I’ve had several Rolexes through the years and was in the market for a Skydweller SS with the blue face but they are literally impossible to find unless you are willing to pay almost double list out on eBay. I saw one of these IWC at my local dealer over the weekend and was blown away by the quality, the heft and feel. And it’s less than half the price of the Skydweller. It’s going to be my next watch purchase in a few months.
@@hhanger1 Have had mine for a little over two months now… The accuracy of the movement is insane! Over the past three days I’ve only lost just barely over two seconds. Congrats on picking up such an amazing watch!
I bought this watch when it was first refreshed in 2016. Fantastic watch, don’t knock it just for the movement. Might be the best pilot chronograph on the market. The dial can look both matte and sunburst at the same time, stunning in person. Super crystal clear to read, crisp finish under macro.
Agreed. Nothing to turn your nose up at. Chrononeter grade, 6 position adjusted, proven caliber, simple service, all housed in a faraday shield. Appropriately priced
I think it was the best Version which was produced between 2016-2018. The box and the dial have been changed from 2019 and the sunburst effect on the dial has been reduced. So the contrast between the main dial and the sub dials has decreased. Overall, in the sunlight, the dial looks brighter and bluer than the older in a nice way. But there is less light games on the dial now, and mighty visual effects of the sunburst dial shortened.
Super excited for this watch! Dare I say, I think it looks better on the leather strap, at least for 1k less. Would love to see more of the Big Pilot (or how this compares next to the Big Pilot even if it the BP is out of its price league!)
This watch is great. Very bold. I owned the black dial previously. That pop of red on the second hand completely made the watch for me. It would have been bland if it was just black and white. Perhaps the best clasp out there. Could be prone to accidental pressing of the button but look how small it is and thin. Omega clasps are huge and thick/bulky. I have a 6.5 inch wrist and it was just a little too big and all dial for me. Great watch, great presence and I really enjoyed my time with it. On a side note I wish watch shops would let you take off the plastic. True they may take a 1000.00 hit or something but a thousand dollars for getting their watch out there and name out there on channels that have 75k subscribers seems like the cheapest advertising you can get. These are more like highlights, viewings or examinations vs reviews. Love the wrist rolls outside. Always my favorite parts to your vids Bruce.
The IWC bracelet is amazing. I was looking at the MarkVIII and tried this on. The dial is epic. Tough with both of these because the bracelet is a massive uncharge and they both look really good on the very high quality leather. But, the bracelet is soo good and worth it if you ask me. The boutique offered me the leather as a free accessory if I bought on bracelet. Great shirt BW!
The lume should not be looked at as disappointing, they do that for a reason. The legibility with lume styled that way in pitch black lighting after it has faded for hours is far more legible than watches with fully lumed indexes
Bruce, you explore so many watchbrands and different watchmodels in a fantastic way, my hats of to you! That’s what Many true watchenthusiants do! You’re a great enthusiant, Bruce!!👍🏻😍
That Breitling in blue is just awsome. Iwc’s bracelet is one of the best out there. Request to see: Tudor double date.... (can’t blame me for keeping on trying!)

Love my IWC Pilots Chrono LPP on bespoke leather strap - takes pride of place in my collection alongside the Sinn 103 sa B E, Speedmaster Sapphire Sandwich, Tudor Pelagos LHD, Sinn 856 S UTC and Nomos Tangente 38.
I haven’t handled much iwc , but when at the ad their quality immediately stands out even through the display case . Finishing and execution as good or better than any sport watch including Rolex omega etc . This model I’ve always been drawn to the blue and what I think is great legibility for a Chrono something I really value . Bracelet and clasp is excellent. One area I see for improvement would be wr , with that screw down crown I’d love to see it bumped up 100m . It’s on my list of consideration for my first chronograph . Thanks for the review Bruce .
Hi Bruce, I just saw this video and I agree this IWC le petit is so under the radar. I own a pre owned iwc aquatimer IW3719 28 and I would love yo get your view on it as it is also another IWC that is not as well known. I personally love it as it is so Swiss german. Thanks and keep doing what you doing. Cheers, Wayne
This could be a perfect addition to your collection Bruce. Knowing that you like bracelet over straps, this one is definitely worth it. But if you decide to go for it then be on the lookout for a pre-owned model from couple of years back when they had clasp with perlage finishing.
Ohh also my suggestion is IWC Spitfire Mark 15 with the silver dial 3 hand model. Raised markers, wearable size and a little different. Pilot watch but higher end features. And sooo pretty :-)
I was looking at this model very hard, but for the price and the specs I decided to go with the Longines Spirit Chrono in blue on bracelet. It's a lot of watch for a little less than half the price of the IWC, could argue it has better specs across the board.
Wow - what a beautiful watch, especially that blue dial! 😍 Great to see they integrated a very nice integrated/tool-less micro adjust system into the bracelet clasp - I wish all brands would offer this feature! Thanks for the balanced review as always 👍
I love the dial and the bracelet. But I feel the movement is underwhelming for the price compared to what Omega offers in the new moon watch (or really any of their watches).
I haven’t seen one in person yet. My experience is that Omega has very good QC. Better than Rolex and Tudor when it comes to the small things like dial alignment. I think the sharp edges thing is probably BS. That’s what others are saying anyway.
@@BruceWilliams Well, I suspect that's not true, but would have to see one in person. Looks great in pictures! I'm thinking of buying one but no ADs open around here right now due to perpetual and stupid lockdowns.

One of the great books of all time. Please make sure, if you read the english translation, to find Katherine Woods' version from the early 40's. So much better than the pathetic later translation. The author, Antoine De Saint Exupery died in ww2 flying a P-38.
Love the watch. The only problem is that this watch has a identity issue. Specially since IWC also offers the iconic portugieser chronograph on this segment. And also few different pilots watches (which are arguably more iconic). I want to add an IWC to my collection and even I am having hard time picking just one!!
Hi Bruce , great video! I would be interested in a review of the IWC Portugieser 7 Days (the one with the silver white dial and blue numerals), which I think is another stunning piece of IWC.
Hi, I have it too and I love it. I have problems by setting the time, as the crown needs a lot of pressure to be taken out for the time setting in position 2. Did you realize it too or do I have to do a full service? Many thanks, Peter. It's now 6 Years old without service
This looks almost identical to my Alpina quartz chronograph with day date feature, even the chamford edges and the chrome bezel around the sapphire is identical
I don’t get why 21mm lugs is a thing, it’s not really that far off 20 or 22, and I’m not sure if it’s even a cost saving decision. Going up or down wouldn’t warp the proportions too much. Solid video as always, just a bit high and price for what you get in my humble opinion.
I would assume as a designer they create with ratios and aesthetics in mind. Then the brand would also rather you buy their own straps than other lesser priced 3rd party makers.
I always loved that watch-the blue dial is beautiful- is it just a tad too big? - maybe I have an older IWC 3706 at 39mm that is such a great pilot watch at a reasonable pre-owned price
Great looking watch, shame about the size. I tried on the Spitfire chrono, if it wasn't so big I'd have seriously considered snapping it up on the spot.
When the second hand is at the top (12) - I would expect the minute hand to be “exactly” on a segment / division - is it just that you have not set the minute hand “precisely” for when the second hand reaches “12” ? I can not bear to see a watch with the minute hand between 2 divisions like in your video - is it you ? me ? or the watch ?
I had it as soon as it was released back to 2016, it’s so nice... after the honeymoon i faced the reality it’s too big even if my wrist is not too small 17 cm and i am a tall and robust guy, its heavy. Then decided to buy a strap a blue alligator one from iwc, again i was happy but few days later i was really convinced that it’s too big, you don’t feel comfortable with it it’s too thick too, so i didn’t wear it again just had it on my wrist at home time to time because it’s really nice looking. After 5 years I’ve decided to sell it last month. Conclusion now you can find the chrono spitfire in 41 with in-house mouvement it’s much better regarding the size and fits better but doesn’t exist in blue. I am waiting for iwcto release the petit prince version( blue) in 41 and i will definitely buy it, it will be awesome but 43 in iwc is not a real 43 it’s more like 45/46.
There’s been a lot of discussion/questions as to how much IWC actually re-works the Valjoux 7750 ebauches. Either way, beautiful watch but quite expensive for a mass produced movement. A cheaper option would be a Hamilton Khaki Automatic Chronograph. Although not as refined as the IWC, it’s still quite nice for the price.
I would definitely not be interested in the Hamilton. IWCs movement is chronometer grade, 6 position regulated, and housed in a Faraday cage. Better design, history, dial details, bracelet, arc. The only thing about the same would be the weak lume
I understand your position. Perhaps my post was misunderstood. I concede that the movement in the IWC is superior in terms of accuracy and embellishments but at the end of the day, it’s still a Valjoux 7750. Are the extras done to the movement worth supplemental money, that’s entirely up to the buyer. The Hamilton was never meant to be a direct comparison to the IWC but rather an alternative. I’d say it’s also a little dismissive to say that Hamilton doesn’t have any history as they’ve been around since the late 1800s and are known for military inspired watches. Either way, I love the IWC but can’t see myself purchasing one at full retail; to each their own. Nice review by the way. 👍
@@marcosjivest988 Thanks. I meant history as a pilot watch. The IWC has a unique claim to this dial layout being one of the original manufactures of the flieger design in the 40s. Hamilton has some military history too, but not the chrono you mentioned as a better option. I agree to each their own

I have 1 question I decided to purchase watch but I don’t know which one is best, 1- IWC pilot chronograph 41mm ( IW388102) or 2- Tudor black bay Chrono S&G or white or black color , you think which is best and good looking & which movement is better ??? Thank you so much. Have a nice day.
Iwc is miles better, Tudor are no where near iwc, I would buy the iwc without hesitation.
@@coffeeboyclips1973 thank you so much..
It looks really really sick
I'd love me a Le Petite Prince.
That sounded wrong.
Nice vid though.
Hey Bruce love your vids!where is your air king?did you flip it?
Yes, it helped me get the VC
Please can you review the new IWC 41mm Pilot Chrono (in green)
does it have a vertical clutch if not whats the movement
Very nice watch.
Wow! That's Beautiful..
Bruce, if you had to pick between the Le Petit Prince and a Speedmaster Professional, which one would you choose?
I own the sapphire sandwich and I don't own the IWC... so that would have to be my answer
@@BruceWilliams difficult decision I will say
Imo iwc is a level above Omega, iwc all the way
Love your content
Can you share what camera you use for the close up shots?
Cannon SL2. Forget which lens. Its the affordable cannon macro one
@@BruceWilliams thank you!
