Pretty cool! How about this project idea: - a movement detector that works only at night, - on/off possibility to produce custom sound (dog barking) when triggered, - on/off possibility to produce a flash when triggered, - takes a picture and sends it over email when triggered. We assume local wifi server; needs to wark on a battery system; and of course low budget :) Reason for this project is to have a basic surveillance system that can also be upgraded shoo the wildlife away from around the house at night!
Hello mrdiy. I am currently building your fine garage controller. Thanks a lot for your great program. I modified it in a way to accept homeassistant stop and is switchable between 1 and 2 sensors to get a proven open and a moving or partly stopped signal. As you have published the code with no licence i am not able to share it with the community. So would you be able to change that or can i send you the modified code so that if you like you can add the changes to your project. TiA Joe
Hey MrDIY - follow up question. I'm building a node-red actionable mobile notification. Do you know what service is called to open or close the garage door? Would it be mqtt node with a value of "CLOSE"?
Great project! I've been using it for a few months with Home Assistant flawlessly and it's also helped me with using it as a base for other projects. Question: I see there's a firmware update local site - Is there anything you can point me to understand that process and how to get the firmware to the device when it's not connected to the computer with the IDE. Thanks!!
Very possible - you will need to play with Tasmota rules to trigger the right MQTT topic on Open and Close. This could also help as a fail safe in case the reed stops working or simply falls off.
@@MrDIYca never mind; false alarm. I was having issues with the device communicating with HA. After further troubleshooting ended up being a firewall issue. Thanks for this project btw. Plan to put on esphome at some point?
**edit - ended up trusting your schematic (D2 on the relay). All working now, tomorrow i put it on the garage door! ok - do have a question and forgive me as it seems a bit novice. In your schematic you show soldering the magnetic switch to G and D2 however in the video it appears you're soldering G and D3 on the relay. Is the D3 pin on the relay correct to be wiring the magnetic switch to?
I ended up going with this project box given it's a bit smaller (snug fit) inside: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07TTJQGLY Used double sided tape to affix to side of garage door motor.
What is your advice If I want to control 2 doors and add a camera. can I do it with the mini or do I need more gpio? Obviously 2 relays and mag switches...
Thank you for this topic, what is the beneficial of read switch?
To read the status of the garage door

Thanks for your feedback! This helps me understand what types of projects people are interested in. I will definitely keep this in mind!
@@MrDIYca My pleasure! Hope to see more from you soon and keep up the good work :)
Great movie! Your production (video) is excellent! Subscribed :) Recently I did something similar :)
Thanks. Awesome, I'll check it out!

Thank you for the reminder, I added the LICENSE.
Hey, can you send me the modified code pls?
Hello, my relay is always active and it doesnt seem to recieve a signal of Open/Stop/close Im using an Node MCU ESP 12E

Hi, they are actually in the code:
line 61: #define MQTT_DOOR_ACTION_TOPIC "garage-cover/door/action"
line 178: "OPEN" & "CLOSE"
Hope that helped.
@@MrDIYca I thought that may be it. thanks for confirming. I made a couple node red flows if you're interested in them.

Glad it helped! what 'firmware update local site' are you referring to?
@@MrDIYca Sorry I think I may have added that piece from another project. Please disregard! :)
Just wondering if its possible to have 2 reed switches to show open and closed so if it ever gets stuck in the middle.

Hi MrDIY - what's the best way of working with you on this project? Have a few questions.
What's up?
@@MrDIYca never mind; false alarm. I was having issues with the device communicating with HA. After further troubleshooting ended up being a firewall issue. Thanks for this project btw. Plan to put on esphome at some point?
I haven't used espnow yet. I guess that gives away my answer :)

please tell me you cleaned up all the wiring in the garage. my soul hurts looking at it lol
Oh boy, you should see the basement ;)
Cant read visual annoying audio with levels far far too loud👎

Obviously 2 relays and mag switches...
if you need a camera too, check this esp32 board geni.us/BUbdB8J
