    GET ROUTER FIRST
    1) Get on the cruise ship WIFI with your device (phone/desktop)
    2) Make sure the wifi is activated on the device you choose
    3) Plug in the router, and wait 1-2 minutes before attempting to connect to the Router
    4) Connect to the router with the default password on the bottom of Router (password is goodlife)
    5) In a browser, enter 192.168.8.1, Make your own admin password
    6) Click repeater, scan for the cruise Wifi (i.e. WonderofSeas/Carnvial Mardi Gras), connect to the cruise wifi
    7) Once you see success, disconnect from Router WIFI and go back to Cruise Wifi
    8) Go to settings and click the info next to the Cruise Wifi, find Private Wifi Address
    9) Copy Private Wifi Address/MAC, this should be 2 characters with : in between, get back on the Router WIFI
    10) Go to Browser, go to address 192.168.8.1, go to the top corner of the page, it will have drop menu
    11) Click MORE SETTINGS, then MAC CLONE
    12) Delete the area that says YOUR ROUTER and put in the Private WIFI address you copied
    13) Hit Apply and connect any device you want to the router now!
    Make sure you unplug the router when you leave the room if you still want to use your phone on the cruise WIFI.

      Got it setup fine using my home WiFi, connected 4 devices. Only problem I had was that I was unable to clone my MAC address (item 12). Is that a necessary step to be able the use while traveling (cruise, hotel, etc.)?

      @@Steven-n2y3yyou will have to be able to clone whatever MAC address you login into with.
      My cruise ships have a login with username and password. Once you do that they say your MAC address and that is how they know it is you.
      It will work fine at home as you aren’t logging onto something with username and password to get internet service.
      Hopefully that makes sense

    as of May 2024 this worked perfectly fine on Carnival cruise ships. was able to purchase 1 premium wifi plan and have as many devices as we wanted connected for a 7 day trip. Off the back of the new Starlink wifi on Carnival's fleet, the speeds were great too. was easily able to facetime family back home or watch 1080p video with no buffering.
    Also want to note that connecting this model router to a powerbank works to make it mobile on the entire ship. Batterylife is fantastic, a 10k powerbank was more than enough for a full day of power for the router. Only downside is you need to have a beltbag or a backpack to fit the entire setup into, but the form factor is not much larger than a book. For obvious reasons I wouldn't carry this around openly incase someone questions it.

      I’m glad that it worked out for you. Yeah I wouldn’t probably have the router out and about if you could avoid it. It will likely be one day where they will ban it if too many people know about it sadly.

    Thanks; So the key here is log on first with my iPhone, then copy my iPhone MAC address to the router so the ship net thinks the router is my iPhone? Will a tp-link ac750 clone a MAC address? Appreciated

    • @worldoftony469
      @worldoftony469  8 місяців тому +3

      This should not be an issue if you login with the repeater as it will copy your Mac address, so it won’t know if it’s your phone or your repeater. Basically, the Wi-Fi repeater is a clone of whatever you make it as it will be the same address that is linked to whichever Account is signed up for the Wi-Fi.

    Hello Tony, is the GL.iNet GL-SFT1200 similar to a Mobile WiFi Hotspot like GlocalMe Numen Air HyperConn which can connect to a nearest WiFi source and allow your own mobile devices like cell phones, laptops, tablets to connect to in order to get WiFi singles?

    • @worldoftony469
      @worldoftony469  8 місяців тому +2

      Would be similar as it would work as a hotspot but the router that is in the video acts like your phone’s clone when on the cruise. So when you log onto the cruise WiFi with the router it thinks it is your phone. Then you can use any other device once you connect to the router. It’s confusing but the router here is just repeating the signal and cloning your MAC address

  • @dirkaloha
    @dirkaloha 6 місяців тому +1

    Thanks for your post. Just a bit worried that the cruise lines will find a way to clamp down on this. What they charge for WIFI is a great money maker for them, like popcorn and soda at the movie theaters. I have been thinking of doing this on my next cruise. I have a similar model and will try cloning after connecting with my iPhone. I connected a travel battery charger as a source of power for the router and found that it uses very little power drain from the travel battery charger rated at 10000 mAh. I plan to place the router and travel charger in a small sack to stay connected to the ship's WIFI while out and about on the ship. This will allow those traveling with me throughout the ship with access to WIFI as well.

    How many devices would you say this would handle on a cruise? Basic browsing, email and maybe a little streaming. I'm looking at maybe 10 devices total. I'm just not sure this would handle the traffic of 10 devices and am thinking I may need one of the more expensive units with more speed. But I would much prefer this unit at this price point...

    • @worldoftony469
      @worldoftony469  7 місяців тому +2

      Honestly, 10 devices is going to be pretty taxing on the device. If you put 10 devices on a normal Wi-Fi router even with exceptionally good speeds and you are using them it’s going to slow them all down pretty bad. The Wi-Fi on most ships is not going to be extremely fast. I would think that, anywhere between 2 to 5 would be an acceptable amount if you were talking purely about speed and workflow.
      If the 10 devices are just scrolling through social media then it would likely be OK. If all 10 devices are streaming 4K video it’s probably not going to work well.
      Even with the more expensive routers/repeaters, it will likely not be as fast due to the speed of the WiFi on the ship.
      Hopefully that gives you an idea

    • @kinyun1
      @kinyun1 7 місяців тому +2

      @@worldoftony469 would you be able to just connect your phone to the router, then connect the router to the ship WiFi and use the routers MAC instead of cloning the phone MAC? Would that work? • @worldoftony469
      @worldoftony469  7 місяців тому

      So the only way to get away with this is if you connect the initial setup through the router. So right when you get on board the very first MAC address would have to be the one you setup. You could likely do this through a laptop or Ethernet cable but more than likely whatever you use to connect to the router will be the MAC address associated with WiFi account(ie laptop/phone)

    Great video! But I still don't understand why you need to clone the MAC address of your phone to the router. Why can't you just connect the router to the ship's wifi the first time around? I understand that I would only be able to use wifi in my cabin, not about on the ship. But even if I cloned the MAC address, wouldn't I still need to shut off the router before reconnecting my phone to the ship's wifi if I wanted to use is when out of the cabin? Also with the captive login, will that appear when I connect the router to the ship's wifi the first time....or when I am using a device connected to the router's signal after it has already been connected to the ship's wifi? Will I have to complete a captive login for each device I connect to the router? Thanks in advance.

    • @worldoftony469
      @worldoftony469  6 місяців тому

      You can connect the router first if that is how you want to approach it honestly.
      If the router is the what you used to connect FIRST you don’t have to disconnect the router.
      The only reason I did was I connected my phone first and used it to clone my address. So I HAD to unplug the router to use my phone WiFi on the ship
      If you connect the router first then you should only have to do the captive login once if you don’t disconnect
      Once the router is connected as you device it won’t need any captive login as long as you connect to the router with your own password kinda of like the WiFi at your house
      Moral of the story is connected the router’s MAC address makes your life easier once you know how to do it. It was easier for me to clone the mac address of my phone on my cruises as I already had them connected to the ship before I could even get to my room. I would have to logout of my phones then reconnect with the routers MAC which wouldn’t be too hard.
      Actually going to make another video soon as I did phone and router to connect. Thanks for watching. Hopefully that answers your question

    for the double mac address can't we just connect to the cruise wifi with the travel router first so it register the travel router mac address instead ?

    • @worldoftony469
      @worldoftony469  7 місяців тому

      The theoretically yes, but you would need to log onto the router with either a computer or your phone. Would likely take the computer or phone Mac address. If you do this with the router, you wouldn’t be able to use your phone WiFi around the ship. But if that does not bother you, then you could set it up this way. You would have to know separately, your phone or your computer Mac address and the routers address.

I am assuming more/less WONDEROTS GUEST, what password do I use (maybe the PIN)? • @aaroncarrillo7
      @aaroncarrillo7 5 місяців тому +1

      No router can have that type of distance, but you can power the router with an appropriate power bank. In a couple of weeks, I will be on the Crown Princess to Alaska. I have the Opal router $35, Anker PowerCore III Sense 20k Power Bank $40 and a 5 inch USB-C to USB-C cable $10. For around $90 I will be a traveling Private Wireless Network. This way my group of 15 people will all know that as long as they are in range of me, they will have internet on their phones. I just need to figure out how to carry them around. Total weight is less than 1.5 lbs. I'm just worried about heat if tossed in a crossbody bag.

    Anyone able to use this(or any other) travel router on a MSC cruise?

    • @worldoftony469
      @worldoftony469  8 місяців тому +1

      So this one is technically a Wi-Fi repeater, which is a subset of router. If you just bring a router on the cruise ship, it will not work as it will not repeat the signal. You should be able to use this on any Wi-Fi on any cruise ship as long as you have one Wi-Fi package. MSC notoriously can give you some free Wi-Fi but limits you on the minutes used so I would be careful unless you have a upgraded plan. The advantage of this is that you don’t have to purchase multiple packages but can use one package to have Internet to all of your devices.

    Don't see the point of this as you can hotspot your android mobile to achieve the same and you are not restricted to staying nearby your cabin where the router would have to be unless the signal is strong enough to cover the entire ship which I doubt. The primary phone can access ship's wifi anywhere and your partner just needs to be close by the hotspot phone.
