Very few people can explain what people in Public Relations really do. As a final year PR student I constantly have to explain that we don't just stand and talk. Whether it’s the traditional media, social media or speaking engagements, we communicate with our audiences through trusted, not paid, sources. PR can also be used to protect, enhance or build reputations through the media, social media, or self-produced communications.
You have an amazing way of breaking down information, compiling all the important parts and leaving out the fluff to make for a quality and straight-to-the-point informative video. So glad I came across your content! Keep up the good work!!
kchoi I also have a question for you and don’t know where to ask it so I hope this is an appropriate medium lol! What would be some recent book recommendations you might have? I’m into nonfiction (self help, autobiographies, etc) and fiction both :)
I’m a communications major and I’m trying to make sure this IS the right choice for me. I’m seriously considering Public Relations/Communications Director as a long term goal. Thank you so much for making this video!!! I think you’re going to inspire a lot of people looking to learn more about this specific area by shedding light on the truth based on actual experience and not just reading vague articles about it!
I’m a struggling high school student trying to figure out my career interests and public relations has always intrigued me- thank you for clearing stuff up for me :,-)

@@whoistlovesburbrryshouldst186 Haha yeah COMM majors usually get a lot of flack for the major being "easy" but I think it's a really well-rounded major. I love that my only math is media analytics! There are always communications jobs available, so to people that make fun of it, we'll see who's laughing when we can literally get a job in any industry if we work hard. The work that PR agencies do doesn’t necessarily involve the same types of transactions that advertising does. PR agencies still charge clients for their work, but it’s a different type of exposure than advertising so it involves different things.
kchoi o ok thankyou for replying, so they help u with a strategy first do the work and then charge u on the amount of work they put in for u correct? And are they more expensive than advertising and marketing?
As a PR student, this video is really helpful for us to continue the PR journey! PR really needs to cope with many different jobs including advertising, media, writing, and others. Having media contacts and having newsworthy is the most important to be a PR person. Thanks for your explanation!
I am a Public Relations student and this video has let me know more about what I may face if I wish to work as a PR in future. This is amazing and thanks for sharing your experience working in Public Relations. This has inspired me to improve my writing skills if I really want to get into PR field.

I’m a 2nd year PR student and I LOVED this video! It was so much fun to hear what other people in my field have done and how there is room for everyone with tons of different interests
As someone who majored in political science and is about to drop out of law school I just wanted to say how helpful this video has been for me in my career considerations. You really boil down what PR is and how working in the industry has been without trying to sugarcoat it or promote yourself. Thank you so much.
this was an amazing explanation! i’m changing my major to communications and i’m trying to decide if i wanna concentrate in PR or journalism and media studies and this really did help thank you so much!!!
hi! what did u end up deciding? i’m going to study communications and not sure if i should concentrate in digital marketing, pr, advertising management , or media production
So much information packed in one video and you have somehow made it so easy to digest them, place in simple laymen terms and at the same time entertaining and relaxing to watch. I am a final year undergraduate in Bachelor of Communication (Hons) Public Relations and all these years, it has been a challenge for me to explain to them what exactly my degree is all about. Not only did this video allowed me to better understand what PR is, but you also made PR sound like a lot of fun! Thank you!
I am so excited to be studying PR communications degree! Meeting new people is my jam and I definably want to learn how to be more clear with my words and writing. Thanks for making this video. :)
As an undergraduate of Bachelor of Mass Communication (HONS) Public Relations, it's a really helpful video to simplify what is PR to the public. Many who don't understand what is PR always have misconceptions on us, causing us difficult to explain to them. Thanks for the efforts!
1:42 - In 2022, PR now isn’t 100% earned. We do paid content too, BUT the point where “the media comes earned from a relationship with the media” still stands. When we work with a brand’s marketing team, the brand has budget for paid PR media so, we as PR will still liaise with the media, form a relationship with them, to get a paid article. paid or free, BOTH can be achieved through media relations :) nowadays PR also works with publications’ branded content department so that’s where sponsored articles come out :) its different from a full-fledged advertisement, because those paid articles still involve the PR sending over their press release, negotiating and etc .
My family still doesn’t understand what I actually do! Sometimes no matter how i explained to them, they just couldn't get it. I'm stunned on how you break down what PR is. Now i could convince my family that I've chosen a great course to study!
Well sharing of how PR actually does in the industry nowadays. It’s exactly the knowledge that I’ve learned in university but without hands-on in this particular field. Great experiences you have! I’m a person who is passionate in planning events or project management instead of writing releases or anything requires writing skills. The hardest part for Public Relations is just as what you have mentioned in things that you dislike which is the building rapport with different media people out there. Thanks for sharing kchoi! I’m now having more ideas and knowing whether to work in a PR agency or event company instead which both of them is a total different department!
Joanne Yeap hi would you be willing to help with my final paper by answering these questions with one or two words? Please :) Thank you either way. Sample Interview Questions 1. What do you like best about your job? Least? 2. If you could have done something differently in college, what would it have been? 3. Did you have a mentor in college? Do you have one now? 4. What college class did you think was a waste of time that you realize now was valuable? 5. What college activity taught you skills that are valuable to you now? 6. Did you ever do any volunteering in college? What did you get out of it? 7. What should college students do to prepare for a job interview? 8. How do you balance time between your career and your family? 9. If you could change something about your job, what would it be? 10. How do you deal with the stressful parts of your job? 11. What do you know now, that you wish you would have known when you graduated from college?
Thank you for sharing your thoughts on how PR actually does in the industry these days. Everything is so well explained about the insights of PR. I agree with you, as it’s exactly the same that I have learned in university. Many people will think that in PR industry speaking is more frequent than writing. In fact, writing is much more important that we should have in the field of Public Relations, as PR Practitioners maintain a good relationship with the external stakeholder and sharing right information for the public. Good content can easily catch the attention of the media and readers to stay longer and often visit for the organization. What a good experiences and knowledge you have!
I had to pause in the middle of the video because I could relate to you being an English major. I went to law school, taught, and took up a masters degree but I quit all three because I got tired of doing all those. I'm a new viewer but I think I've found my next favorite UA-camr here. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for your great effort of listing down these points and generous sharing your own experiences ! I'm a PR student having my last trimester and this has firmed my mind to step into the PR industry in the near future ! So glad that I got to watch your video by accident, but turned out giving me such awesome piece of mind
I'm an english literature major and now I'm working with a small pr agency, my role in the agency is almost the same u did in the fashion pr. I want to get to know about this field so bad. Thank you so much for making this video.✨💖
Hi! As i sense you’ve graduated by now, can you please update us on your job status as a pr specialist? I’ve also majored in english literature and am in great need to gather information about pr
I love how you said you're an english major but you didn't want to teach, be a journalist, or study more literature. I am an englihs major and that's literally me. I love to write creatively but I know I will need a 9-5 job so to speak and this is fitting for me. Thank you so much.
3 years later, this is so incredibly helpful! Such a great breakdown of how PR might differ from company to company, the types of scenarios/work you could encounter. You often hear that you can't really explain the day-to-day in the PR world unless you dive into it, and this felt like a dive in. Thank you so much!
This is a lot of great info and you explained everything super well! I'm currently in product management and it's always nice to hear in depth about other careers. I'm also thinking of doing grad school in the next couple years so watching your experience on here has given me another perspective. Thank youuuu ❤️
I just recently graduated 2019 in Communications , and started a PR internship in November. So far I only been doing media lists, clippings, calendar listings. I have yet to learn how to write a press release. I am exploring my options to see which field is best suited. Just want to thank you for making this video! my major was Advertising management so this helped me out a lot! P.S. My dream is to work in the Fashion Markets or Travel Industry (Global); through PR maybe, I think its amazing that you have experience in the Fashion market and Gaming Market :D
Im currently still trying to decide which to major in, whether I should go into PR or Journalism. Watching your video made PR sound less scary than I imagined so thank you for this.
@@Rebecca-jb5hb HAHA, I ended going for Journalism to brush up my storytelling skills but I am in a media agency right now. So I'm getting the taste of both I suppose. Which one are you leaning towards?
Thank you for sharing your experiences! Now I have a clearer picture on what PR is actually doing in their daily task. I also agree that PR involves a lot of writing, as a PR student, I am always practicing to improve my language to avoid grammar problem when I work as a PR practitioner in the future.
You are so thorough in explaining all of these such as job duties, etc. I really enjoyed your video. I am currently enrolled online for communications at SNHU and this is very informative and will help me in determining which way to go with my degree and what I should concentrate on and choose for internship which I hear is extremely important to participate in. Thanks so much! 😀
2nd year college PR student and I fully agree. I just declared last semester, but I am a big people person and I love to write, glad I am choosing this field!
Im good at all those PR things, the only thing im not good at is writing. It’s no problem writing a quick message like this. But when it comes to long articals im not so good. I have dyslexia aswell, but it won’t stop me to persuade my dream! But i would like to know. How much time do you use to write? Will this affect me. I would love to work with PR and do everything else except the writing.
I was totally dazed by the internet and was really scared but man i love how uve put things like a piece of cake. Uve done a big favor for me ❤. Thanks dude
I'm doing a paper and a presentation about PR in video games and you just saved my life. Great video tho, you hit on everything I needed to know. Thank you for this insightful video.
hi I'm a second year communication student from Bali and currently learning PR management. my lecture just used your video as a source for us to identify and explain PR's jobdesc! thank you for making this video and sharing your experiences with all of us! it's totally helpful xx
thank you so much, the way you talk is smooth and calming, you're the second person majored in English literature that I think have a really clear mind and unique way of saying things
I am also graduating in languages sphere, but it is not in my interests. I didn’t know what I will do in the future, but rn I am pretty sure that I will connect my life with pr management. Finding someone who had literally the same problem kinda warms my heart and gives me more understanding that it is possible to actually work in the sphere that u like. Thank u for that, u made ma day
This is very informative, thanks for breaking down all the info as well as your experience in PR. I will definitely keep in mind the things you had said.
I'm a student major in PR. Trying to look for a simple explanation of PR for people who are not in this field. I found out your video is quite clear and straight forward for people to understand. It's because a lot of people mistook PR and Advertising or marketing is in the same field.
Awesome video! You've broken everything down so well and it's really helpful to get a better sense of what PR is (always thought it was similar to marketing). Would love to watch more videos on consulting (another area that seems to be interesting) or even just chatting about the transition from school to the professional world! :)
A lot of people who watched your videos were kind of looking down on you because of your age (and thus perceived lack of experience), but I'd like to affirm you that you don't have to work in one job and work long in it to learn a lot of things and to appreciate the nitty gritty, even the entire picture. I especially appreciated you at the time in this video when you became a 1-person PR dept *and* looked back on your internship experience on how to go about your present tasks.u And I got hooked further when you pursued a masters degree -- even though you felt it wasn't necessary.u All the best!
Im a 4th yr college student taking an Advertising and Public Relation course. I admit that until now my knowledge in PR is not enough and im scared what will happen to me once u graduated and need to work. This so helpful, i learned a lot. Thank you ❤
I come to this video when I was looking up for information about public relations. Thanks for sharing your insights! This helps a lot to my understanding :D
I watched this video around the time it was first posted and it helped me to make one of the best decisions of my life.. Thank you so much for this. Love the industry of PR.
Hi! I am so incredibly glad you posted this video. I have an interview for PR soon and since I'm in the same boat as you were (with being a grad and no PR experience), I was able to get some info I didn't know about. I truly appreciate it!
I'm pursuing a degree in PR. I really like writing, working on strategies, analysis and stuff, but as I'm more of an introvert and I'm not really into meeting people and developing relationships with them, I'm afraid that I won't be able to find my place in this sector.. and yeah, I'm kinda scared..
It'll turn out fine, I had same thoughts before entering in PR, you'll learn to communicate professionally. It won't make you an extrovert but there will be a difference when you communicate to some one on a personal and professional level, you'll see a huge improvement in the latter.
This video was beyond helpful due to the fact that I’m just now finding myself truly interested in working with public relations! I’ve never been one with UA-cam but you have me determined to start my new career path ❤️
This was so helpful to me. I'm currently so frustrated about what I want to study! I start undergrad in a few months and I initially wanted to go to law school so my current major is English but I think PR is for me!
You have an amazing way of breaking down information, compiling all the important parts and leaving out the fluff to make for a quality and straight-to-the-point informative video. So happy I came across your content! Keep it up!!!
Such great info - I would have loved to see this back when I was interning / figuring out what I wanted to do with my life! I've been working as a freelance journalist for a few years now but I would love to make the move to PR at some point in my career. It really is two sides of the same coin at the end of the day. Would love to hear more about consulting as a job too!

Very helpful, I’m currently completing a BA in PR and I love writing and strategic thinking and I already know I’d rather want to use the PR principles and skills via business consulting. Thank you so much for sharing.
Thank you for your video. Im so inspired, for i was graduated from english education major. But i found out that Im not into teaching. I have passion in Communication and International relation. I think im going to consider to pursue my dream and take one of those major for my master degree. Bytheway i love how you explain your job it sounds so compelling and fun. ❤❤❤
Thanks for watching! And although PR ended up not being for me I’m glad my video encouraged you! It was my goal to keep it very balanced so thanks for your comment :)
Kristina - Very well done. One of the best overviews of pr that I have ever seen. One that is informative but with a real world spin... Good job. I sense your rare combination of being both analytical and organized. Keep up the good work!
This is such an informative video, that I really wanna show the people around me, who always ask me whats my major. Thank you so much for this wonderful video.
I really like the way you explain everything as you didn't complicate the information. This is really helpful for me as I know what to expect after my graduation. Thanks!
Omg I’m so happy I found you because I’m also an English literature student who is graduating in about a month in the uk! And totally could relate to your dilemma when you talked about what to do after graduation 😂 I never really considered PR seriously because I’ve always thought I was going to go down the hard journalism path but after interning at a start up media company last summer, I really loved the PR side of it even though I was their editorial intern! So I had many opportunities to write for them and had my work published in their magazine but I also attended photo shoots, sent out press releases like you did, went to events, interacted with local and international celebrities etc so I thought why not? And I stumbled across your video which was super helpful so thanks a lot for clearing up what pr is and what it can entail!
THANK YOU❗️everything is so well explained! It’s the first time that I learn about a new job in one single video and feel like I have a good understanding of it! You make want to switch my career into PR
Hi Kristina! I would like to ask for an advice if you don’t mind - I’m considering a career change and PR seems like a good choice for me. I have a degree in Spanish and master’s in Anthropology. So, if I rewrite my resume correctly, I think I could fit the profile. Before I start doing that, could you recommend a book/online class in order to get me started with the core concepts and mindset?
PR is a great and interesting course to study. I just graduated from uni with my second class upper division in PR. I'm so proud of myself. Great video honey.
Well explained. She literally took me back to what PR is. I have a degree in PR but also looking into Consultancy. I love PR but the part im not so keen on anymore is the SM managemnt side of it.
Congratulations with a new job! Consulting is a great career despite long hours and travels:) P.S. I miss your vlogs:) Any chance you can vlog your "day in the life of a working girl" or any vlogs from your business trips?
I'm currently pursuing PR course as my degree. After watching this video, I have an idea what to expect after graduating. This video is very informative and clear explanation about PR. Thank you for this! 😍
i spent couple months freelancing in a pr firm and i had such a bad experience...took me a while to realize it was not the job but the people instead. hope to someday get back into the field hopefully for a more refreshing experience
Dang. Hope you are back in it and doing phenomenal! Don’t let people or a bad experience stop you from doing what you do best. That experience only made you stronger. 💪🏽
Before I pursuing my degree in public relation, my first thought toward public relations was all about doing paper work inside an office, you might need to face annoying customers or managing complicated management issues. However, now, I doesn't regret to study public relations because I found out that I gained fruitful experiences and knowledge not only related to public relations, also advertising, mass communication, event management and more. While watching your video, the major point that you mentioned inside your video, I can totally relate with my experiences while studying public relations. Still, thanks for making this video for letting me know more and more details about public relations. I can't wait to share this video with my friends and my family, as to let them know what exactly pr works.
I'm a Public Relations students. Love your video. Your video help me to understand how it works in a real firm in the real world. I like how you break down the information and highlighting all the important parts to let us understand better. Eventhough i'm currently persuading my studies in PR, i'm not sure if i want to work in PR firms in the future. Your video left me a better understanding on which path to choose in the future
This is really useful for the one who not understand about PR or try to get in to PR field👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 There are a lot of important and also detail about what is actually PR.
Hi Medusa, I know you posted a while ago and I am not the UA-camr on this channel. But a few courses you might want to check out include Public relations management, crisis communications, event planning, intro to public relations, and public relations writing. It is important to note that a lot of your knowledge will stem from hands on experience such as internships or mentorships. While the classes are a great base, you really want to expand your horizons with actual involvement in the industry. I am happy to help you in anyway I can!
I have an associates theatre degree and am now going to back to college for my bachelors in communications, I am thinking of concentrating in PR or New Media since I like pop culture, entertainment etc. Does having a theatre degree help in PR?
All those pieces of information were pretty strategic, and how did you breakdown and explain the depth of the career is amazing. It's a very informative video. nice work .
I'm pursuing PR and almost graduating, this is super informative and very concise. Future PR should take a look at this video to have a clearer big picture of Public Relations. Great video with useful tips, Thank you and keep it up!
I got an internship for this PR Agency based in NYC/LA and I’m super nervous! My major is global business and this is going to be my first internship. I literally am taking notes while watching because this is helping ease my anxiety. Thank you so much!
How do you find working in this field as a young person? Do you find people can be pushy/assertive with you because you are young and new to the job? I guess my point is, when you are working with people who are double your age and have years of experience they will try and play you in the hope you will just go along with it. (I guess this pertains more to external clients, but there are some who will be like this on your side too. Even the manager can be funny sometimes.
Hmm I didn’t really run into issues like that. The only thing is the desire/feeling you need to prove yourself further because of being on the younger side. But i'm not that young anymore hahaha
Thanks for sharing about the knowledge of PR it is a fruitful one! I like the part where you explain the difference between advertising and public relations! Advertising is a paid media where your ads will be placed in media when you pay but PR is an earned media where you can get a placement in media if you communicate well with the medias. It is better if you have a good relationship with them. Besides, I do agree with you that working as a PR is not only about doing events, it also includes writing press releases and feature writing. Good sharing!
I was just thinking about this as I am thinking between pr & marketing. What do you think is the big different between these two? Thank you so much for this video!
I feel like marketing is more of an umbrella term and PR and advertising are parts of it! They’re all so related that it’s hard to really differentiate but I feel like Marketing has more budget than PR because the activities/executions in marketing are generally bigger. I’ve never worked in a “marketing” role specifically but hope this helps a little bit!
Very few people can explain what people in Public Relations really do. As a final year PR student I constantly have to explain that we don't just stand and talk. Whether it’s the traditional media, social media or speaking engagements, we communicate with our audiences through trusted, not paid, sources.

Thanks for the efforts!
this video clarified SO many of my questions and i’m a pr major. thank you for not sugar coating and just giving the truth!
Now i could convince my family that I've chosen a great course to study!
yes, they thought me take a salesman course😪
As a student minoring in PR, I really get a better understanding about PR afetr watching this video. Thank you for sharing!
Please :)
Thank you either way.

What a clear and conscise speech on public relations and consultancy, delivered in a lecture mode from an English teacher.
So why major in english lit vs communications ? And what Other majors are there to get into pr
Thanks!! Glad that this helps in some way. I love to hear about other careers/fields too :)
Very informative and you explained it nicely 👍💐
Soooo pretty. Youre glowing in this video omg!

@@bykchoi hey you have something on your neck. Just kidding. It was very well informed video!!!!
Hey I’m stuck in between doing journalism and PR too which one did u pick :)
@@Rebecca-jb5hb HAHA, I ended going for Journalism to brush up my storytelling skills but I am in a media agency right now. So I'm getting the taste of both I suppose. Which one are you leaning towards?
@@Asura913 i was in journalism but switched to PR. journalism is a little outdated.
Awesome! :)

Is pr good industry?? Can we work as an single consultant?? Is this good career as financial terms??
hi I'm a second year communication student from Bali and currently learning PR management. my lecture just used your video as a source for us to identify and explain PR's jobdesc! thank you for making this video and sharing your experiences with all of us! it's totally helpful xx
ahh how cool!!
thank you so much, the way you talk is smooth and calming, you're the second person majored in English literature that I think have a really clear mind and unique way of saying things
Great idea! Thanks for watching :))
Thank you so much. You have helped me realize something I was destined to do. I pray all goes well for you in your new career. Thanks once again.
This was so helpful. I'm preparing for a PR interview tomorrow! Thank you!
Im a 4th yr college student taking an Advertising and Public Relation course. I admit that until now my knowledge in PR is not enough and im scared what will happen to me once u graduated and need to work. This so helpful, i learned a lot. Thank you ❤

I watched this video around the time it was first posted and it helped me to make one of the best decisions of my life.. Thank you so much for this. Love the industry of PR.
I am a professional PR, I have my own (small) agency, but sooooo many people don’t understand the meaning of it. Your video explains it very Well !!
Hey maria where do you come from?
@mariapatriciagraf1574 is what you doing is good in financial terms?? Because people making videos about their reach career in pr
.

Hi Medusa, I know you posted a while ago and I am not the UA-camr on this channel. But a few courses you might want to check out include Public relations management, crisis communications, event planning, intro to public relations, and public relations writing. I got an internship for this PR Agency based in NYC/LA and I’m super nervous! My major is global business and this is going to be my first internship. I literally am taking notes while watching because this is helping ease my anxiety. Thank you so much!
I know you wrote this a year ago but how did your internship go? What did you do and what did you think overall?
