodge took more skill than a proper fix would’ve done…
