For me each piece is about my personal connection to the figure/character. Luke is my childhood hero, Vader represents how I can always redeem past mistakes, Wonder Woman represents connection to people and love, Superman represents hope. If a figure isn’t anchored into an emotion, I don’t buy it. It’s just “stuff” then.
Really nice production , solid insights and crisply presented. A great talk on collector’s drive and the over arching reasons we collect - it’s about evolving. Well done.
I started collecting when I was 7 years old and I still have all my Star Wars figs, ships etc. love my hobby. Thanx for your great videos. Keep them coming.
My firs figure was death watch Mando. I think I’m addicted though. I’ve been collecting for about 1 year, and I have 40-50 figures already. I’m on my 5th or 6th diorama though
I first started collecting with a 12 back R2D2 and C3PO in 1978 or 79, it's been a while. My first Hot Toy was Commander Cody, after him I sold everything for Star Wars Hot Toys and haven't looked back. Sound wisdom Mr. KeCo, definitely something to think about when collecting no longer holds it's sway!
Great video 👏🏽 I’ve honestly gone through this myself and what brought me back was the first pre order pictures of the new InArt joker and all the new technology involved in making better 1/6 scale figures. Another thing that really brought me back into the hobby was I created my first 1/6 scale custom figure which I went all out on as it was a figure that I know would never get made. It’s the Tim Bradstreet Punisher design also and the best thing is it’s also the character and design which got me into collecting comics and figures in the first place when I when I was only about 10 years old
Great video and perspective! I recently hit the Quality Over Quantity wall because I had to buy a new car this year on short notice, and I think I feel a lot less stress for doing so, though some of that stress is replaced by the anxiety of writing in to shops to cancel pre-orders that I'm just no longer feeling or can't afford.
I have definitely backed off on what I am choosing to invest in on what I want. Taking time to pause on purchase is a harder challenge to learn to overcome and is what I am trying to reflect on.
Great video and insight. I started collecting at 25 in 2008 with the first version of Hot Toys Dark Knight Batman and Joker. Still going strong 15 years later💪🏼
I collected Transformers as a kid but fell out of it in high school and college. I started getting back into it a couples year after graduation and have ramped up year after year. This video was compelling for me as I feel like I’m at that stage even 12-14 years in a honeymoon phase. It’s largely space as the initiating factor, but focusing my collection seems like the prudent next step.
@@KeCoCollects I started collecting Hot Toys a few years later and have a bunch now too. Most recently I bought a couple of statues, but the principal is the same for all lines I collect.
G1 Optimus Prime, I was 6 years old and got it for Christmas. I slept with it like it was a teddy bear. I go in and out of collecting mostly because of money. I'm older now and have started collecting Hot Toys. Just remember to be responsible and if you don't have the money it can wait and enjoy what you have at that time. Glad to see you put out a video it's been awhile.
This vid comes in an interesting part of my collecting journey right now where i'm kind of taking a break as it's not as exciting and being more sparing with my figures as my want for so many has dwindled a bit. Saving for specific ones even if they're a year ahead. Thanks as always for the interesting vids I appreciate the perspective. Also too yes a bit of having pre orders and some plans do make it a bit less fun so stepping back and starting again more saved and new will be fun :).
I just started collecting in 2021. Grabbed deluxe Mando and Grogu. Then from their started collecting Marvel and it’s been a rabbit hole. Really enjoy it though. Moon Knight gets delivered on Monday and I’m so stoked
First hot toys that started it all was JL Batfleck deluxe. I had to pose and take pictures every single day until I got the second and third and forth HTs. That was three years ago and now I am at the stage of comfort zone owning 60 plus figures and few statues. I am going slower but more concentrated. Very happy about what I have collected. Like you said theres ups and downs, but I don’t think I can let go of this hobby. 😂 Have a good one
Mark 50 was my first hot toy I saw photos of the figure, and it looked amazing and the character was amazing in the movie best iron man suit ever then I saw that you can get an accessorie kit to go with the figure and I was sold. I now have 17 hot toys I'm good at only getting figures that mean something but it's tuff because there could be 3 great movies in one year and then your like 😮 thats 20 pre order's hahahaha
That's how I've slowly started feeling (too many current figures being produced at once). The economy and prioritizing paying off student loans doesn't help. Keep seeing SS discounts but keep reminding myself no, pay off your preorders 1st. If you didn't preorder the figure that's currently on discount it means you didn't really want it. New goal is paying off preorders, then consider more figures.
I'm kind feeling the same way about Hot Toys. Aside from today's Sandtrooper drop everything has been very, very boring over the last few months. Also, I starting to have more fun with my WW2 figure collecting (my original drug). Certain companies have been doing great homages to various movies and most figures come with at least 2 -3 display options for under $200.
That was deep, I wasn't sure if you was talking about collecting or trying to invite people to your bed 😂 All seriousness, great video that's useful for many. I am very pro less is more. Only things you love, less space so they can breath. Add nice lighting, diorama, give them their own world and see how superior they're. Far better than 200 hots toys squashed in a detolf. For me I am reducing my colleciton, going into statues more also, and forcing more space, so I can have that man cave room effect. I.e. Just not collectibles, but the big tv/ projector, surround sound, games console, hopefully a driving game setup etc. Lastly, started collecting when I was in school (secondary) many years ago with horror figures (fan of horror and my favourite part of my collecting). First hot toys that made me love them / 1/6 (first purchase - was actually two at the same time).... Hot toys back to the future marty and dx13 terminator. Bttf is my favourite film and also love terminator. I am an 80s kid!
Perhaps you should rename the channel The Hot Toys Therapist/Philosopher or The Collectors Counsellor? Seriously though, great job! Very well delivered.
I believe that practically adults are the ones who collect toys, now due to this phenomenon adults have already satisfied the need to have our childhood toys or our favorite superhero, at this point many collectors are tired. of accumulating objects, that's why I think that the world of collecting is losing strength because we already gave ourselves the time that as a child we couldn't tell it, the new generations are not interested in toys except collecting, so for me sooner or later this hobby is going to end, and we are going to keep collections that we are not going to be able to sell, a tell all this because is happening to me , Thanks you do good videos

I’m gonna be honest. Marvel dc and star wars all feel agenda driven and garbage nowadays. It’s completely destroyed my excitement and love for collecting figures. I’m sure I’ll get attacked for saying this but it’s just how I feel. The people in charge of these franchises are pandering to a crowd on Twitter that aren’t even real fans of the properties and it’s starting to really show….
The harpies will shriek and call for their "allies" to swarm around you. They'll call you a bigot for simply stating a fact. They will exhibit zero tolerance for dissenting beliefs and opinions that do not comply with their own, which, ironically, makes them an authentic bigot. The tragedy with such dogmatic ideologies is you're always one "wrong" opinion away from being "cast out, like a leper". Chalk this off to ESG and the puppet masters. Most of the time these Western corporations do not believe what they're pushing, they are only interested in securing credit. What often happens, is HR and marketing departments get flooded with the ideolgues, the cancer spreads, the quality of the products/services plunges, customers leave in their droves and financial jeopardy ensues. For some reason, these companies only appear to think in the short-term and are incapable of seeing the larger picture, the consequences. We also get situations where the mid-level ideologues eventually realize the boardroom and shareholders are not onboard. This is very amusing to watch.
A lot of people will agree with that statement. Same for me. Marvel.... Not enjoyed it (minus the last spider man and gotg) since endgame. Don't like these new characters, my old favourites are gone and just chumps now - thor). DC is a mess and I always wanted that man of steel 2, Affleck own batman movie, WW 3, plus the snyderverse ending with darkseid etc. Star wars, do love mando, but my passion for star wars is with the movies. They kind of messed up the last trilogy. Episode 8 my worst film and derailed that trilogy from fixing that mess. Not a animation fan, so not interested in any of that (have tried many times). So yes, that's a massive bulk of releases there and none I am excited about. But my excitement is shifted towards statues, customs and classic characters. All these releasing things I love. Classic 80, 90s movies, my favourite films etc. So my excitement shifted, but if I was stuck with 1/6 hot toys only (minus the bttf, indy and Robocop figures) I'd probably have walked away and just stay with what I have. No interest in checking groups or seeing what the new announment is.
