Quakemaker - 2.5 oz. OUTRAGIOUS 12ga Slug - Tested!

- Today Breanna and Jamie step up to test the heaviest 12ga. slugs in the world, the Seismic QuakeMaker slugs. These are heavier than the Tsar Bomba slugs we tested last year. The company's philosophy is "heavier hits harder" and after testing these, we can agree.

They might copy your targets but the can never copy your down to earth, family-friendly vibes.. I used to be a heavy anti gun rights activist this channel has shown me a new perspective! Love you guys keep up the great content! Nice shooting
thank you!
Nice well said :)
A wholesome activity for smart and safe folks, this man does it justice in a platform, so heavily biased.
Copy that!!
Welcome. You should come shooting, it is really fun and with police not being so dependable and timely these days it may be necessary to defend yourself.
Props to breana and Jaime for sacrificing their shoulders. You should’ve saved two slugs for officer greg. No need to leave him out of the fun.
I agree with this statement OG needs to show us what it would do for home defense by the way were are these things available. and thank you ladies, you both were great sports about this
Plugging the rough numbers into a recoil calculator, assuming an 8-lb shotgun, I got 77 ft-lbs recoil energy. Which is about the same as a typical .22 LR's muzzle energy.
For comparison, your typical .308 or .30-06 has just 17-20 ft-lbs recoil energy in an 8-lb gun. A 350-grain bear-slayer load for .45-70+P or .450 Marlin at 2000 fps recoils half as hard as this slug in a 7-lb rifle, with just 37.5 ft-lbs., as does a .338 Lapua Mag firing a 225-gr bullet at 3000 fps in a 9.5-lb rifle. A 500-grain .458 Winchester Mag load at 2100 fps "only" generates about 62 ft-lbs in a 9-lb rifle.
I was worried about the people there when they shot their first target. That impact sound. To me, that's dangerous ricochet noise. I didn't hear the follow-up zip noise that usually follows such danger so I had a "phew". The slug made the boom-loving kid in me smile.
@@Bacteriophagebs Thanks for the breakdown. I like to compare to .308, as a reference.
@@jmsbwr Yeah, .308 levels of recoil are the most that most people will tolerate for more than a couple shots. I had a 7mm Rem Mag, which generates about the same recoil (lighter, faster bullets) and it stopped being fun after about 20 rounds.
On the other hand, I got a Knoxx Spec-Ops Stock on my shotgun and can shoot slugs all day without feeling it. I recommend it (or a Compstock if you don't want the pistol grip) for pretty much anyone shooting anything heavier than target loads.
I'm remembering a line dear Danny said: "recoil I have asked for, and recoil I have received."
Miss you, Danny!
Bree and Jamie, you two are serious troopers for shooting lots of those monsters. 🤯
What happened to Danny?
@@20alphabet he was sick and he finally lost his battle. He was a legend. I credit him with the 30lb "bitcoin" target, the cast iron pan shaped lead target. It is one of my favorites. Using the comparison of divots and penetration really tells us a lot about the energy in these slugs
@@erict3728
He lost his battle? Doesn't the cancer die also when the person does? So really... it's a draw.
@@20alphabet Well, kinda, cancerous cells will live for way longer if you give em the energy.
I do miss Danny, but seeing Greg, Brea, and Jamie in recent vids provide a positive energy to the vids. Keep 'em coming!

Very sad to know that. The best one gone.
I think you could use this slug to hunt frieght trains, small cargo ships and the occasional dump truck hunt.
Bulleye and Jamie are the funniest and accurate shooting pair. Great video guys!

Back in '03 I took down a space shuttle with one.
Ronald, I have seen that hippo and yea, he is a jerk. LoL
I don't know, it's still about a hundredth the weight a pirate would use to take down a cruise ship.
Oh, I already hunt dump trucks ;)
When Jeff said he couldn't find anyone else, I just imagined him asking OG first.

At 74 grams, that slug is about 50% heavier than a .50 BMG bullet! At what point does one stop calling something a slug and start calling it an artillery projectile?
Holy shit.. 😮
4 bore is artillery! 1,750 grain slug at 1,340 fps!
I believe the technical definition is if it's a self contained fuse activated explosive filled round it's a "cannon shell ". But i'd need to double check, it's been a while since i read up on how it's defined.
Would artillery use the definition of cannon with a 1" shell?
Shhhh, don't give the ATF any ideas to classify shotties as explosives
It's great to see the TfM crew back out and in good spirits! You folks are awesome.
Edit: I think this would be a good varmint load, good for squirrels and other small woodland critters - that happen to be hiding behind sandbag/concrete fortifications.
Jamie’s laugh is so infectious, loved having her back!
The sparkle at 10:08 caught me off guard, magnificent timing 😂
At first I thought it was an effect, but nope. Just a lucky angle with the light.
@@mckenziekeith7434 yeah it's wild how fake it looks! I thought the same when it first shimmered, before I noticed the lil gems on her nails!
Must have had a CZ embedded in the nail, it was too refractive for black nail polish.
It seems like we've found a good home defense round if you're worried about terminators.
I would not envy anyone on the receiving end of this thing, even with a plate you'd be lucky not to have all your ribs broken when the round turns it into a cookie cutter. Or it could pop high and go through the sensitive bits at the top of your chest.
It could just burst your heart. Armour penetration is completely irrelevant
Ouch 🤕 I’ve recently cracked a rib, still recovering and it’s no fun at all
Impact force is the same as launch force.
@@ionstorm66 granted the force applied to a gun gets absorbed over a much longer time period than the receiving end.
@@ionstorm66 true, but the shotgun is designed to mitigate that recoil and the round is being launched over a few milliseconds. The impact is instantaneous, and the only thing slowing it down when it hits the plate is some cloth and the poor schmuck's ribs.
Those remind me of the rounds they use to knock out rings in kilns. 8 gauge industrial gun, 4oz rounds. Would be really interesting to see one of those shoot the lead plate.
One time I was at my local hunting store and a customer had a Winchester industrial 8 gauge slug and had no idea what it was I enlightened him and he gave it to me for my cartridge collection
Never heard of one, sounds interesting though.
I've seen the video of steel workers cleaning a kiln with that 8 gauge. That would be great for this channel.
They used to use those to blast the slag and clinkers out of the boilers at a coal fired powerhouse I used to work in here and there. Nowadays they hire an industrial explosive outfit to blast them with explosive cord, BORING!
Holy cow I got quite emotional when I finally got to see Jeff when he appeared on camera. It's the first time I have ever seen him and he wasn't what I was expecting. We love ya Jeff
I wonder how the concrete bag would have fared if it had been cured solid. I think the Foster would have punched through through or at least shattered the top. The Seismic would been cataclysmic. The powdered concrete with its enormous number of small scale granular interactions with the slug is a much tougher beast to get through much like shooting through water. Also, I think a bag of concrete is indisputably what we'd call "Soviet ballistic gel."
It really knocked the socks off that soviet bloc rock ballistics block
that or "soviet wood target"
My .44 busts them apart when they are cured
Half cured bag would be an interesting.
Soviet ballistics gell is bag of turnips.
I'd use them as a door stop. I'd never let them anywhere near my "mass accelerators". Nice to see Breanna return, and with sibling. Both impressive shots, and really good sports for putting up with that ludicrous slug. [I note that soft old OG is "missing" ;-) ]
Bless you both for the beating you took ladies! Those are some heavy slugs your sending down range! Great shooting ladies! And Jamie ❤ I primarily a lefty myself! Great content and thank all of you for sharing 🙏❤!
This is easily one of my top 5 favorite channels on UA-cam. You have so much content I just spend hours every week catching up on old videos. The great slow motion footage + the cool variety of projectiles + the fun attitude of everyone involved makes these videos addicting to watch. I'm always excited to see a new upload!

This was an amazing and pretty crazy slug.
Breanna's reaction after shooting the steel plate is pure gold, and then Jeff giggling 😆
Thank you very much for the video, it was reallly fun to watch

I had to rewind @ :55 because I swore she said "Hello everyone, balls out Brianna here, welcome back" I nearly spit soda through my nose laughing at that one. 😅
Realistically, I would like to have something like this for close range bear defense. I've lived in northern Wisconsin and these look like they would stop a bear in the house.
and it's grandparents!
You’re right these would be great. However a regular 3” or even a 2 3/4” slug would handle any black bear at in the house distances. Heck, many folks use regular slugs as brown bear and grizzly defense so a black bear should be no issue.
You want hardcast lead slugs like underwood ammo or i think buffalo bore sells them. Soft lead deforms and u want full penetration 😮😮😮😮
Brutal. The cement bag was such an awesome target.
Hats off to the young ladles for their marksmanship and courage.
Great video. Love all the laughter! Well done! Very brave ladies!
Good stuff tao team. Always enjoy the slow mo. The learning. And the conversations. Keep it up

Yikes. That is like a mortar shell, or a small deck gun shell from a ww2 destroyer... Holy crap. Those Law Enforcement ones are no joke either, I have some of those. They're awesome slugs.
That’s funny but true.
People got offended that you called the target dummy Brandon? But now you have offended the GI Joe lobby.
When will the madness end? LOL
Love the channel guys. Keep up the good work.
maybe like the CPR dummy you could put a wig on and call it "RESCUE ANNIE" ...oh wait that would offend the fem-x lobby
Who’s Brandon?
Just call him Phil I don't mind 😉
I've noticed that those who are offended by things like calling the bullet catcher 'Brandon'. Are not at all concerned that we might be offended by some of their actions.
Dude, I usually vote Democrat and I thought it was pretty funny naming the dummy Brandon. We should definitely cheer him on!
After many hours watching and rewatching TFM in no particular order, this was the 1st time ever seen Jeff 😮 like an eclipse just happened or something 🤣 this is one hell of a way to spend the day great content as always . 👏 I'm in the sunny United Kingdom 🇬🇧 and my ammo comes in at a whopping 0.02 oz for my paper puncher lol .
Always nice to see you guys in my feed. Hope you had a great holiday!
thank you!
It’s a short range anti material loading. It would be interesting to see what those Seismic Slugs could do to an engine block!
Yeah, let's look for a siezed LS block to thump!
Well its only lead so maybe not much damage.
I'd consider that their main usage, that and as a stopping rifle whilst hunting dangerous game.
The engine block material would matter. It would brutalize an aluminum GM block.
Otherwise . . . energy transfer _to_ the block's engine mounts would matter more.
Mechanicing at a used car lot that bought most of their vehicles at insurance auctions, we got a Ford Expedition that had one mount broken clean and the other three warped and cracked by a shotgun slug hitting through the fender. Rubber-lined cast steel motor mounts. The engine was basically trashed from running unbalanced, pulled one from a Taurus SHO as a replacement.
I think the lead would just mash up on impact. I do wonder what a 2.5 oz (or less if it won’t all fit) slug of hardened steel would do.
Nice shooting ladies! These slugs are only good for killing animals you don't intend on eating. Would be nice to see what they do to bulletproof glass! Great video as always Jeff!
Bi-pedal varmints are, still, just varmints.
“Bulletproof” glass is really good at stopping big relatively slow moving objects like this. It would be fun to watch, it obviously depends on how thick the glass is but I’d definitely put my money on the glass stopping it.
Actually i would strongly disagree with that. Those slugs would be only usable as for dangerous game. Bear, boar etc. otherwise all that energy is going to be totally wasted. Also bulletproof glass will stop those easily because slow speed.
I love these videos, damn good shooting gals. Danny would be proud! Thank you for all the wonderful content and loads of laughs! Love you guys!
I made a full diameter semi wadcutter mold for my fully rifled "Bambi Blaster" they weighed about 800 grains I had to cut them in half to weigh them on my scale. They would stay on a saucer at 100 yds. but we found that recoil became an issue before trajectory flattened out. I did get a couple of deer with them and penetration was complete for good blood trail. Of course they didn't move after impact...
Honestly, if i was a big game hunter i would probably use that beast on buffalo lol. And yes Breanna is a trooper because there are many guys who would have backed down after the first one.
Even the problem bull elephants 🐘 and super angry Cape Buffalo 🐃 are like: “No....no, please, do not shoot that at me. I’ll go back over there 👉, roll in the mud a bit, get my feelings in order rejoin the herd and do what the Misses’ tells me to. However, you see that hippopotamus 🦛 over there, the one with the torn ear and broken lower tusk? He’s an @$$#0|€, shoot him!”
I suspect I would have enough after a couple.
the heavier round getting kicked up by the muzzle makes sense, the bigger the bullet, the more time passes between the powder igniting and the bullet leaving the barrel, which means more muzzle climb until then.
this is why magnum rounds tend to shoot lower than special rounds out of the same revolver, less time in the barrel means it doesn't get kicked up as much.
The camera field of view was perfect on examining the lead plate @Taufledermous I watched it at x25 speed and savored every frame good job!
thank you!
Breanna is a lovely person to have on the channel. That slug is obscene, and great vid Jeff! #RIPDanny

I'm an OG fan but it's great to see the ladies back. Really good shots. Might be a good round for close elk or moose. Might work on griz, Kodiak but I don't think I'd wanna be shotgun range to those bears.
The only thing I can think of is taking down a Buffalo. When I was a teen my neighbor want to raise beefalo. So he bought 7 Buffalo, 4 cows 1 bull and a calf. He put them in his herd of beef and the proceeded to walk through the fences and out on main highways. Within 48hrs all but the calf were dead. I walked up on them in the woods. They scared me to death. I wasn't used to seeing Buffalo in Maryland. They were the biggest thing I had seen. All I had was a shotgun with slugs. I remember thinking that it wasn't gonna do nothing but make it mad. Those big slugs might have done more but they would have hurt though. Great Video!!

Great video(s)... Concerning recoil. It has been my experience that recoil does not effect shot placement. Recoil is not felt or applied until the round exits the muzzle. The only way recoil effects Target impact is the "anticipated recoil".
And yes, there are several recoil management techniques available.

WOW! Very impressive shooting by the sister's. I would definitely use these as anti-material and anti-personnel, as well as large game hunting rounds.
It would be great for home defense. Just in case you need to defend yourself from a home.
This one might have been fun with Xyla. Could have made it an acceleration physics question "How much further from the target will Xyla come to rest?"
I'm betting that slug would make a mess of an engine block.
This video was fun to watch. Thank you.
My shoulder hurts just watching this....Great work everyone.
Just watching that first one rip apart the target… woah!
I think I would use these for breaking the welds and stress testing steel targets. Maybe traumatizing trauma plates and testing anti spall coating.

Good show.. Good to see Breanna again.
Youch, thank you Breanna and Jamie for the shoulders. Would be interesting if some of your viewers who do round production could make some copies out of a strong steel. Be lighter but i bet they'd really go through things.
I've heard that a head-on shot, between the eyes 👀 of a Big Boar, can result in the round simply bouncing off its skull💀...
I suspect that would NOT be the case with this particular slug! 🤯
there wouldn't even be any crackling left!

2.5oz 12 Gauge slug? lol 😂 my shoulder hurts just _thinking_ about putting one of those down range.
You could see on the video, the recoil from that slug was jerking the barrel up off the sandbag a good few inches. Instead of using a sandbag with that powerful a round, you'd need to use a different setup to secure the shotgun in place.
use of a sling like on rifles would POSSIBLY ,when wrapped around arm , hold it down better
