    Slate AX (GL-AXT1800) : amzn.to/3Klc1y2
    This video is to showcase 3 different travel routers I have come to own over the past 5 years and talk a bit about them.
    I plan on making more in-depth reviews/features video for each one showcasing their strengths and weaknesses as honestly as possible, so all my viewers can find the best router that fits their own needs.
    Please feel free to ask me any questions about them.

    Great video. Right now I'm trying to decide between the Beryl and the Slate AX.. mostly travel with a family so it's use would be at hotels. To connect iPads, a laptop, cell phones. Currently have NordVPN. Looking forward to your next video or any recommendations you have between the two

      Hey Robert, I will try to make a video for both models this weekend going over the information you requested. Would you want to see the UI as well?

      I have the same decision to make. I don't really understand why they removed the sd-card slot in Beryl AX, because I want to use this mostly in the car as dlna server for on old iPad on the backseat. So I have to decide between Beryl and Slate AX , and am afraid the Slate AX needs too much power (really 5V 4A?) and ist too big and bulky , wheras the Beryl maybe has to slow cpu power and old software ?! but is on the other hand much cheaper

    Hello from Canada!
    I have the Slate AX router and it's been very useful for our travels (me and my dad went on a road trip recently to Ottawa and Montreal - both cities are in Canada).
    I used that router as a repeater to securely connect the hotel's wifi with our devices.
    I'm considering getting the Beryl AX as an upgrade in terms of portability, etc. - but the Slate AX would be enough for my case.

    • @TechWithT
      @TechWithT  Рік тому +2

      Same I prefer Beryl AX for the portability and when using with a portable battery pack to achieve longer run time with slightly less power requirements.
      For every other scenario the Slate AX is my preferred device.

    Thanks for this video. So, do you recommend GL-MT3000 (Beryl AX) for travel and connect to public wifis (hotel, restaurants, airports...) even with no EAP support? (I honestly don't know in which scenarios EAP support is requested)

    • @TechWithT
      @TechWithT  Рік тому +3

      Yes absolutely i would recommend the MT3000 for the uses you mentioned. EAP feature that the Slate and Slate AX have are useful for when you have to login/connect to an organizations Wi-Fi using a set username and password.
      Plan to make more indepth video for all 3 and also a walk through video displaying all the new options features that are coming up with the upcoming firmware releases.

    Great video! Thanks. I have one of the earlier Beryl 1300. However, I want to upgrade. The question I have is the choice between the Beryl AX and the Slate AX. You mentioned EAP is not available on the Beryl AX. What is the advantage of the EAP? I didn't quite understand that point. I will be traveling but connecting to the same network credentials so that means I won't need to login to the SSID every time? Thanks!

    • @TechWithT
      @TechWithT  Рік тому +3

      EAP only benefits for those that connect to secured wireless network using a set of personalized username/password. In my experience it's mostly needed for corporate Wi-Fi networks where you connect using your work network/email username and password.
      Doesn't seem like EAP would be an issue in your use case. Beryl AX will allow your to save the SSID password for the network you connect to just fine and save it in its configuration so you don't have to keep doing so again and again.

      @@TechWithT Turns out we are using Azure and SSO. I went with the Slate AX (GL-AXT1800) which is on my desk as yet another project to tackle "soon." Thanks for the advice! It may be a bit of overkill but no big deal.

      @@TechWithT Thanks. All this "working from home" really translated into "working from anywhere." Thus, the idea of having a secure VPN tunnel and the "convenience" offered by this approach makes sense. I connect to my office via a LAN cable to this travel router with a VPN tunnel makes sense. Thanks, again.

      Wait….don’t most hotels and coffee shops use EAP? So Slate AX would be way more convenient than Beryl AX sine only Slate has this support?

    Hi, I setup a site to site vpn with flint as wireguard server and opal as wireguard client. I also tried opal as wireguard server and flint as wireguard client. In both cases, the max download speed is 10 mbps only. What could be wrong here? Do I need to use beryl or slate as a client?

    • @TechWithT
      @TechWithT  Рік тому

      Looks like Opal is limited to max 65 mbps for Wireguard and just 12 mbps over openvpn. I use Flint as my WireGuard server and can confirm it can hit almost 300 mbps (always over 200 mbps) when using Slate AX, Beryl AX, S22 ultra or iPhone 14 Pro max.
      So unless there are underlying network issues or the power supply isn't adequate Opal should hit 30-50 mbps still. If you need faster speeds then would recommend Slate AX or Beryl AX. You can always run wireguard client on a Phone, Mac or windows laptop to check network performance.

    Hello, I am going to be doing a server / client wiregaurd vpn while I travel. The server be at home in the US and the client will be on the other side of the world in SE Asia. I have the Beryl AX - love the fastness, really great device. Do you have a recommendation for a Glinet device to act as the server. I was considering Brume2 but the specs seem much slower, I was also considering another Beryl AX because I love my current one, but honestly open to any Glinet device. Do you have any insights or recommendations? Thanks :) P.S this is to live and work abroad (remote) while working for a US company. On top of setting this server / client VPN is there anything else I should do (turn off geotracking on my work computer? if so, how? or any other things I should look into?). Thanks again!

    Thanks so much for this video! Looking forward to your next in depth video about these. I am currently looking to get one myself and i am very confused as to which one to get. I am planning to use one to maintain a good internet connection for work whilst working from different locations outside my home and maybe potentially overseas.
    Oversimplifying things it seems to me that the slate ax outperforms the beryl ax. However i see many recent videos out there that recommend the beryl despite the slate ax being available (i am not sure if they just have not tested the slate ax and were satisfied with the beryl ax). With that in mind, is there anything that the beryl ax does better than the slate ax? or it clear cut that the slate ax is simply better in every way?
    Are there any reasons to recommend the beryl ax over the slate ax and what are those reasons?

      You are right. I have only ever ordered the AX1800 home router directly from them. All other purchases have been via Amazon for me. Especially during this time of the year amazon has return window till Jan 31st 2024. Might be the way to purchase and test if it's a good fit for you. Which router were you thinking about?

      Everything should be very easy to be setup given you aren't behind a firewall like a limited enterprise network that uses proxy based services. What's your use case scenario?
