Thank you for your honest review! Only one thing: I set one of these up today without plugging in a USB-cable on my wife's Win 10 machine. Ok, it took about 30 minutes or so with registering the printer at HP's and rather slow downloading the software and drivers, but finally it worked like a charm via WiFi alone.
The drum itself has some issues, it's very easy for dust to get in. In my first laserjet of this type, there was also some defect after only a few weeks (we could change it for a new one thanks to the guarantee). The new drum, after about 9000 prints, shows white stripes (probably thanks to dust, I'm going to look tomorrow if it's possible to clean, but I'm not going to force anything, because there is still a warranty). I have also an Epson Ecotank, and despite it being slower, I love it much more (and it's also cheaper). Once the warranty of this printer is over, I will never buy a new HP (laser)printer, they're just too expensive and after some time, they always show some problems. I only use the laser printer if I need large quantities of black-white copies pretty fast. Also, I wouldn't call this printer quiet. I have the same experience, the more I used it, the more I hate it.
You really underplayed the fact that laser jet printers are better than ink jets. Ink jet printers are garbage and a waste of money. There is very seldom a reason for color and if its absolutely necessary take it to a print shop and print with a thermal printer or better. Ink jets are one of the biggest scams out there. They cost very little because all they want to do is sell over priced ink that dries up if you dont use it immediately. If you print very little, get a laser and it will print for years and years. You can even put it away for a year and pull it out and it still prints! Not with a Inkjet, you take it out after a few months and, oh no, you need to spend 50-100 dollars to print something again! Don't be fooled by the ink jet scam!
I bought this printer and have messed with it over 2 weeks and still cannot get the dang thing to just copy a l page kids math workbook page really! I hate this thing, I don't want it on my phone, I don't want it on the internet I JUST WANT TO PRINT SCHOOL PAGES It's horrible and I hate it Nice to hear your honesty and you should show how to do the stuff not just talk about it hence informational tutorial

For home use I don't need colour. An ADF is also a luxury. It's a shame about the duplex, but for the price it doesn't sound too bad.
i need a printer that is RELIABLE even if i don't print anything for a few months. no inkjet qualifies in that regard, i am hoping this laserjet will.

I cannot even figure out how to make a simple copy!! I have spent hours trying to figure it out! I am ready to trash this damn thing!
