This game really needs to be on switch! It's aged so well and would be perfect while we wait for metroid prime 4.

@BWGgy We've "heard" it's coming for ages now, but from everyone but Nintendo, so it counts for nothing at this stage unfortunately :/
There were some rumors they've pretty much finished work on it, but they're waiting to put it somewhere closer to the release of Prime 4.

I dont get it
Ridley's wings are still too small to support his weight, even if they are energy wings. The Smash Ultimate version (where he doesn't fly at all) is the most realistic version.
@@Guts_Brando there's no air in space, so flapping wings shouldn't work.
And yeah, he is flying in space.
In space, wings may not work, but solar sails, do. Retro was clever to design Ridley with sails for wings, because they would allow free movement in space. It isn't energy efficient, but in the Sci-Fi universe of Metroid, it isn't too unlikely that such a technique would be unviably inefficient.
This game looks so incredible for 2002. Seriously. This was the same year as Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4
It holds up remarkably well from a graphical/technical standpoint. It's no wonder that it won game of the year in 2002.
It’s still a perfect game too! Just started playing it again recently. It’s mind blowing that it was only a few relative years after Mario 64.

@@samuelviden7412 my assumption is that if we do have a collection for it on switch, we'd see it on the 20th anniversary of prime 1, so next year 2022.

God damn, that moment when he uses Infinite Speed to break through two rooms and grab the Wave Beam and an artifact in one frame... That is absolutely astonishing. Prime 1 is one of my favorite games from my childhood, and I remember trying a few of these speedrunning tricks before, most notably the Double Jump First one. But I didn't know that you could turn off the map notifications so it kept pestering me to go to Phendrana Drifts even though I'd never been to Chozo Ruins.
I enjoyed using some of these skips to sequence break. I almost always grab the Space Jump early and I enjoy having an ice beam as early as possible
And ergo, Shinespark was invented.
It's funny how you still have to collect all chozo artifacts because in the game lore the space pirates are like I wish there would be a way to avoid collecting these lol
Perhaps they didn't think this through when Samus came whooping their arses to the oblivious.
I wanted to see this and Echoes live, but the internet of my entire village broke that day :/

Too bad the bonus scene is based on scanning rather than time. If it was based on time, this run would have earned the ending where Samus tells you how to build a starship in real life.
I thought the bonus scene was based on item collection, you're talking about the scene where it shows the creation of Dark Samus, right?
@@FrahdChikun it's based off completetion percentage. That includes items and scanning
@@FrahdChikun Yup, it's a 100% item completion reward - does not need scans.
@@reeidly Metroid game file percentage is always just items. Scans have their own separate percentage gauge, that is only mentioned by the game when the player hits milestones such as 50 and 100%. No effect on the ending cutscenes, but rather just unlocking one of the four art galleries.

I played this game a few years ago for the first time and I was thinking back then that this probably isn't a good game for speedrunning (compared to for example super metroid) because there is just too much linearity and stuff that is slow and can't be avoided. Oh boy how wrong I was. Amazing run. Very interesting to see all the strats and skills.
Nintendo would be fools to not put Metroid Prime Trilogy in a remastered package on Switch before Prime 4 releases.
I hope Retro had another trilogy planned; that would be amazing.

I know this is super late, but this is my favorite game of all time. My first Metroid game, and I love seeing the tricks that people have figured out for it.
the puns, the awesome run and runner, the great commentary and crew. it doesn't get much better than this.

Always love seeing the metroid games broken this way. I just started playing the entire metroid series from the beginning timeline to the end. Love the prime series. Hands down best FPS game out there

My favorite part of some GDQ runs is the terrible puns. You could say they are the prime reason I watch them.

Haven’t played this in ages but isn’t the phazon suit black and red? How come Samus’ suit is orange at the end?
Fusion Suit skin was turned on as a donation incentive, so the final orange suit from Fusion replaces the look of the Phazon Suit.
There's just so many dad jokes going on with the donations lol
Why didn't Justin go for Ice Beam Before Flaaghra (IBBF)? Surely it isn't that risky for Justin in an any%?
Alpha Strategy Guides if you watch, a little later in the run when he does get Ice Beam he mentions that the route has changed and now it’s quicker to do it the way he does now~
As of a few years ago doing IBBF is slower in any%. The out-of-bounds movement is still done, but now you get Ice Beam during your second Chozo Ruins visit after getting Wave Beam. The main reason for delaying it is that you can skip the Chozo Ghost fight in Hall of the Elders during the final Chozo Ruins visit, which saves about 40 seconds over doing IBBF and being forced to fight the Chozo Ghost.
Doing IBBF, but actually before Flaahgra, is still very important for the 100% route however.

I wanna know how he got Light Show after getting Power Bomb early...cuz when I did that...I got a list of codes and my game crashed and my Gamecube shut off
He is playing on a wii instead and that helps prevent the crashes
I'm pretty sure he was playing on a Wii. From what I understand running on the Wii is standard for runs of Prime since it can deal with loads and glitches much better than the GC can. I've played the game casually for 5 years and only had my game crash when I played it on my friend's GC instead of my Wii
They have released I believe 3 different versions/updates for the game on GC not even counting the wii trilogy. From what I can tell they tried patching certain glitches /exploitslike preventing you from getting the plasma beam without the grapple, they might have also programmed some versions to soft-lock if you try to grab a power ball expansion before you are supposed to get it as intended

If you had Metroid fusion, you could use a link-cable to transfer the fusion suit to metroid prime
It's unlockable by linking a GBA with Fusion to the Wii/GameCube. The appearance change is purely cosmetic, however!
It's just an unlockable cosmetic in the game.
Bonus if you beat Prime and connected with a copy of Metroid Fusion via link cable.
So you need one of the original GameCube copies of the game, and okay it on the Wii to do this.

I believe on the Gamecube version, you're able to unlock it if you have Metroid Fusion and connect your GBA to the console. In the Trilogy version, you can unlock it by getting enough credits and buying it in the Extras menu.
Fusion Suit is an unlockable cosmetic in Prime 1 and it was turned on for this run as part of a donation incentive

how come the timer at the end says an hour and 16 minutes but the in game timer at the end said 52 minutes?
The in game time doesn't count cutscene and menu times
Ingame time doesnt take in account cutscenes, and other specific things, while the real timer does.
In-game time doesn't count during loading screens, cutscenes, or menus. Most speedruns these days use real time as a more accurate measurement of speed since runs with a pretty big variance in real time can end up with the same in-game time
RTA vs IGT timing.
That's the in-game timer. It pauses during cutscenes and when the game pauses, such as when you get those item acquired popups.
