Had some issues with the mic on this one. Y'all may have to work the thumbs a little bit today to adjust the volume. I'm confident you have the required skill set to make it work. Thanks for watching!
Easiest way to get the wear ring in for the backyard mechanic is to stack the old one on top of the new one and then flip the cushion ring upside down and stack it on top of that. Alot easier then looking for a socket.
@@CaptainKleeman I'm sure he does, DP certainly doesn't hold back on wearing hi- vis Captain Kleeman tee shirts ! Between your channel, DP's and C&C's - man you guys' sure impact on my working week lol!!!
You know the relative ease at which you rebuilt that cylinder is going to guarantee when another cylinder fails you will be on the short list to rebuild it! Nice video! I would have appreciated a little peak in DP’s garage LOL!
Great work captain. wish the rebuild on my backhoe went that easy. Piston bolt was red loctited on, ended up denting my piston ( luckily it was on the end and not where the pressure ring sits) trying to heat and beat it off.
Mike next time you have a metal Sleeve to put in and you know about it. Put new metal sleeve in a Freezer while your taking the seals out. And once you have old sleeve out and your ready for new one get it out of freezer and it should just Drop right in. And all youll have too do is put snap ring back on. That way you dont have to worry about damaging new sleeve. Should work good for things like that. Just a suggestion Sir. You got it in anyhow I was just giving You another way is all. Great Job Sir. Great Video...
Jobs like these having a picker truck would make things so much easier. Another option to take it into the shop is get a big heavy flat piece of steel and put the rod in the press and press down on the eyelet holding it down to the table on the press. When i got my bucket cylinder rebuilt on my 230 hitachi, the rod end got mushroomed slightly from the previous owner slamming the bucket open to try get material to come out of the bucket. So had to take it into a machine shop to get the end of the nut and the threads taken off.
@ 17:17, that ring is called a "guide ring" by paperwork I've seen. Some such 'paperwork' call it a wear ring as well. "Guide rings, also known as wear rings and bearings, are used to guide the piston and rod in a hydraulic cylinder. These rings absorb radial forces that act perpendicularly to the cylinder. Also, these bearings prevent contact between sliding metal parts, thereby optimizing seal performance."
@@CaptainKleeman I've got to do both lift cylinders on my Bobcat skid steer. So i looked on amazon and found a three tool kit for bending and installing the inner seal. I think it was only 19.95 .

You should always take a cylinder apart with the rod all the way in you lose less oil. Also if you can, generally the fittings on the side. If it has a hose that goes to it, take the hose off, hook up a heater hose to it. So whenever you're pulling out or compressing the cylinder that oil is going to come out through the heater hose and you get direct it wherever you want it to go.

What you are saying is not necessarily true. The interference fit is dependent on each of the two joining parts deforming ever so slightly so that the assembly can be completed. I always lubricate these pieces because, depending on the specified tolerances, the mating parts can seize together before the assembly is complete. Then you may damage either one of the two mating parts by applying excessive force, and that can cause all kinds of nightmares. There is one exception and that is bearing races. For these you can use a compound called, "bearing retaining compound". This lubricates during assembly but then hardens afterwards to hold bearings securely in place. Bosses for bearings can become larger after many hours of use and the original press fit tolerances may not be available.
