How do you get unreachable items in the air?
For me Metroid Prime is one of my all-time faves, alongside the likes of Space Harrier, Herzog Zwei, Revenge of Shinobi, F Zero GX, Twilight Princess, Thunderforce 4.
@@AmericanToucan You hold down your Charge Beam, vacuums them up.
I still get a laugh out of the fact that Samus' spaceship apparently looks like a giant version of her own head. It's just funny.
You could say she's a bit big headed.
If you had a spaceship would you not want ot to look like your head?
mario and samus have more in common than i thought
This is my new Halo. I’m glad these developers know how to actually remake a game.
I mean it’s her *helmet*. Still funny, but if it was like her actual head just zipping through space that would be hysterical.

I like how Vinny was impressed and looking at the graphics, and walked right past the frigate map station.
He missed the Save Station inside the Frigate, too.

I’m one of those people that just cruises through fan-wikis reading entire pages on fictional monsters, so everything to do with the scanner is incredible to me. Beyond hyped to experience this game in the present for the first time!
The Space Pirate logs are great.
I absolutely love reading about lore and biology of creatures and such.
See Pikmin's Piklopedia on various characters' thoughts on creatures, varying from actual Scientific names and habits to how to best prepare them for consumption.
@@theonlybilge I love the log where they try and recreate morph ball technology and it only results in horribly mangled test subjects. It’s a good dark joke and it also goes to show how advanced the technology of the Chozo is.
Any game that has a sort of bestiary is a bonus to me. I get so caught up looking through details about specific creatures and their habits. It makes the game more lively. And Prime adds on stuff like the lore and research, which gives details on stuff like the machinery, environment, and history or different alien cultures. It's something that is never really done as well as the Prime games.
@@Super_Suchi
I like how absolutely terrified of Samus they are.
Ok so here's how I see this going:
This was Retro's "warmup" game. This was to get back in the groove of Metroid Prime, and to test their new engine. Now that that's done, I think we actually can expect to see Prime 4 sometime soon. They wont release 2 and 3 remasters before that, since they already gave us this as an appetizer. If Metroid Prime 4 sells well, then I think we can expect to see more remasters
Yes, now development on MP4 can begin.
Also the game probably _was_ sat-on even after being completed. Likely so they could release it closer to Prime 4's launch window.
I know many people that worked on Prime trilogy moves on. I wouldn’t be surprised if they used this as an excuse to study what made this a critically acclaimed game as they redid each area’s visuals.
And get a bit more money flowing for Prime 4 development. Remember, Retro has not shipped a game since 2014.
Its the same engine as DKTF, which is the same as the engine in MP3 MP2 and MP1. Retro iterated upon rhe engine each game adding new features and such
If anything, I'm sad it doesn't include a "Metroid Dread Suit" option like Prime did with Fusion suit back in the day.
They'll probably add it as free DLC or put it in prime 2
@@doondoon8077 lol u think they gonna make a prime 2 remastered? its a miracle we got this gloriius remaster, not just hd textures.
@@rickjames5998 One can hope...
@@rickjames5998 I mean if it was true that this was finished back in 2021, then who's to say they aren't almost done with MP2 and 3?
@Rick James with the greed modern Nintendo has nowadays, it's very possible. Like why is this $40 instead of $70 like the Skyward Sword remake? Might be because they're going to slowly release each prime game of the trilogy for $40 each leading up to Prime 4.
The remaster we didn't know we needed. Soundtrack is still as perfect as ever.
Apparently it's a more HQ soundtrack?
Oh, we knew!
"We didn't know we needed"? Dude people have been begging for this for *years*

She has a different ship in each Prime game, and in Prime 3 her ship actually does have missiles which can be used in a very limited capacity.

"Everything old is just what we're playing these days" is something I think is a good thing. While I do understand the desire for new content and new games, remakes allow newer generation gamers to experience the feelings we had with the original titles. That said, I feel like remasters like this game are rare, as a lot others are just cash grabs. I hope that somehow, more major studio devs look at this game and inspire themselves to put more love and passion into their work.
If nothing else, Resident Evil 2 Remake and this game are proof that some games are worth remaking/remastering. True reimaginings of fantastic old games are always welcome, in my mind. I would kill for a remake of Alpha Centauri in the Civilization 6 engine, for example.
I might not have played Metroid Prime, or the rest of the series, but... that menu music gives me chills. I'm so nostalgic for it because I played Smash Bros Brawl. Getting stuck in the lab, listening to that theme.
There’s a lot of great music in this game, for sure.
Once, I had brought both my GameCube and the original Metroid Prime over to my mom's house, and began to play it while my mom was in the living room. I distinctly remember her reaction to the title screen upon us both seeing it for the first time - "That looks like something out of that movie Alien!"
Same with brawl. That game made me really like this ost.
Have you played it yet?
Seeing all the space pirate corpses get spaced in the intro when Orpheon blew up was the most metal shit I've ever seen in Metroid since I was a kid
Everything explodes too, even into gooey guts.
@@macuser7048 Delicious
And then being able to explore the crashed Frigate via the Tallon Overworld is pretty metal, too. If I recall correctly, the Frigate leads to the Phazon Mines.
I never noticed that until watching this vod. Up until now I thought that was all just space debris.
Where the pirate corpses always flying into space during that scene? Even in the original? I didn't even notice.
I believe Retro did remaster it to get the new staff into the Metroid groove for Prime 4. IIRC only about half the people that worked on the originals are still there, which is still a damn good retention rate for the industry.
i love that. everybody wins
retro, iron galaxy, and like 8 other game studios/contract studios all worked on this remaster. full list:. retro, iron galaxy, zombot studio, atomhawk design, original force ltd, Shanghai mineloader digital tech, airship images, liquid development, cgbot, and gamesim inc.
Better than Halo for sure.
@@dan_loeb damn I wonder why they needed so many companies for this
@@paul-nj1igit's possible IF this was completed years ago as a test for retro studios prior to rebooting prime 4 developement, like some had stipulated, there were aditional art passes and polish done to make it fully ready to launch, and with retro likely deep in development of prime 4, that would be done by other studios. that's all just a guess, it's entirely possible also that this was a project done during prime 4's development phase, and the studios were needed to ensure both metroid prime 4 and the remaster wouldn't interfere with each other's development. I've also heard of the studios involved, iron galaxy did a TON of work for this. not specifically more than retro, but a significant amount was done by them.

Same Vinny, I think Metroid Prime 2 is CRIMINALLY underrated. It tried SO many new things. Obviously some of the, were more successful than others, but it was extremely ambitious, and I think the dark and light world concept was so fun. It added so many new layers of exploration by allowing you to get new places by going to the same location in the alternate world and then transporting back.
This uses DKTF's engine but updated for MP1 (some stuff is reworked and they wrote wrapper code for the old game's code to match the newer engine version). DKTF's engine is the same as MP1, 2, and 3. Each game Retro iterated upon the engine adding new features, fixing bugs, etc.
which is how it should be done, they could've easily just ported it to Unity or UE but having it on the same engine just shows how far the engine has evolved
Holy crap, knowing that all of their games have been on the same engine really hammers home for me just how dedicated Retro is to putting in a lot of love and care for their games. They're definitely my favorite game studio, maybe contested by Santa Monica
This remaster looks so good. If this is what we can expect for prime 4, I’m very excited to see where it’ll go.
holy crap this is SUooooper ugly 3 gens later and this is all we get... look at the ps3 vs ps5 last of us remake...wow and that is only2 gen too photo realistic

The switch might not be powerful, but that room with the burning parasite queen gave me shivers, or all the details on the pipes and devices on the ship. I underestimated how incredibly atmospheric a Prime game would look like with improved graphics.
Pretty good graphics mixed with incredible art direction
Yeah it's still Atmospheric, even more so with the improved graphics. I've been enjoying the Remaster. One of Favorite Metroid prime games of all time.
I thought it was going to be a port, but it's actually just fully remade, very awesome.
This game is legit more of a remake than BD/SP was.
Well, technically it's still a port. A _Remaster_ is basically only visual updates. In this case, yeah, they seem to have recreated each asset from scratch, but the underlying code is probably still very similar to the GCN original. A _Remake_ is when the game itself is completely made from scratch, with the original used as reference. Games like RE2 Remake, or FF7 Remake; for example.
These terms are often confused, or even used incorrectly. This Remaster could've easily claimed to be a _Remake,_ and most people wouldn't even know the difference, so I appreciate that they correctly categorized it as a Remaster.
It is still a remaster. One of the former Retro Studios developers (and many others) confirmed it.
@@Glory2Snowstar everytime I get reminded of bdsp I get angry. I haven't even finished it
@@TheMultiTasker3 resident evil 2 remake and ff7 remake are not remakes. they are different games
It's just nice to see Vinny happy
Y'know, this is one of those few times where I'd say the game just looks great and the "for the Switch" part honestly doesn't need to be stapled on. Like, yeah, it's obviously not showcasing the most modern bells and whistles and it's a little rough in a couple places, but it really just looks good, like the rose-tinted memory of how you remember Prime 1 looking vs what it actually looks like (though its original style still holds up really well). The new lighting engine is particularly great with all the emissive effects, actual dynamic lighting, new reflections, etc., it's got a lot of modern graphical flare, even if it's not cutting-edge quality
Also, the game does have anti-aliasing (all objects would have super rough edges if it didn't), but the shimmering on certain objects that plagues most games is temporal artifacting, which occurs largely on thin objects such as wires/fences or high-noise textures such as grid patterns. Long story short, it was never really an issue 10 or so years ago, but lots of rendering tech has changed since then and now the only way to really get rid of it is with Temporal Anti-Aliasing. TAA is usually quite demanding though, so it's not really an option for the Switch. Even on stronger hardware that can handle it, sometimes it's just not implemented properly and it results in vaseline visuals or ghosting. The alternative is upscaling/downscaling tech like DLSS or FSR which can smooth out temporal artifacts and general aliasing, but they have some quirks of their own at times
Meh, "for a handheld" is always a good qualifier. It IS weak compared to even last-gen consoles, natch.
"I am so happy it's not shit" lmao what a ringing indictment of most modern remakes in gaming that an actual effort being put in inspires disbelief and shock. Great to see one well done.
Seeing Arlo and Binny so happy has lifted my spirit.
1:33:06 - The reason this game handles 60fps so well is because it only ever loads two rooms at one time. So there isn't too much for the system to have to deal with at once.
Imagine waiting forever for a game and finding out it's released today. Awesome!
Man, were you hungry. Then again, I can't blame you. This remaster looks sooo good
As soon as I saw him start playing this, I caved and got it myself. So I can't even blame him.
I was shocked they had the downloadable version available after direct, was not expecting this!
And at just 40 bucks? I've seen much much worse games sold for 60.
Now THIS is a Remaster !
39:55 Metroid Prime truly was ahead of its time
I'm honestly surprised Nintendo isn't charging full price for this. It'd be on brand for them.
it's okay, they're charging $70 for tears of the kingdom. let us have $40 metroid prime remastered
40 bucks for a game that hady been out for twenty years with barely any upscaled resolutions and models is exactly in brand for Nintendo.
This should have been the entire trilogy for 40 pop.
And look at all the sangans crawling to it like abused housewives when their husband bring meds for their back problems.
@lasarousi the fuck is sangans? And I guess Vinny isn’t exempt from being one of them yeah?
@@derpstick5467 Vinny has voiced multiple times himself he's in an abusive relationship with Nintendo, how he's part of the problem and how the business side of Nintendo has always been horrible; but he'll swallow most things because it helps his channel making browny points by constantly complaining about it.
So yes. Vinny is a sangan but at least he is self aware.
@@lasarousi The textures, models, and lighting are all completely redone. Visually, this game was recreated from scratch.
The remaster is overseen by Retro Studios, but is a joint effort between several studios, including Iron Galaxy Studios (who did the Switch port of Skyrim.)
I still wish they would have at least mentioned 4, just to confirm the game hasn't been cancelled. But with a game that was already super well-known for its environments and atmosphere, the graphic touch-ups are doing wonders for Prime.
Well... Since this was seemingly developed by Retro that means Prime 4 is still coming.
Interesting note, there was talk about Tears of the Kingdom being $70, which turned out to be true
Amazon and Best Buy pre-orders that listed the game at $60 were delisted and relisted at the new price
The same was done to Prime 4's Amazon pre-order listing at about the same time
I'll be honest, i'd rather have this remaster.
god the audio design and atmosphere in this are SO good
I spent so many days reading the Metroid Prime (and Prime 2) manual. The artwork and stories were so fascinating to me. I loved making little doodles of the Metroid Prime, Meta Ridley, the Ing, and Dark Samus (MP2 version, not 3). The Metroid Prime Trilogy is probably in my top 5 favorite game series.
Do you remember how in the Prime 2 booklet it mentioned "Dread"?
Lock-on free aim does have it's uses. If you want to cheese some enemies, you can lock on, duck behind a corner, select the wave beam and angle regular shots around the corner. They'll zip around it and home towards your target. I found it useful for the turrets and some of the pirates in the upper mines.
Vinny did not hesitate.
Remember being a kid and my mother surprised me with the gamecube version under my pillow, waking up and playing it was awesome.
19:15 had this game but never played it myself so Vin explaining and reading everything is much appreciated. I hope he continues to take this game slowly and enjoy his time playing it. There is absolutely no need to rush through this experience.
The start of the stream with Vinny exploring and messing around with all the options is very valuable. Reminds me of old Totalbiscuit game coverage.
