Rouses did not panic. They were narced out while breathing air at 230'. They couldn't afford to dive trimix. Their minds were clouded and they were unable to think clear and make correct decisions. After freeing Chrissy they could not located their stage bottles. Their choices came down to either surfacing without deco or drowning. Chris Rouse died in the water before even making it on board of Seeker (the dive boat); he was officially pronounced dead in the hospital 2 hours after surfacing. Though Chrissy was getting better being in a re-compression chamber, he died 4 hours after surfacing. According to autopsy records Chrissy died because his heart ventricles were full of blood and nitrogen foam. Hence, the heart was unable to pump the blood effectively.
They were responsible for their own deaths. I can't believe you would imply any different. No body forced or coerced them. They chose to dive. That's it!
There should ALWAYS be emergency supplies tied off at deco stops. ALWAYS. For the safety team not to do so was a VERY poor choice. Same with not having an underwater communication system....At these 2 deaths could've been prevented
I don't understand why they did not look into the other boats that Horenburg served on and what happened to them. Is it not possible that he may have left his knife on a boat he served on?
You believed that there was something on that wreck of great value..........Was there , did you find it, was it worth the loss of life?....I guess we will never know the real truth.
The real truth is that there are very few old, bold men. That's just a fact of life. What they found brought peace of mind to a crewmember who wasn't on that last voyage. There are people who die all the time recreational diving to make glamorous tv shows, to pick up trinkets or to beat one world record or another. Which is better, to take those kinds of risks for the sake of compassion, or to take those kinds of risks to get yet another trophy for the cabinet or to make yet another cheesy nature film?
My best guess is if they cut a hole in the submarine something could fall on them and they’d end up like the father and son That and the pressure hull is like an inch thick so yeah good luck cutting that thing open
+Andersp90 To Bill Jenkins: Death claimed those responsible for the accident or mistakes that were made. Life is fatal, these men accepted the risks and took the chance. Unfortunatly they paid the price but I would guess they relished the excitement that their risks offered.
How much dedication these divers provided... . Thank you for your efforts .
Damn, RIP to all those lost diving it and originally on it.
Thank you for posting this. The book was great, btw.

Someone should have been held responsible for these deaths. 3 lives were not worth whatever could have been discovered by diving that wreck, IMHO.
Each person is responsible for themselves. No one twisted their arm. Why does every tragedy have to be someones else's fault .

I don't see the reason for taking these risks. It's foolhardy, let the dead sleep.
It wasn't for the dead. It was for the living. And for the living, it's worth the risks.
John appears💃😆
I feel sorry for the divers

If they only cut a hole in the hull of the sub then no one would have died ZZZ
Poorly planned dive. No comm lines, no string of backup tanks, no onboard decompression chamber.
Poor excuse for sacrifice human lives.
lipiomott2 you lost the plot mate stick with your tv
So I guess the use of an under water blow torch type device to cut an entrance at the other end of the submarine is not an option?

😂🤔
So 3 people died, diving on that wreck?
Yes, Steve Feldeman, Chris Rouse, Chris Rouse Jr

+Nathan Bowman Although Chris Rouse Jr preferred Chrissy, and died in a decompression chamber in hospital after getting the bends
