Tim Taylor I grew up in an era when you kept things a secret! Like fishing spots or surfing! I fished for GT’s for 30 years and since the UA-camS started posting videos like this I’ve seen a huge decrease in numbers of GT’s being caught here in Hawaii. It’s sad to see people doing what this guy is doing daily! I can’t say this is quality since he looks and fishies a bit inexperienced. Anyone who catches baby jacks and keeps them for bait is someone I’m not going to be seen with. C&R the jacks people! Especially the baby’s! Killing a baby jack is taking #50 jacks out of the sea through out that 1 baby jacks life that he could’ve had and Reproduced. Anyways keep fishing and C&R 🤙🏻
@@therustyulua2173 called the skipper inexperienced 😂😂 that's just good stuff man ..keep your secrets..im 40 and know guys lile you.yall a trip..i seen this video stuff coming back in 1998 told all of my friends to start recording there fishing trips so they could show the world when all this stuff blew up..of course none of them did including myself😂😂
Lol, right? I for one have two $87 12ft combos. Also, you can get a 12ft combo from Academy for 49.99 for those just starting.. or restarting for me. No disrespect to those who can afford or saved up for quality equipment.
Like the idea of running the teaser ahead of the popper and bucktail, nice job. Looking forward to seeing what you catch livelining those little dudes out there.
Keep doing what your doing. You must have been really excited to use your new 13 ft rod....can't blame you either a rod ...plus water = fun. So to all who complain about that big rod ....you would have tried out your new rod too. Hey Skipper just have fun with it . keep on keeping on
You are one of my primary teachers showing me how to surf fish. I have went a few times and I haven’t caught anything yet. I have to drive over two hours to reach the ocean so I don’t get a chance to go that often but this coming week I’m going to go again with my squiddy bits and more knowledge of how to read the beach and see what I can do I will keep you posted. You and your wife and family are great! Great channel! Thank you
Hi MR Skipper. I am fairly new and found fishing as my new hobby and obsession for the past 2 years I have learned so much from your videos and appreciate all your help. I just wanted to thank you for your informative and very helpful videos
If you tactical clip straight to the sp minnow and eliminate the stock split-ring, you might like the action better without having to re-tie on your leader..nice new rod! 👍
Love the infor, easy to understand even for a beginner I have to say the video editing has come a long way, more and more professional Suggestion on these type of tutorial video, how about a split screen , so you can see the lure and the action of the rod at the same time
Thanks so much for the comment on the editing, we spent some extra time with this one so we are happy that the difference is noticed :) and the split screen suggestion is great, we will remember that in the future!
Thanks for the tips mate, ive only just started using lures and plastics and never seem to catch anything.. I think the live actions would be the best for me to just slowly reel in and stop every now and then as the popping of plastics hasn't caught me much so far.. I always take a second rod and just chuck a bloodworm on a hook and end up catching a flathead or some small bream but would love to just be able to chuck a lure on and get a few fish! Thanks again and cheers from Australia!
I personally can’t fish with a rod over 9 foot off the rocks.. just doesn’t make sense to me. I do just fine and I don’t get tired. Throw the baby fish back! Especially the Jacks. You’re Popper technique needs a bit more of a pop and splash and a bubble trail. But it’s very hard to do that on a 13 foot surf rod. Get yourself a popping rod and I’m sure you’ll be catching more. 🤙🏻
For poppers you want to keep the rod under your arm and the the popper scoop the water that’s why the mouth is like that and for bomber lures or glider baits you want to move a little faster so you get what’s called a reaction bite before the fish realizes what it is
Great video, one suggestion, tge rod that you are using is to big for throwing popper, it can be difficult to work out the popper, I used that same popper with a 7ft rod medium heavy brand Tsunami and aslo cast very far and you can popped the popper the way you have to popped it. Keep it up with the great videos✌🏻
@@Native20559 popper is for popping, splash water to attract the fish, he just reeling in, I use popper a lot, and I know to get atcion on it you have to popped it, otherwise they would call it popper
How many sections does that 13 foot surf rod, break down to? When I fish on vacation, I will take smaller (inshore) tackle, to pack a wider variety. And some scented baits are always productive. I hope you caught some bonefish & permit?
Thicc Boi if he did I’d assume local tackle shop, but most vacations I go on that are near the water the hotels or resorts will sell 24hr fishing licenses.
Thicc Boi no in general, but yeah the nicer ones should have the 24hr , but check online first. Local tackle shops will have them 100%. Especially in a resort town like he stayed in
I ask cause ive read up online and i have some individuals claiming that no license is required for shore fishing. The townsfolk tell me mixed messages. Some say you do need ome and others that you dont. I havent been able to find a clear answer. At resorts, i usually just find deep sea fishing excursions for sale. Thanks though.

Dylan P ohhh, yeah I have been fishing saltwater my whole life, don’t get to do much freshwater, but the bite is good out there. Caught a legal halibut out in hermosa last week. So it’s not always an offshore one of thing
Thank you so much for watching Jose! I’m sure you could have helped us find some big barracudas this trip! If we head back to Cancun we will try to let you know!
I’ve also fished Riviera Maya shoreline. No great results, lots of needlefish and houndfish extremely dangerous. No tarpon, no snook. Some grunts and cudas. The shore is razor sharp and I don’t think we would be able to pull out a big fish. My father got broken off several times running 80# fluoro leader. It is a beautiful place to fish, but not sure it is the best when compared to Florida shores.
I totally understand how this setup is t for everyone, you have to pick your gear based on your budget and the type of fishing you do, but I personally just got this rod and was so excited to use it and share!

Your rod choice is way off. We chase big fish off rocks with 140g poppers etc and the biggest rod we have is 10foot. 13foot is absolutely ridiculous unless your bait fishing off a beach .
Gear that’s best for this application is more like that used for Jetty fishing, like what was already mentioned, 10-10 1/2’ rod. You could also probably get by with gear intended for mid size Swimbaits, 8-9’ rods.
Badasss setup bro! I was looking at that phenix rod for awhile the 11ft med/heavy one, glad too finally see a better view of the rod, now I’m definitely gonna buy one. The best part you can do is adjust the reel on the rod high or low

Will give a try next time!
Agreed! Remove the ring and clip directly to the sp.
13 foot rod is crazy long for poppers, especially on the rocks. 10 for should be considered max length, 7’9 -8’8 are ideal for poppers & stickbaits.
