    Very much appreciate you guys showing things without “YouTubing” it and making it perfect. You’re respectful and understanding of HH and issues but also we see how frustrating it all is. I love Nikki saying it’s gonna be good so many times like she’s trying to speak it into existence and give herself positive affirmations. I love how resilient the Wynn’s are and try to laugh it off. Hope it all works out. Safe travels

    I sold my boat 11 years ago because of reaching 70 and unable to stop growing older and weaker and have lived vicariously through yours and others channels since. I’ve questioned my selling decision many times since then but watching you guys today has reassured me that it was the right thing to do. Man, I was so worn out by your experience that I’m gonna have to take a nap. When stuff like you are going through happened to me I didn’t even want to talk about it with my wife but you even add the hard work and frustration of taping and editing all of it. WOW, you are the strongest most hard working and optimistic couple on the water in my opinion. Stay strong and beautiful in your journey, and know that some far off day you’ll probably look back at these videos and wonder how you ever did it. Love from us!

      Jason and Nikki are very patient, infinite optimism. I crewed the first voyages of a brand new boat. Really well made, endless problems, little support. All the promises of 'first port we'll send a team to take care of any problems...' Nope. (Would I work with that company or those people? Sure. They're good people, it's a great boat, but it's a boat. Very complex. I think a future interaction, with all the experience I've gained, would be more 'rigorous,' but good. When I flew in I had 80 pounds of boat parts, spare pumps, dinghy lock, impellers, etc... I also brought a lot of things I thought might be useful. I should've brought more. If I did it again? Instead of flying with 150 lbs of luggage, It would be 250 lbs. Shipping it would've taken longer, cost a lot of custom duties.)
      On the port side some of the stanchions and the rub rail were leaking. This at minimum should've been immediately addressed. They should have caught it at the factory. 15 minutes with a power washer or hose would've revealed a problem. We couldn't figure out the leak because there were so many of them.
      After about 6000 nMiles of sailing the owner said because of all the rough seas we'd been through, things breaking, he thought the boat had dropped in value about $50k. Seemed reasonable. By the time I left the boat and the owners took it to a boat yard, we'd sailed 7500 miles. Just chaffing issues were huge. I've seen many day sailers on UA-cam and even my own boat, things that I know within a week at sea would chaff through. Yet these boats can sail for years without any chaffing at all. It's the difference between dropping a drill bit on a piece of wood a hundred times and sticking it in a chuck and turning on the drill.
      Later when we met up again, another 1500 nM, they told me about all the fixes and upgrades. I reminded him what he'd said and said I wouldn't hesitate paying $100k more for their boat than a brand new one.
      New boat problems. Going to make anyone nuts. So Nikki and Jason, very patient. The bottom line of the boat I sailed on is that it's build quality was top notch. It was a catamaran, so I was thinking about 'Lagoon problems.' I made notes of dozens of places on the boat that if it moved I would be able to later see if they were moving and if it returned to the original positions. I thought I spotted one in the main doors. Nope. A shirt hanging up to dry got caught in the door on the starboard side making the port side latch a bit out. So it wouldn't take much. But it was solid. It's a terrific boat, with new boat problems. If you don't know the difference between things that can be fixed, but the company....., and the basic structural integrity of structure, mast, standing rigging, engines, etc.. new boat problems could make you lose your mind and give up sailing. (But never buy a new RV in the U.S.... )
      Me? My dream used to be buying a cat like an HH, now it's buying a used cat like the HH owned be intelligent diligent owners. If the boat market really made sense a year or two old 'fixed' boat should be worth more than brand new ones.

    Hi Guys, newbie here, thanks very much for your videos! I went through a new 40' build where the boat was constructed by Pogo Structures in Brittany and I live on the other side of the planet. What could possibly go wrong? 😁 When the boat was ready I flew over for a week of commissioning. Two minor defects found (both pointed out by the yard and resolved within the week). After commissioning we dismantled the boat and shipped it round the world. 5 years of hard sailing later and we had not had a single defect or repair that could be attributed to the design or the build. Not one. The worst thing was a hydraulic oil leak after hitting a whale at speed, which I can't really say is a fault of the equipment! I just felt it important for people to know that it is possible to buy a new boat and have zero defects. Cheers! .

      Yes, I do understand and thank you for your comment. It's just this attitude that companies have these days. Sell the product although it hasn't been completely tried and tested and wait for the claims from customers. Buying anything that big and expensive, then putting hundreds if not thousands of miles between you and the builder is always going to cause issues when claims are made going forward. My point was HH own very polished marketing of their own products. I guess that every single item built into that boat have been installed in many before. The faults experienced here are like reading a comedy or errors. I personally would choose a European manufacturer, taking the higher price tag as giving me more peace of mind should things go sideways.

    •  2 місяці тому

      @@robertw.1499 yes but building a boat is like building a house or even more difficult because of the salty element. There is so much parts, area that can be damage, only a tiny error can lead to big issues. You seem to be a lot less pissy than many clients I’ve had.
    Props to you. Good job on being great owners.

    You are two very respectful costumers for HH Catamarans and you may expected this or got the boat on discount for prototype testing. On the first video I did expect you are one of the first catamarans of this type and now you said it is number three.
    The initial quality of a prototype does not say anything about the quality of a series product or the lifetime of this product (boat). It looks like very common problem with an over motivated sales time pushing the time to market too hard. Happy prototype testing!
    If you do not have a infrared heat camera consider buying one, because it might help you finding maybe dangerous heat short circuits in the solar panel.
    Broken solar panels can get on fire if parallel connected panels aren't fused against each other.

    I have to give you guys props for your patience in dealing with these issues. I would have gone absolutely nuts over the electrical issue that caused problems with the engines. The possibility of future problems on the engines would have me going off on any company, no matter how much or little money was spent. The damage caused by the yard workers is definitely unacceptable, hopefully HH steps up and does the right thing in fixing the problems. Well done to you two for keeping a professional public face in dealing with this. Look forward to seeing how things are handled going forward. Stay safe out there on the water.

    I would be a bit concerned that the stray current corrosion issue damaged more that what you can see - with so many systems and tanks and plumbing and computers and motors and sensors and wiring on the boat, there may be more latent damage that exists. It may be worth having a 3rd party survey done to document the condition in case you have failures or other issues prematurely. That’s just one of those pervasive systemic problems that can hide, like mold in a house or a flood car… not to be a negative nelly but we are along for the journey, so sharing the concern…

    REMEMBER a few key points. The HH factory had experts in each area of the process. The workers live and work in a unique factory town which is the best of the best. The factory was hospital sanitary and workers wore booties, overalls, PPG, not only for their safety around chemicals but to protect stages of products and finishes. HH chose to partner with Jason & Nicki for several reasons; an important one being priceless (word of mouth) advertising. Because they knew they would stand behind their product, they had an opportunity to test and learn from people who love documenting and would be patient. The situation now, at a place far out of HH reach, they have a few repair people that have never been trained to the high factory standards. HH probably needs the capital from 1-2 more ships to complete the new yard in Phillipines. Which I am sure Jason & Nicki will visit in a few years to be able to report what great strides they have achieved. [I am not an HH employee] That all said- that large gouge-hole in the salon? white wall, the scratches on the black carbon counter. (I would cry). fiberglass mess, dirt on fabric chair, should not happen at any repair shop for any reason. That is laziness, total disregard for another's property, and negligence. And the TV scratches might be particles flying around from another job entirely? Who knows. Those workers probably don't have the same personal backgrounds and are unfortunately the only ones that could be found. Very sad. A comment from LRSTFJ mentioned management. And that is what Nicki said- HH has sent people to start the process. I wish you fast results from good managers to help guide the workers into pride and positive results. Happy waves!!! Feel better!!!

    Some comments. 1. Good that HH changed the header tank etc due to stray current. Keep an eye on the engine bearings, which are usually copper lined. Not normally an issue, but you appeared to have a significant stray current problem. 2. We purchased a 2 drawer Vitrifrigo fridge/freezer 4 years ago (tomorrow is the actual purchase date). It was highly recommended by a very competent marine refrigeration engineer. As a former marine engineer with a fridge endorsement, I was very impressed with the build quality. It continually broke down during the warranty period (and repaired by the same engineer that recommended it). 3 years in the unit totally failed and being away from our home country, we were obliged to use a third party agent that claimed to be an authorised agent (but wasn't). They rebuilt the unit - new controllers throughout, new ventilation fans throughout, change of type of gas (gas that was in use was banned in the country we were in) and several leaks repaired. Vitrifrigo never replied to the dozens of emails I sent them, and the original seller merely referred us back to Vitrifrigo. Great unit and very happy to have it on board, but frustrating that what was an expensive piece of kit failed so often.

    Wow guys! I'm almost in tears here after watching your video. I've known you guys long enough now to be able to read the frustration that you're going through. I have no reason to be plus or minus about HH or any of the companies. But as an outsider looking in, I think you should be totally reimbursed for the expenses that you've incurred in hotels and all the rest of that because of the warranty work. Maybe they should actually be paying you for testing lol. I'm a sailor. I have nowhere near the experience that you guys do. But I'm actually very happy to see that the main sail problem is being resolved. From a couple of your other videos, I was like oh my! I was trying to figure out how that would work if you were in heavy weather and you had to drop the main sail with the difficulties that I could see. And you had extra crew on board; what if it was just the two of you. I still love you guys and appreciate you. I'm amazed at your patience and fortitude. As others have said, I'm also impressed with your straightforward reports about the truth of the situation. Please continue to be very careful as you shake out any remaining bugs. Just watched your latest video and boy does my heart go out to you guys . Glad HH is standing behind the product and fixing the issues. Word to the wise - be very careful about over propping the engines. If not in alignment with engineered specs , it causes excess load and premature burn out on otherwise healthy diesels that should last thousands of hours. Even if it means the manufacturer needs to reevaluate “marketed” boat speeds vs actual at rated loads, you don’t want to over prop because at 1000 hours your diesel is going to go caputsky - which will cost $$$$. And it will likely happen after the warranty expires. Don’t take it from me, get a good diesel mechanic + the engine manufacturer + HH to verify and commit to extending warranty , before you make changes.
    Thanks for all the videos and great work you do. Wishing you the best of luck and happy sailing!
    - Andrew

    As a steady viewer of several years, I find myself angry watching this one. The Wynns are great people, optimistic and thoughtful and kind. I don't like seeing them being mistreated, intentionally or not. I would suggest that HH's reputation is on the line considering this channel has 630K subscribers and this video has already had 187K views in only 13 hours. I would be very upset to have unnecessary damage done to finishes by careless and untrained employees. HH miscalculated, I'd say, in letting these most influential customers set out on a long journey to a factory they acknowledged was not ready for prime time. If I were the owner of HH, I'd be on the next plane to Cebu. The Wynns are being more than patient and diplomatic. I get that, as the boat needs to be made right. You two are wonderful. You are so patient and gracious with regard to the issues you have experienced to date. No doubt you are on what we in the engineering field refer to as the bleeding edge of technology. You have a lot of new things going on with your mechanical propulsion. I was quite shocked to see you running at 3600 rpm and not breaking 8 knots easily. After reflecting on it, I believe that your diesel engines may just be too underpowered for the size of your vessel. Our Lagoon 42 has two 57 hp Yanmars and we seldom run both when we are motor sailing and we keep 6 plus knots at 2200 RPM. I hope they get everything sorted out and that you don't have to compromise too much on boat speed when running on engines. Cheers!

    What a great video! You both have provided a great service to yourselves, HH and this community. HH is so lucky to have a "partner" in the process of bringing a new vessel design into production. This community has been able to see your struggles, frustrations and your great "can-do" attitude; it's a great example for all of us to learn from. And you two should be so proud of yourselves. I'll never want to stop taking this journey with you, even if I'll never set foot on your boat. Your story-telling is superb. Hope you both are feeling better.

    Jason and Nicki are being extremely polite as they would never get the warranty work done. I would expect a better service from HH for the cost of the boat. Absolutely would not go anywhere near HH now after seeing how they didnt have a grown up managing the amount of warranty work required.

      It's hard with new things, even here in the states. I'm a heavy equipment mechanic in AZ. Even teaching my apprentice how to do things of good quality is an uphill battle. I blame country music 😂😂😂...... but when a whole new facility. Everyone is new. New boat new problems. Some of the issues like the sink drainage, I foresaw that and I haven't even been on a boat. Engineers don't know much, every mechanic would say that. But mechanics are smart because engineers mess up. Even in heaven, I like to think things brake because I wouldn't know what to do with myself. It's a part of the process. Even from HH or Kenworth or CAT or Ford.

      @alexanderleske3429 correct, but it's not what break's, it's how the company resolve it that matters, particularly when releasing a new boat.

    I followed you regularly when you were RVing. I'm glad you have enjoyed your time on the water. I've done both and enjoy both. We almost bought a South African cat, but wife became disabled so backed off. Your enthusiasm and life style is to be respected. You've come from being novices to very experienced mariners. I'll check on you regularly! May you have fair weather and following seas!

    Nikki Jason hi from Alberta, Canada. Always the class couple of the cruising world. You went into this order eyes wide open knowing it was hull number one and what comes with that. Calmly as possible managing your own interests while ensuring HH completes delivery as deficiency free as possible. No bitching, whining etc all business huge kudos to both of you. 🤞the end is in sight.

    Cudos for the positive attitude. Those are not petty issues you're dealing with. My husband builds boats with carbon and says HH should have epoxyed all carbon holes with bolts in them or used titanium bolts . Please be extra careful with your 1:1 , the load can double. Wishing you all the best . We love your channel.

    Been watching your videos for years now…love em! Aircraft mechanic here… boating and aviation are very similar in how the industry produces low quantity of each types of boats/planes. The 1st 10% of a new model produced always has major teaching issue and they never live up the advertised claims in performance…after 10% produced, things then to be acceptable. The stray current is a prime example of teathing. So, all your issues are to be expected, but the downside is more will likely appear. As long you don’t have any structural integrity issues, things will be fine, albeit annoying to get fixed.

    • @jackdbur
      @jackdbur 2 місяці тому

      The carbon fibre current issue is that the manufacturer is used to working with fibreglass in carbon fibre construction every hole you drill needs to be oversized and filled then redrilled. This probably needs to be done with everyone of their deck fittings .😊

    About boat damage during repairs, maintenance, and upgrades - Now that you have a nice shiny new boat with nice finishes, this is a constant battle. Doing work ourselves we have some rolls of plastic diamond plate, a couple of small throw rugs, a couple of drop cloths and a couple of moving blankets. When the tools come out, so does that stuff. We never put a tool or a part or a component down on a finish, only on the protection. We tape it in place as needed to protect vertical surfaces, especially moving heavy stuff in and out. When we hire contractors or go to a yard, we explicitly have the "protection conversation". We explain what we want, and we communicate we're willing to pay for it, including always protecting the main route on/off and in/out of the boat. If they can't or won't do it, we do it. Prevention isn't free, but it's way cheaper than fixing cosmetic damage.

    Love you guys been following you for years but I think you know this boat is lemon. You can see it in your faces, that you’re hoping for the best but knowing the worst is yet to come! 2 months at sea and the rust on this boat was overwhelming, you have more going wrong than right.

    • @gwdriver2158
      @gwdriver2158 2 місяці тому +8

      That rust is totally unacceptable on a brand new boat. Every rusted fitting should be replaced not polished off. Better yet, HH buy the boat back and pay them a big settlement for all of their time lost and inconvenience.

    • @andrewbrown2063
      @andrewbrown2063 2 місяці тому +1

      I guess the fittings are 304 Stainless instead of 316, to cut corners and costs.
      If you restore a solid old boat yourself you can make it high standard and have to rely on others decisions and values.
