Don't you think it's rather ironic that the reading teacher, who wears glasses, couldn't suspect that Ugey might be nearsighted? Thank god for the math teacher and eventually the elderly neighbor.
This was one of my favorite stories from the series. It really points out how something like a pair of glasses can be a luxury in these third world nations.
The show's original airing may had been in early 1989 because of the 1984 PBS ID was shown at the end. The CGI id premiered in the start 89/90 season circa Oct. Not that it was recorded at home 1990, most likely it was a local rerun by the PBS station that used the master tape taken during the original satellite feed. I loved the open to the show, the show itself was too deep for my intelligence in the early 90s, when I would run into this show.
wow, along with The Man Who Planted Trees, this was my favorite episode of Long Ago and Far Away. i have this one taped on VHS and was actually just thinking about trying to figure out how to transfer it to my computer and upload it, but the quality of my tape is quite poor. this series was huge for me as a kid, and i'm really glad to see someone putting these previously impossible to find episodes up on youtube.
Thank you so much for uploading these!

Hmm, I had no idea this program did live action. I thought they only did animation.
Yea they did this one, The Sleeping Princess, and The Silver Cornet.
Do you have The Silver Cornet?
