The prototype, the Shirinsky-Shikhmatov bullet is one of the oldest Russian bullets for bear hunting with a 12-caliber smoothbore weapon (1880s). There is a deep expansion recess in the head part, closed from above with a capsule for expansiveness. The bullet was most likely designed for the traditional Russian bear hunting in its winter den. The shooting was conducted from a distance of 5-15 yards, and the bear had to be stopped immediately. Because the bear, waking up in winter, does not go to bed, but goes to nearby villages and eats people, dogs, everything that he can find. And it can kill the hunters themselves. It is very easy to kill a bear with a 223-caliber rifled rifle at 30 yards in the head, the skull splits. But it's not easy to get into a bear that runs, and bears run very fast for short distances. And such a 12-caliber bullet stops a bear when it hits almost any part of its body.

Dear Jeff: Thank you so much for responding to my/our earlier criticisms through the years. Your production quality has gone through the roof, especially with the small stuff we like to gripe about... like making sure to include American units (ounces) and not just grams, grains and other nancy numbers :) It means a lot. Your videos are a treat!
@agvulpine: The GRAIN is the standard AMERICAN unit of measure for bullet weight, powder charge, and anything related to ammunition and reloading. Metricrap is a series of bastard "measurements " (sic) to be avoided. If you see it in a designation, treat it as its NAME rather than an actual measurement. I got vaccinated against Metricrap years ago and almost got killed in the process. Perhaps I should explain how I got vaccinated against Metricrap. Right around the turn of the 20th century, Germany changed its Metricrap. 8 Metricrap changed from .315 inch to .323 inch. the guy at the next firing point had a rifle chambered for 8 Mauser. His bore diameter was .315 inch. He handloaded his cartridges with bullets of .323 inch labeled 8 Metricrap. They miked out at .323 inch. He chambered the first cartridge. the bolt was stiff on closing, sign of an interference fit between the cartridge neck and the neck of the chamber. When he pressed the trigger, the base of the cartridge case blew out. The stock bulged out at the magazine well. the floorplate blew out. The shooter got a faceful of brass fragments and burning powder granules. His safety glasses saved his eyesight. The extractor blew out just as I was coming up from picking up some of my brass and I got a glancing blow to the top of my head. They found the extractor buried in the wall at the end of the firing line. Because of personal injuries involved, both local police and the sheriff's office investigated along with the range staff. Both had personnel on site when this happened. I still have a dent on top of my skull where I got hit by the extractor, That's how I got vaccinated against Metricrap.
4:50 Holy hell! Look at the energy left in that slug after passing through Kevlar and the dummy. It hit that dirt hard! These may not be what you want for home defense. They may go through a wall or ten after passing through the bad guy😬 Edit: I guess the trick is to load them subsonic. That is a hell of a round.
Folks will have to start asking their neighbors to make sure their refrigerators and freezers are strategically lined up to tactical lanes of fire with the next door neighbor using these slugs. Just in case. 😂🤣😂🤣
Very nice slug. The pork shoulder test is very impressive and so is the ballistic gel. I'd say it's perfect for small pest control (fire and the pest is gone). Great shooting - shotgum and camera, as always!
This is the slug of Prince A. A. Shirinsky-Shikhmatov, invented by him earlier in 1912 for hunting a bear with a shotgun. In Russia, this is a very well-known slug, everyone calls it abbreviated - "She-Sha".
Don't fear the smooth bore Comrades! I've seen Hickok drill that plate with a smooth bore lead screamer, so your testing is right on. Loved this video.

Seeing what the Twister slug did to the pork shoulder was quite impressive. If you were to hit an intruder in the Torso it would be unsurvivable. Likewise being hit in an extremity but either traumatically amputated or requiring amputation. I really need to get some of these. Guys another great video.
Nothing is overkill when it comes to protecting yourself from people who want to hurt you. And don't let the government convince you otherwise, because they don't want to be scared of the people they want to control
It is sad when the day has come when a person defending his home and family ends up in jail and the perpetrator/s are hailed as saints and martyrs. You know who you have to thank for that....
@@scottplagmann3411 That is how it has been in England for some time! It takes something pretty terrible for the courts to line up behind the victim. In regards 'too powerful' rounds--the only factor that should be considered is how it relates to over-penetration. You guys tend to have wooden houses. If you unload on some scum bag and you round goes straight through him, through the wall and ends up hitting your neighbour then it genuinely was demonstrating overkill. Hopefully this fragmenting design might take care of that problem. Also, obviously you have to pick your targets and angles, but that may not be possible in the heat of the moment when your home has been broken into. However, I agree--so long as your cartridge only vaporizes the criminal then overkill doesn't come in to it. That guy decided to break into your home and threaten your family. Unlucky day for him.

amazing! it worked as i expected and i was very impressed by that slug. water jug explosion was one of my favourites hits of all time...
That was an impressive round. Any idea how it would perform without the wading attached? Buffalo outdoors is definitely one of the nicest people on UA-cam. He has a really good channel also.
I'm not an expert or anything, but I don't think that slug would get proper propulsion without the wad. It looked like it had a hole directly down the center, which would lead to a majority of the gas escaping, in my opinion.
I think it needs to be tested without the attached wads through rifling. Simpler is usually better.
@@taofledermaus 😁👍
@@fuckgoogle4712 I'd love to try these in a brown bess musket. Also, I agree with your name.
@@fuckgoogle4712 they aren’t asking how it would work without the wad. They are asking how it would work if you didn’t ATTACH it to the wad. Currently it’s screwed to the wad.
No problem. For foreign slugs, etc. I'm much more likely to use metric units.
@agvulpine:
The GRAIN is the standard AMERICAN unit of measure for bullet weight, powder charge, and anything related to ammunition and reloading.
They may go through a wall or ten after passing through the bad guy😬
Edit: I guess the trick is to load them subsonic. That is a hell of a round.
Defend your home and murder your neighbors at the same time.
@@Habeebea 😂 The trick is to get the intruder and the neighbor you you want " evicted" in a straight line!
Great shooting - shotgum and camera, as always!
thanks you again Saar!
@@taofledermaus I'm an addicted fan :)
Trauma surgeons all over will wake up tonight in cold sweats..
I’m guessing they don’t see these.
Probably the non emergency surgeon that fills out your final paperwork does
I really enjoy all your videos. Danny is a great shooter and definitely has some great knowledge as do you sir. Thank you for sharing these videos and the knowledge with them. Be safe and keep shooting. Best wishes from Arizona. 👍😎
thanks!
Hell yes love this channel!
thanks Steve
Why people need to break in?
And why they have firearms...?
@Harry Orchard harry, how many kills by guns do we have in germany every year, inclusive suicide and accident?
That's because of the restrictions of gun ownership.
Less idiots have guns.
And in case of entering my house unwelcomed, with a knife or something stupid...,
death comes with cold steel.
And if u believe a gun could save u than I am sure u believe in winning in the lottery...
I fear more the attack of a bear in the carpathians than to the possibility of getting shot in germany...
Fact.
And btw, my liberal neighbors?
U live in a box, sorry.
@@nidhoggvomwalde2280 I've BEEN to Germany. I'm from Canada. When I got to the Frankfurt airport yknow what I saw? Police, armed with submachine guns, patrolling in groups of up to 8 officers. You'd think you Krauts would be a bit nervous at the sound of Jack boots marching through hallways and magazines rattling on tactical gear, what with the whole "Gestapo" unt "S.S" and such... and yet CRIME still happens in Germany. Criminals still have guns. So Cops have guns, Criminals have guns, yknow who Doesn't? The poor bastards caught in between. Those are called Citizens. The People. So, can you really criticize the States? A country the size of the EU, with an insanely inefficient or malevolent police system, criminals who are treated leniently by the Liberal influence, and just regular-ass people who just want to be left to their business. The people should be ready and able to defend themselves and their families, be it against Criminals, or (what a German should understand more than Anyone I'd think) a Government that oversteps it's bounds. Imagine if the citizens of Germany, the Jews and the Üntermensch, hadn't been stripped of any ability to defend themselves before the flags all turned red? Was Germany ALWAYS a fascist, totalitarian, inhumane murder machine of a nation? Hell no, it's a great place with rich history and wonderful people. Which shows that it is Entirely Possible for a Government to go Bad. And there is only One nation on Earth that is honestly and truly Ready for if that happens. And you and I? We don't live in it. It's the USA.
Definitely an awesome slug. Good to know it works at many velocities and without stabilization
You sure can brighten up a Monday!

HUZZAH, BEAUTIFUL ACCURACY AND CONTROL.
I wholly endorse your plugs for Buffalo Outdoors. Are you gonna collab with Scott of Kentucky Ballistics during his recovery? Matt Carricker's offering today was a hoot! This one was up to your usual standards. Thanks, Jeff, Danny and (if any) crew.
Is your glass half full or half empty? Was Scott very, very lucky or very, very unlucky? Either way I'm glad he is still here, that was a close one.
@@COIcultist I still think Scott got one of those spiked rounds left over from the Vietnam War.

That is one twisted round!

Thanks for watching!
I'd say you're either running out of powder before the end of the barrel or the rifling is causing a better seal than the smooth bore, making it a more efficient burn
Yeah, very possible.
@@taofledermaus - any chance you guys have the older Mossberg 500 12ga smoothbore 20” barrel with the rifle sights attached to compare with?

Tell "DEADEYE" Danny he did a great job.
One bad slug and one dead eye shot, great video thanks guys
That's one hell of a tenderizer.
YES! Danny always brightens my day!😀👍
When that slug isn't loaded in a hull would it be called a naked twister?
Only if it hasn't been powder coated yet. With powder coat on, fresh out of the oven, it's a twister in hot underwear. Or maybe bodypaint, which would mean it's still technically naked although it doesn't necessarily appear that way... 🤔Hmmm...
Thank the lord for Danny. Those pervy jokes from OG make it pretty unnerving to let children watch. Plus Danny shoots better no matter what you give him. A melted Lego with rubbing alcohol propellant and Dan would still hit dead center.
Yes thank you. So many people on FB making alignment tools. I just use a new hull with the brass cut off
You don't even need them with this wad. The slugs are designed to fit them perfectly.
Lego blocks are square enough for most purposes. Make an L shaped stack and push whatever you're aligning against the inside corner. If you use multiple layers of thin pieces, any variation on individual pieces gets averaged out.
Not even my idea, saw a Russian guy doing it that way!
@@taofledermaus I always test fit the Russian slugs and wad riding slugs through a new hull minus the brass to make sure they will load and chamber well.. Just made sense to use it to align them too. Thanks for the great videos as always.

Dang, that pork shoulder shot was rough.
Wow, pretty impressive performance for subsonic.
Thanks for another great vid. 👏🏻
Thank you very much!
So many different slugs from Russia. I am starting to think they don't use the same slug twice, they must develop a new one for the next week's hunt.
They are severely limited on what kind of guns they can own so instead have different ammunition for the same effect. They must prove themselves as legitimate and “safe” with their smooth bore before they can even buy a rifles shotgun. I think you can start the paperwork after safe ownership of a smooth bore for 5 years before you can get a rifled gun!
Too bad there’s not an American importer specializing in slugs from places like Russia. I bet it’d be a fairly profitable business.
You guys are great! Love all yalls videos!

I won't lie, when I saw the video title I was afraid that they had made that many sequels to a horrible movie.
