Very nice job. Good instructions, plus it's great to see a turner who cuts rather than scrapes! Well done. It's a shame you didn't put in a plug for your very innovative depth gauge that you were using with the parting tool at the lay-out stage. It's a great tool and more turners should be made aware of it.
I use a detail gouge to cut the cove and roll the beads and then a skew to clean up the cuts. I have an article in issue 232 of Fine Woodworking that details the beginning steps of learning to turn and there will be two more articles to follow. Good luck with your turning. Pete
@deezynar That caliper you invented is not something to be ashamed of, plug it with pride as a public service to turners everywhere. Your gauge is a big improvement over any other that's available. It has a large, vivid dial, that's in direct view of the turner while he's holding it with a natural grip. Any serious turner should instantly recognize the tool's unique virtues, but it doesn't hurt to point them out either.
What tool is that you used to size down the turning?
It's the Galbert Caliper, available at my website www.petergalbert.com
@deezynar
thanks for the comment. I suppose I'm a bit shy about shamelessly plugging my caliper, but I appreciate you noticing and bringing it up!
