Part 3: • Smokey Robinson on Mee...
    Part 5: • Smokey Robinson: I Met...
Part 1: • Smokey Robinson: My Da...
    --------
In this clip, Smokey Robinson talks about growing up in Detroit, during a time when many of his friends were dabbling into criminal mischief and involved in gang activity. He reveals that the police shot and killed a friends of his for attempting to break in a car. From there, he recalls a horrific fight that stemmed from a baseball game among Black kids and White kids that led to bloody brawl involving baseball bats. He said the fight was such a bad experience that it prompted him to stop fighting all together. Later in the conversation, he talks about his approach to parenting in regards to peer pressure.

Mad respect for Smokey for his words and I couldn’t agree more! Anyone who doesn’t want to be your friend because you don’t want to do something that they want you to do that you’re not comfortable with, was NEVER your friend! Point blank, PERIOD! That part! 💯

Props to Mr. Robinson, some of the best parental advice ever - there would be no space for excuses for your actions. My parents told me something similar about “…jumping off a bridge, just because ‘so and so’ did it or said to do it -would break my neck and not theirs.” The thought stayed with me and helped steer clear of peer pressure.

Such a wise man and a true living legend! I grew up with the same outlook and raised my kids with the same advice about peer pressure. My friends got into lots of trouble and they would ask me to go along. I declined most of the time but they understood and were still my friends no matter what. The few times I chose to tag along, I knew full well if something went down, I was responsible for my actions, not my friends. If any clown wouldn't be my friend if I didn't help them do dirt, I casually dismissed them. I had enough real friends, didn't need any fake ones.

I would normally agree but this is just a small clip it’s probably gonna be a 1 or 2 hour interview where he asks plenty of other things. For him to mention this info I’m guessing maybe Smokey had said it in autobiographies before so I don’t see the issue. Now if he keeps on going back to it every second then yeah it’s an issue but if it’s a small section I don’t see the issue
