I absolutely love first gen Tundra's & Sequoia's but boy did the engineers screw us on the starter, alternator, ball joints and fuel pump 😂 They should've added a access door in the cubby hole under the rear seat.
Agreed! Always wondered why they didn't. Those access cab storage areas under the rear seats could easily had access to the fuel filter, like other trucks and SUVs do.
What is your take on the Fuel pump from O'Reillys? I like that it is all inclusive meaning it has everything and I don't have to purchase individual components (i.e. pump, sending unit, filter bag, grommet) I have a 2000 Tundra, with 220k miles, that needs the fuel pump replaced (fuel pressure is low) and it seems as if my sending unit is not working also because my low fuel light is not illuminating. I only put approx. 5k miles a year on it and I don't figure on owning this vehicle for more then 5 more years. I see the comments that O'Reilly parts are lower end but considering my situation I am leaning towards using the same pump you did in this video... Comments/suggestions is appreciated?
The fuel pump was working off and on, It left him stranded at the gas station. after it sat it worked again which tells me it's not relays or fuses. Pretty typical of a failing fuel pump.
Great video. However I would definitely not buy the replacement parts from O'Reilly. Guaranteed that's going to be ultra-cheap, generic Chinese crap parts. Since this job is such a pain in the ass, you only want to have to do it once, not every 3 or 4 years. I'd buy Denzo brand parts, or OEM Toyota replacement parts from the Toyota dealership.
Bought this exact pump not the assembly and had to splice my harness to make the connector fit to aftermarket pump then started dying less than 3k miles later less than 22psi pressure from rail and 36.7 long term fuel trim
@@jccaban6996 Wow! Yep, there you go! That's what I'm talking about. O'Reilly parts (and all parts from stores like O'Reilly) are literally just for doing the type of repair work where you're doing it for someone else and you just want to be able to say that the job is done so that you can get paid and let them deal with the problems again in the near future. O'Reilly is ripping people off so that those people can go rip other people off, basically.
Question: if you unhooked the truck's bed and slid it back, why not just keep sliding it back until you fully reveal the top of the fuel tank? It seems like if you got the bed that far back and it's not connected to anything you can just keep moving it back?
@@H0v0H okay ima check them i had to floor it to pass someone on the highway today. once i did it went up to 4500 rpm’s then back down to 2500 then back up to 4500. it did that about 5 times with me keeping the pedal down on the floor
@@devinmeek3088 that sounds different from my problem. I found out something was wrong when I was on the highway and my car randomly stopped accelerating. Does your car start and stay running?
That really did help me about where the pump is. Now I know what to expect.
That's a bummer a lot of crap to change a gas filter. Good video helps a lot.
Easy tank to drop. No need to pull the bed.
Great quality video and explanation 👏

Check voltage in the harness. There is 1 wire that goes to the meter.
What do you mean?

The truck I did is still running go for it
Go OEM.
Did you put the gasket back that was on top of fuel tank?
yeah I saw that also, but then noticed it attached to the flange surface on the assembly as he lowered it. :-)
You ain’t no idiot, it happens to all of us
How Did you know the pump was bad? Like the original problem the client was having?

Yup don't cheap out, go OEM or risk redoing job again soon.

The bed wasn't in the way it was the cab and it wouldn't slide back any further without falling off
Mine won't stay on it starts but turns right off any idea what it can be
I'm having that same problem right now. Did you ever figure out what was happening?
mines doing that too. any luck fellas ?
@@devinmeek3088 mine ended up being a fuse for the fuel injectors.

Wayyy easier dropping the gas tank.
IDK I seen some videos of people dropping the tank but looked like a pain in the ass to pop the rivets and get them back on lol
