  • This video is on the removal and reinstallation off an 8 year old roof mounted solar PV system. Shingle roofs should be brand new when solar panels are installed. This roof should have been replaced before the panels were installed. The solar company should not have installed the solar on this roof. The previous solar company had poor wire management, did not install enough flashings for the array, and had poor workmanship overall. High volume solar seems to = low quality. Be carefull out there folks....

      Yeah, seen it before but laughing at your comment. 100% correct
      How strong would the aluminum ladder shear strength need to be for that practice to be safe?!!😢

    John, everyone likes new/fresh projects with the latest and greatest, but I also like how you show re-work and older installs, gives me a better idea as to how these systems age and "best practices". Keep 'em coming.

    Just curious, But after shutting the power off near the inverter, do the workers have any risk of electric shock generated by the panels if the accidentally touch a live wire?

    • @GainSolarPower
      @GainSolarPower  5 років тому

      Stephan Crisci no, the panels only make 30-40volts 7 amps.

    Not to be a troll but one who has gone up roofs for years to wash windows, they should have use Ladder standoffs available at Home Depot so as not to bend the gutters. What part of GA Senior? Donde Esta?

      Jeff Garner well I think they are gonna replace the gutter but I agree. Protect the gutter and the solarman payeth not!!

      What do you charge for an evaluation in west Pickens County. (15 miles west of Jasper) I emailed but I guess you have been busy. Want simple pump, solar hot water and enough Solar to run a small AC unit for bedroom or 2 and a refrigerator. Electricity is not that reliable in Ranger, GA

    For an older'ish roof, what are your thoughts on replacing it with metal? I only have one layer of shingles but would want it all stripped to the decking that then done in metal before solar.

    • @GainSolarPower
      @GainSolarPower  6 років тому

      Greg Vence sir. Sorry I haven’t come out yet. Got super busy. Standing seam metal roof under the panels is the best. You can clamp to the seams and have a roof that will last as long as the panels. Screw down metal roofs require maintenance.

    How common is it for squirrels to make nest under panels? I am near ATL and looking for solar.

    • @GainSolarPower
      @GainSolarPower  3 роки тому +1

      Obviously we have no control over the rodents, but I believe having trees in close proximity to your house is one of the biggest causes. You should not have any trees close enough to your house so that a squirrel can jump off the tree onto the house. Also if you could wire management is practiced, the chances of a squirrel eating a dangling wires is low since there are no dangling wires. Wires should be dangling anyway. Rooftop solar is not the best spot for the panels

    My question was if after you turn your solar power off if you still have power in the panels

    • @GainSolarPower
      @GainSolarPower  3 роки тому +1

      If you turn it off it’s off. No power is flowing

    The damage did you see to the shingles around the solar panels my friend are due to when the solar panels were installed people were walking on the roof obviously and destroyed the shingles so you’re not looking at hail damage you looking at damage from somebody walking on the roof and twisting their foot my friend has nothing to do with hail hail damage won’t make a circle 3 inches around that is a foot

      This will only happen when the roof is already damaged or on a 100 degree plus day. I’ve done 500 roofs and know when to get off when your damaging it

    Guys are hard at work but I'm see safety issues all over no harness or safety equipment. And with a roof in that condition one of those guys could fall rite thru.

      Sean J Solar nah the roof is good I inspected thru attic. Yeah the Mexicans think they can fly. It’s not my job, but they did put the harness/ppe on shortly after the filming.
