What you are saying about the fluctuations in tire pressure due to outside air temperature is true. But the “cold” designation on the door sticker is referring to tire pressure prior to driving, before running the tires. They will get warm at highway speeds, hard driving etc. These PSI numbers are to accommodate maximum load capacity (GVWR). If you are not at the maximum weight rating for the car, you can run lower pressure. Usually the tire manufacturers have those charts that coincide with your actual weight you are running at. Better ride quality versus running at max PSI all the time. Cheers.

Great video! Funny thing is, I set my new 20s at 38 all around too, we’ll 40 fronts and 38 rear and after summer and winter months, it went to 31-32psi all around 😮😮 even the dash didn’t light up “tire low” for some reason and I usually check it every couple months.
*ALSO, be careful when you get your cars/truck serviced by dealership for oil changes or tire rotation! My last last set of 20s, they inflated to 75-80 max psi and it rode super rough and hard! Thought it was the tires because the life was below 50% so got new tires and became more “educated” in this tire psi and I’m keeping track monthly myself lol (and doing my own tire rotation, and nobody touched my lug nuts but me lol😂 dealers/tire shops always scuff/damage the lug nuts too) 👍👍👍
Thanks a lot! My tires did the exact same thing when winter hit! Dropped about 12psi. They are super sensitive to weather changes. My truck didn’t alert me either and I think it only will if below 30psi.

It’s the fact that your tires say “mutant” 😂. No Recent car shows. Omg I just learned that the other day. I was wondering why my pressure kept fluctuating. I’ve never experienced that until this year. Or maybe hubby handled it. 😂 My car is usually at 39-41 but it was going as low as 28. Great info as always.

Ferris here.......when I worked at the tire shop we would get a lot of air pressure checks when a cold front came through.......I run 60 in the rear 50 in the front of my daily driver that I have because of everything that I have in the bed.......good info....a lot of people don't even pay attention to air pressure in tires ........new video on 6" lift on the f150 is out on the channel.......be safe out there....🙂

Back in the 90s most car tires ran 30-35 psi. Now, it's 44 to 51 psi on the tire. Yet , the sticker in the door on a 2006 car says 30 front...35 back. If the tire max is 51 I run them 44. If tire max is 80 psi I run 50 Psi. I get max mileage out of all my tires with no abnormal wear.
That’s Interesting information. I wonder why the change in recommended psi. I’m sure tires have evolved and are constructed differently but that’s a big difference
This comment is 🎯. We only run door sticker psi with factory tires and rims. When we modify rims and tires we run all of them close to the cold max psi on the tire to improve gas mileage and life.
Max tire pressure is only if you’re towing or hauling stuff never use that for daily driving must be a dump truck driving 😂😂😂😂
good video, and excellent information to share... also just a good note to let people know about, MOST tires will say on them what the recommened, and max tire pressure is for that make and model tire. it is usually listed on the sidewall of the tire right around where the tire size is listed

Yes a lot of larger tires and off-road tires do not have it on the side wall unfortunately... but most tires do... also a suggestion, maybe u already have it but if u don't there is a kit u can buy for the rear seat release on ur truck. There is a decent amount of room behind that seat to store things like tools, air compressors, and jump packs.... if u don't already have it I recommend buying and installing it. Costs about $10 or $20 and installs in about 5 minutes
@@christopherpfleegor4447 thanks bro! Yes I do have a seat release latch, but with the kids car seats strapped in, I still can’t access behind the seat right now. I may get a storage unit for under the seat and use that space.
Excellent informative video. I once heard that tires will gain or lose 1 psi for every 10 degrees Fahrenheit change in ambient temperature. Also that it is not uncommon for tires to lose 1 psi per month from micro leakage. I check my tire pressure at least once a month in the morning before the car has been driven and the tires are “cold” with a digital tire pressure gauge.
Tires losing 1 psi per month makes a lot of sense! If that’s true, then my tires were almost exactly where they should be with the leakage.
I would like to test the 1 psi per 10 degree temp change. It’s supposed to get colder here this weekend so I will look into that! Thanks for the comment!!

That was a great video, everything someone would need to know about keeping good pressure in their tires. One of the best purchases I ever made, was an air compressor for my garage. Saves you from having to do the gas station run and pay 2.50 every time. Another suggestion, take a gallon ziplock bag and fill it with a small crescent wrench, a magnetic screwdriver with the little bits in the handle, a pair of pliers, a tire pressure gauge, a tire inflater, a few assorted zip ties, some tape, and even some spare bulbs and fuses if your vehicle still has bulbs. Throw it in the glove box or under the seat. I’ve got one in my truck, both my kids and their spouses vehicles. You may never need it, but it will be as handy as pockets on your underwear if you do need it.

Yes, a small tool kit is one of the best investments u can make to keep in a vehicle. Personally I went and bought a mechanic tool kit that I keep behind the rear seat in my truck, and also went to harbor freight and bought a small air compressor that I also keep in the back seat. Can't tell u how many times I have used both items not just for myself but for others as well... another suggestion would be a small jump box. I have one that my in laws got me for Christmas some years ago it's in a case about the size of a medium sized book.. again can't tell u how many times I have used it for jumping vehicles, and mine also can be used to charge phones, it has all kinds of hook ups
I use it as a reference. If I’m traveling.

Does 80 psi cold mean I can inflate my tires to 80 psi with no problems?
Thats typically what it means, however make sure it does say cold “max” meaning the maximum psi cold. When it warms, tires expand and the psi goes up just from pressure which would mean they’re over inflated. Also, 80psi is super high!! My tires are at 35psi now. What type and size tires are you running?

So the tire pressure on the door jam is only a factory suggested pressure. It is NOT necessary the proper inflated pressure for you vehicle. My Jeep came factory with 35” tires. The door jam sticker states they should be at 37psi for 315/70R-17 (35” tire) that is absolutely not the proper road pressure for these tires.
I see what you mean, it’s based more on application. I’m guessing they have to provide a “safe” psi legally, but to your point, there are a lot of other factors involved.
@@MeAndCarKeys it’s more about mpg. 37psi in a tire that should only be 28psi is also not safer as only the the center of the tread touches the road. You also get poor handling and sacrifice tire life with too much pressure. It’s hard to understand why they do this but I’m sure the bean counters have their reasons.

That seems high! Is that the suggested PSI or the max?? The Max on my tires is 65
@@MeAndCarKeys using the calculator that was the reccomended.. My max on the tire is 65 also. But i think it also has alot to do with the factory 20s that came on the truck. 275/55R20 and 37 psi on the door placard.

But when worked in a commercial tire shop years ago, my boss had what he called a master pressure gauge and every six months he would make us test our gauges versus the master one. If we were more than three pounds out of speck, we had to get a new one. They weren’t cheap ones either.
