When I was struggling in the corporate world, I told people I was going to go to nursing school. I had several people told me I wasn’t smart enough and because of that I went to lvn school. I figured maybe it wasn’t as hard, boy was I wrong. I became a lvn.. I been a lvn for five years, after people telling me I wasn’t a real nurse I became a RN… now that I’m a RN I told one of my friends I want to to be a nurse anesthetists…..she basically told me I won’t be able to do it… I just got accepted into the program… moral of the story, just live your life and don't listen to people
I’m so sorry this happened to you. I’m going through the same thing. I’m making the switch from corporate to nursing but I was shocked when I found out the person who gave me the most negativity and told me I didn’t know what I was getting myself was a friend who was also pursuing nursing. As someone who’s started and stopped a couple of times due to finances, I’m starting again and not telling anyone outside of my child. I have to take my A&P I&II, and Microbiology over since it’s been over 5 years 😢. I don’t want to hear the woulda, shoulda, couldas, so I’ll remain silent. I start in 2 weeks, wish me luck! 🎊
This is exactly what I did with my ADN and BSN! They questioned it as if to say why are you doing both you can only do or be one or the other ... Holy Spirit said to me you can do all things through Christ... PERIODTT. Yes this happened to me! My family members told me I can’t make through a nursing college! Some said am too old to study others said I will not succeed 😢, that I will drop out.,some friend and family said is a scam ! God did it I wrote the entrance exam I was the best student I got admitted and am in my final year! Graduating September ❤❤❤❤

I went to nursing school, but I switched to education after having our daughter. I have my master's in education n working on my doctorate now. I will say I've been through the same thing with the jealousy of folks ( especially women) n the isolation. However, I became friends with the folks that I'm in college with. So, you may be lonely now, but u will make friends with others on your journey to success that are in the same boat as u that are experiencing the same thing as u.. ❤

I did the same thing. I was an LPN for 14 years and I graduated December 2023 and I passed the boards the first time in 2024 in 85 questions. Thank you Lord! RN is a great thing.

This! My setbacks stopped me for years, going to nursing school because I told people my dream. I got scared during the pandemic as well and got talk out of it with all the negative comments about nursing plus my finance and being a mother. I love Respiratory, you’re going to like that it’s less stressful. I chose nursing for the flexibility of being able to be anesthetic nurse and still having the option to work in the O.R. With weekends off.
I am 43 years old. I will go for an Associate's Degree in nursing part time while working full time. I passed the placement test and start prerequisites in Fall 2025. My wife of 21 years is against me going to school to become a nurse. She said it is the dumbest idea I ever had. Also, she keeps criticizing me for studying math in advance of school - she has a few times over the last week. I plan to start studying anatomy and physiology soon as well. I do study for up to 15 hours +/- each week, unless I have some other things going on, although generally it is while she is asleep, working, or otherwise engaged. I tried explaining this is to help ensure we don't waste money as the money will go down the drain if I fail at school. It may have helped when I told her it was recommended by the college as remedial. Technically, it is remedial in order to get a higher placement to qualify for 'college level algebra' which I do not need as I only need to take 'technical algebra and trigonometry', which is a lower level course. However, I want to ensure I am prepared well for the lower level course since I need to get A's and B's in math and anatomy and physiology I and II to qualify for nursing school. She is very closeminded. She is in a fundamentalist religion and is against college in general as the religion has continued to speak against higher education. Members of the religion have one of the lowest higher education levels overall. (I started researching the religion about 8 years ago mostly by reading books, listening to podcasts, and listening to lectures by college professors and determined it is false - she was not happy about that.) She is also against nursing as the religion prohibits blood transfusions of plasma, red blood cells, white blood cells, or platelets, even if a costs a member their life and prohibits doctors and nurses from administering the blood transfusions as well. While I am against telling lies in general, I think there are exceptions, such as when a person's life is on the line. In this instance, I told her I would not administer blood transfusions since she is totally closed to reasoning on this topic. Admitting I do them, would lead to being shunned by family that are members of the church. Therefore, I chose to go along with her delusion, like you might with someone with advanced alzheimer's. She also does not like the idea of going into debt for it, although I pointed out that it will pay for itself within 2 years of when I start working due to the increased wages and sign on bonus. I also try to stress the ideas of thinking long-term and that we need to start planning for retirement better. (We just started 401k's 1 and 2 years ago as we never had the money in the past.) However, she thinks Armageddon will be coming soon, so planning for a future decades away with the world as it presently is is unthinkable to her. Also, planning for the future is a bit of a cognitive load, which is difficult for her and causes her anxiety. She does not like the idea of me having school on evenings and weekends and does not like the idea of me working overnight at the hospital in the future. She is also against the idea of me being a male nurse. I let her know like ~10% of nurses are male. She also says that I won't be hired because I am old. I told her that they really need nurses with a 20,000 shortage projected for our state. I started thinking of college recently due to changes in circumstances. First, I was homeschooled but took an extra 2 years to graduate as I was not made to work hard at schoolwork. Instead, I procrastinated and wasted time playing video games. However, I have made personal improvement, partly due to my jobs as well as the extra responsibilities of being a father, over the years and have a good work ethic now. Besides working fulltime, I take care of almost all of the cooking, dishwashing, laundry, and cleaning, which also contributed to my work ethic. Thank goodness for podcasts, audiobooks, text-to-speech, and UA-cam that I can listen to while handling chores, driving, and even during some of my work. My wife works part-time but she does sleep a lot and has anxiety. In addition, I was diagnosed with sleep apnea around 11 years ago. Using a breathing machine helps me to be better rested and accomplish more than in the past. Waking up from the religion was necessary. My son woke up from the religion last year as well without much influence from me. I planned on studying with him to point out many of the errors that were made by the religion at some point when he was old enough but he woke up on his own and we both left the religion last year. That was important to me. If I left before him, then he would likely have been lovebombed by the rest of the family and congregation to try to keep him within the fold and that could have resulted in him shunning me, or at least reducing our relationship, and would have kept him within the religion, which would have limited him from pursuing higher education and bettering himself. Since we left the religion, that freed up time for me. Since he is getting older as a teen, he naturally is more independent. That provides time savings to me as well although I still spend time with him. Since I have been at my present job for 11 years, I have a good amount of vacation time. Also, now evening and weekend classes are available to become an RN, something that was not available 20 years ago. The final thing was seeing how my parents and parents-in-law are doing financially after living their lives in the religion without adequately preparing for the future - not well. That gave me the impetus to do online research into what options are available. I seem to always wake up about 6 hours after I fall asleep so that gives me extra time for studying. After she said it is the dumbest idea I ever had, I asked, 'if it does work out like I think it will, will you admit you were wrong?' She said, 'that remains to be seen and we will cross that bridge if we come to it.' In conclusion, I guess I shouldn't have told my wife I am going to nursing school. LOL!

No, it would explain to time you will be spending away from home. Go for it! You got this! I’ve been with that religion, and I think I would have attended school earlier. But, I’m continuing on my LPN journey. I was researching even more today. Just the LPN License alone opens up so many more opportunities to make a lot more money. Go for it. I’ve been thinking about getting loans to be able to complete school. It is totally worth it. And I’m glad you would give your wife blood products to save her life. She could be mad later. I feel this I just passed my PN Nclex the same lady that cool with me now acts completely different towards me. Now that I have started training as a charge nurse on the floor in LTC facility that I have worked at as CNA & CMA for 15 years. This hit home for me and sad how ppl really treat you when u r trying to do better!! 2025 is bringing out the haters for real.
Agree. When working on a dream or goal, do it in silence. Find all the excuses in the world not to share. Limit the family members and friends (colleagues , close acquaintances etc) you share it with too. Some people don’t even realize that they are jealous: it’s like a demon inside them. Been following foe a while fam...appreciate the motivation and gems you drop..real quick...whst would you recommend to be the cheapest and best route..I'm currently going to community college..doing my basic..anatomy..micro etc...I want to get my bsn...so after I finish my prerequisites..I'm have to fund a nursing school..which in cali is tougj..they do point system. And most schools only accept 70ish students..and other are waitlisted...I'm just curious as to how maybe to navigate that..and come out financially good .I want to be an rn..but I don't want to come out 100k in debt either lol..any advice be greatly appreciated. My personal advice would be to let your hospital pay for it. I’m a PCT and My Hospital pays for my education at any college of my choice. I would say that, scholarships, or Pell grants. Blessings on your journey! ❤️✨
Why not get ADN first, so you can start working sooner? You can then work full time while doing RN to BSN program. In Pennsylvania, nurses start at $41 per hour plus shift differential at the local hospital in a rural area - that's $82k +/- per year plus a sign on bonus of at least $10k. Also, the hospital chips in $2-3k plus per year towards getting the BSN. You should make more in California but will pay more in housing etc. Personally, I am working full time and will go to technical college for 3.5 years for prereqs and nursing school to get an associates degree in nursing. Then I will do online classes for an extra 2 years to get a BSN while working as a RN. The college will be around $13k/year but I will get $1.5k in tax credit/year plus $2.5k/year or so from federal and state grants plus $2-3k/year from the hospital when I start working there. @@TAHJ1987Np, I do encourage you to get some form of certification behind your name. Whether it be phlebotomy, nursing assistant, medical assistant, or EKG technician. It helps with your resume and it allows you to gain a decent income while being in school.

It’s sad, but true. Over Xmas with my family (whom I don’t see together very often) not one of them bothered to even ask, how is school going or one word about my new journey. It was so sad to see even your own family isn’t rotting for you :/ which is why I always believed it’s better to keep quiet and grind.
Started with ADN 2003 finish second post masters may 2025. I stopped talking plans to immediate family after the ADN. It’s not for others to understand my why.

Yep, it got weird the other day at a PRN registry shift. I wore my school badge cause I’m lazy and haven’t made a generic one 🙈 fellow CNAs were friendly till they noticed it and asked how it was going. I said stressful but great, more than halfway done and I’m ready! They were like ohhh cool cool alright Ms nurse! 😁 and gave a bunch of excuses as to why they weren’t going. Wouldn’t you know it when I asked for help with a few patients they said yes but ghosted me 😂 wild! All good, I’m on that LASAGNA/wacced out murals life now🤌🏽🤌🏽🤌🏽

Also, she keeps criticizing me for studying math in advance of school - she has a few times over the last week. I plan to start studying anatomy and physiology soon as well. I do study for up to 15 hours +/- each week, unless I have some other things going on, although generally it is while she is asleep, working, or otherwise engaged. I tried explaining this is to help ensure we don't waste money as the money will go down the drain if I fail at school. It may have helped when I told her it was recommended by the college as remedial. Technically, it is remedial in order to get a higher placement to qualify for 'college level algebra' which I do not need as I only need to take 'technical algebra and trigonometry', which is a lower level course. However, I want to ensure I am prepared well for the lower level course since I need to get A's and B's in math and anatomy and physiology I and II to qualify for nursing school.
She is very closeminded. She is in a fundamentalist religion and is against college in general as the religion has continued to speak against higher education. Members of the religion have one of the lowest higher education levels overall. (I started researching the religion about 8 years ago mostly by reading books, listening to podcasts, and listening to lectures by college professors and determined it is false - she was not happy about that.) She is also against nursing as the religion prohibits blood transfusions of plasma, red blood cells, white blood cells, or platelets, even if a costs a member their life and prohibits doctors and nurses from administering the blood transfusions as well. While I am against telling lies in general, I think there are exceptions, such as when a person's life is on the line. In this instance, I told her I would not administer blood transfusions since she is totally closed to reasoning on this topic. Admitting I do them, would lead to being shunned by family that are members of the church. Therefore, I chose to go along with her delusion, like you might with someone with advanced alzheimer's.
She also does not like the idea of going into debt for it, although I pointed out that it will pay for itself within 2 years of when I start working due to the increased wages and sign on bonus. I also try to stress the ideas of thinking long-term and that we need to start planning for retirement better. (We just started 401k's 1 and 2 years ago as we never had the money in the past.) However, she thinks Armageddon will be coming soon, so planning for a future decades away with the world as it presently is is unthinkable to her. Also, planning for the future is a bit of a cognitive load, which is difficult for her and causes her anxiety. She does not like the idea of me having school on evenings and weekends and does not like the idea of me working overnight at the hospital in the future. She is also against the idea of me being a male nurse. I let her know like ~10% of nurses are male. She also says that I won't be hired because I am old. I told her that they really need nurses with a 20,000 shortage projected for our state.
I started thinking of college recently due to changes in circumstances. First, I was homeschooled but took an extra 2 years to graduate as I was not made to work hard at schoolwork. Instead, I procrastinated and wasted time playing video games. However, I have made personal improvement, partly due to my jobs as well as the extra responsibilities of being a father, over the years and have a good work ethic now. Besides working fulltime, I take care of almost all of the cooking, dishwashing, laundry, and cleaning, which also contributed to my work ethic. Thank goodness for podcasts, audiobooks, text-to-speech, and UA-cam that I can listen to while handling chores, driving, and even during some of my work. My wife works part-time but she does sleep a lot and has anxiety. In addition, I was diagnosed with sleep apnea around 11 years ago. Using a breathing machine helps me to be better rested and accomplish more than in the past.
Waking up from the religion was necessary. My son woke up from the religion last year as well without much influence from me. I planned on studying with him to point out many of the errors that were made by the religion at some point when he was old enough but he woke up on his own and we both left the religion last year. That was important to me. If I left before him, then he would likely have been lovebombed by the rest of the family and congregation to try to keep him within the fold and that could have resulted in him shunning me, or at least reducing our relationship, and would have kept him within the religion, which would have limited him from pursuing higher education and bettering himself.
Since we left the religion, that freed up time for me. Since he is getting older as a teen, he naturally is more independent. That provides time savings to me as well although I still spend time with him. Since I have been at my present job for 11 years, I have a good amount of vacation time. Also, now evening and weekend classes are available to become an RN, something that was not available 20 years ago. The final thing was seeing how my parents and parents-in-law are doing financially after living their lives in the religion without adequately preparing for the future - not well. That gave me the impetus to do online research into what options are available. I seem to always wake up about 6 hours after I fall asleep so that gives me extra time for studying.
After she said it is the dumbest idea I ever had, I asked, 'if it does work out like I think it will, will you admit you were wrong?' She said, 'that remains to be seen and we will cross that bridge if we come to it.' In conclusion, I guess I shouldn't have told my wife I am going to nursing school. LOL!

But, I’m continuing on my LPN journey. I was researching even more today. Just the LPN License alone opens up so many more opportunities to make a lot more money. Go for it. I’ve been thinking about getting loans to be able to complete school. It is totally worth it. And I’m glad you would give your wife blood products to save her life. She could be mad later. Now that I have started training as a charge nurse on the floor in LTC facility that I have worked at as CNA & CMA for 15 years. Agree. When working on a dream or goal, do it in silence. Find all the excuses in the world not to share. Limit the family members and friends (colleagues , close acquaintances etc) you share it with too. Some people don’t even realize that they are jealous: it’s like a demon inside them. Been following foe a while fam...appreciate the motivation and gems you drop..real quick...whst would you recommend to be the cheapest and best route..I'm currently going to community college..doing my basic..anatomy..micro etc...I want to get my bsn...so after I finish my prerequisites..I'm have to fund a nursing school..which in cali is tougj..they do point system. And most schools only accept 70ish students..and other are waitlisted...I'm just curious as to how maybe to navigate that..and come out financially good .I want to be an rn..but I don't want to come out 100k in debt either lol..any advice be greatly appreciated. My personal advice would be to let your hospital pay for it. I’m a PCT and My Hospital pays for my education at any college of my choice.
I would say that, scholarships, or Pell grants.

Why not get ADN first, so you can start working sooner? You can then work full time while doing RN to BSN program. In Pennsylvania, nurses start at $41 per hour plus shift differential at the local hospital in a rural area - that's $82k +/- per year plus a sign on bonus of at least $10k. Also, the hospital chips in $2-3k plus per year towards getting the BSN. You should make more in California but will pay more in housing etc. Personally, I am working full time and will go to technical college for 3.5 years for prereqs and nursing school to get an associates degree in nursing. Then I will do online classes for an extra 2 years to get a BSN while working as a RN. The college will be around $13k/year but I will get $1.5k in tax credit/year plus $2.5k/year or so from federal and state grants plus $2-3k/year from the hospital when I start working there. @@TAHJ1987Np, I do encourage you to get some form of certification behind your name. Whether it be phlebotomy, nursing assistant, medical assistant, or EKG technician. It helps with your resume and it allows you to gain a decent income while being in school.

It’s sad, but true. Over Xmas with my family (whom I don’t see together very often) not one of them bothered to even ask, how is school going or one word about my new journey. It was so sad to see even your own family isn’t rotting for you :/ which is why I always believed it’s better to keep quiet and grind.

Yep, it got weird the other day at a PRN registry shift. I wore my school badge cause I’m lazy and haven’t made a generic one 🙈 fellow CNAs were friendly till they noticed it and asked how it was going. I said stressful but great, more than halfway done and I’m ready! They were like ohhh cool cool alright Ms nurse! 😁 and gave a bunch of excuses as to why they weren’t going. Wouldn’t you know it when I asked for help with a few patients they said yes but ghosted me 😂 wild! All good, I’m on that LASAGNA/wacced out murals life now🤌🏽🤌🏽🤌🏽
