  • In this video I show you how to start, and end a 4 strand round braid around a core using a Buckle. It's not the best way, but its the best way i've found to do it. If you find a better way please feel free to make a video response and show it to me as i'd like to know how!

I love the way you make this necklace. I am making collars, bracelets and now this necklace to sell to raise money for animal rescues. Would you please tell me how to figure out the length of cord to use for the braiding? Also my first attempt was not pulled tight enough, but I will pull tighter next time. Thanks for the video it looks great.

Allot of people asking how to figure out how much cord they needed for this project. I just attempted this using two 4 foot sections of working cord. From that I got a 7 in. rope. That means I used just under .60 feet per inch. So take .6 and multiply it by the length your working with. That should give you a measurement (in feet) of how long EACH working cord should be. Remember, you need 2 sections of cord that length (ex. a 25in. rope needs 2X15ft sections of working cord + the 50in. core).

What I missed is how long are the cords used in the braid?

I don't remember but it depends on wut size necklace you wish to make. I suggest you take 2 feet of each color, find the middle and do the braid. whatever you have at the end of tying process will be your formula. So for example you take 2 feet of each color and tie a braid. If you get 1 foot then you know how much cord you would need for a 2 or 3 foot tied piece.

I didn't use a standard buckle for this piece, it's actually a buckle from Phiten who makes the actual baseball necklaces. I purchased them from "Bucklerunner" if you search google you'll find their site. Thanks for watching!

It has many names. Some call it a Perma Lok Needle, others call it a Fid. You can get them from amazon and the one in the video is a Jumbo Perma Lok needle from Tandy Leather. Also you can google the paracordist's store he sells Fids as well. =) Thanks for watching and commenting tho!

Not quite sure why I never responded to your comment, and for that I apologize. I use a Jumbo XL Perma Lok needle in thie video. It's a bit small for paracord so you gotta really cut the cord at an angle to get a good sharp point to get it in there. I prefer using using Paracord needles made for the cord type which is made in 3/16th diameter and is 3" long. works awesome.

What size Perma Lok Needle did you use? I ask because when I do an Amazon.com search for Perma Lok Needles, I see they come in various diameters such as 1/8, 5/32, 1/4 and 3/32.

I'm trying to make a 4 strand round braid paracord dog leash. I can get the braid and handle no problem. How do you attach the 4 loose ends to the clip? Best I can figure is just tying 4 separate knots but that looks like crap. Thanks for any help you can give.

Just splice the ends back into the braided section.

4 strands for the braid, 2 strands as the core.
